Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
- Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear. (For iOS 6 older, hold down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
- Relaunch the App and try again.
- Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
- Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
- Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
- Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
- Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
- Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

This problem has been plaguing me for weeks. All other solutions had no effect. Putting forward the date by two years then gave an error message in the app store that my username could not be verified by a secure server, please reset date and time. I then set the date and time back to auto and was then able to reconcet to updates as before. Thanks very much to whoever figured this out

Itunes upgraded my phone to the IOS5.1 yesterday in the middle of it, it said that there was an rror and that i had to restore the phone
which i did via itunes..it restored no prob to a screen with select language/select region etc then plug it into itunes to activate it and get error below
'iphone cannot be activated as there is no SIM in the phone' well there is as i was using it and txting 10 mins before this happened.
I have been reading up on ths and it seems like a known issue however i must stress that this phone has had no jailbreaking done to it..i dont know what that is or even how to do it...so im left with a phone that wont activate as it says there is no SIM in it..its very frustrating..i hope some of you guys light be able to help me out.
it is a 3gs iphone and it is with 3 network in ireland.
ive upgraded itunes to latest..ive restarted comp and unplugged all other usb devices etc..same result each time!
Can it be saved or is it done for?!! im 2 months out of 12 month Apple warranty too just to make things even better!!

You cannot.
By Design the iPhone can Only Sync to One iTunes Library at a time.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

I called Apple Support and they walked me through it. They told me to basically copy and paste my music to the external hard drive. (I think.) Or maybe it was they had me transfer a folder to the EHD. I don't exactally remember it was a few years back. But I tried to plug in the EHD before starting and...nothing. Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

The last message had some more stuff in between the "Hello" and "Regards" - I have no idea what happened to it. But nevermind...
I started up the Mini with the modem in one usb, and the speaker system in the other (M-Audio Sonica Theatre) - I have one of the Minis that have only 2 USB (and one FireWire) ports. The firewire has the external drive connected to it.
So far, as I"m typing this, I AM able to be online and use iTunes simultaneously. (both SaFari and iTunes respond slower than if I was using only one or the other, but they ARE actually working - in addition to having Adium running) - So I think what you suggested ( that is was something wonky was the USB hub) was a correct, yet assessment.
Would you have any reccommendations for USB hubs? The only thing that I have connected to the hub under normal circumstances that would be constantly "running" would be the RadioShark (even though the Radio soft isn't playing - the blue light on the RadioShark is always on) - and the speakers naturally. Everything else is of the occassional variety - iPod Sync Cable, Dual Layer External DVD Burner, and a "pass thu" to the USB ports on my Hard Drive Enclosure (which had been unplugged before the problem was noticed). The hub I current use is the
