Did you check the side switch (mute) above the volume buttons? If you see orange/red dot mean it's muted.
Is you volume turned up?
Do you have a Ringtone assigned in Settings > Sounds > Ringtone?

You mean HOME button, right? There is no "menu button" on any iPhone.
Since you already said that the ring/silent switch is set to ring, check the following settings:
Settings > Sounds > Ringer and Alerts > Volume slider set to loudest?
Settings > Sounds > Vibrate > ON?
Settings > Sounds > Ringtone > correct ringtone set?
If the above settings are correct and phone still doesn't ring and vibrate, you need to do the basic troubleshooting steps AS NEEDED (described in detail in the User Guide):
Restart phone
Reset phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
Restore phone in iTunes as new, without using a backup.
If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure that needs evaluation by Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your location.

IPhone 3G 2.0.1 Doesnt Ring on Text Message

Whenever I get a text message my iPhone doesnt ring, I've tried resetting the network settings and that fixes it temporarily, for about a day or 2. It is really disappointing I have to reset my phone everyday just for it to ring. I never had this problem with 2.0 or any of the 1.X versions on my first gen. I'm on EDGE (no 3G near me) with typically 3-5 bars

this is by far the most annoying bug with the iphone thus far, i cannot for the life of me figure out what causes it. I have deleted all apps that would appear to gather info thru text including AP news and myspace and it still does it, i have tried messing around with fetch and push settings to no avail, i have had it where one text will ring and the next one wont, sometimes it will go a day and sometimes the first text after a reset will go silent, dont believe apple if they tell you they are unaware because i have emailed them 3 times about it. Im getting at the end of my rope and im about to call up someone and complain in an actual voice.
I have owned countless phones and never have i had such a simple thing as a text ringer fail so wonderfully like this. I realize that there are bigger issues that need attention but at the same time this is an issue that shouldnt even happen, its like putting the cart before the horse, the phone does all this great stuff but we cant get a steady reliable ringer for texts

In other phones, you can hear the phone ringing and if it was connected to bluetooth, you could pick up the call from the bluetooth headset.
Here with iphone, if its connected to bluetooth headset, it only rings through the headset, which means that if you dont have the headset in the ear all the time, you cannot know that you have an incoming call or message.
Any ideas - solutions - comments please?

I'm having the same problem. I had a plantronics 975 (which I lost, sadly). When connected, the ringer would always be routed through the bluetooth and the iPhone's external speaker. When in silent mode, the iPhone would only vibrate, but I could still hear the ringer in the bluetooth.
I just bought a new Plantronics Voyager+. Now when it's connected, all sounds are routed to the earpiece - including the taps, etc. The iPhone's speaker doesn't ring at all, unless the bluetooth is disconnected or powered off. I'd really like to be able to hear both, like I was before. This is an iPhone 3G running iOS 4 (latest version, not sure what it is exactly). Haven't updated software/firmware in between bluetooths, just changed the earpiece.

Iphone not ringing, clock not holding correct time and no wi-fi

Man...I thought I had done something, but since the 2.1 update, my phone doesnt ring but for one or two random calls. The clock is also not holding time...it does if i restart the phone but within hours its back to hopping around, trying to get the right time. When it does stop doing that, the time is wrong.
On top of that, it cannot find any wi-fi connections.
Ive restored it to the previous back up and it doesnt do any of this.
Is anyone else having these problems since the update?

If those solutions don't work your iPhone 4s has probably developed a hardware problem. The permanent solution is to get it replaced.
You can search the internet for heating and freezing solutions that might work (at least for a while).

My iphone's ringer stopped after suddenly yesterday what to do..??

A week back my iphone ringer started buzzing when I played any audio or the ring and then yesterday suddenly the speaker stopped working completely. I shook my phone twice or thrice and it worked but then again it went off and my iphone became dumb now. It doesnt ring or play any sounds. What to do..??

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?

IPhone 4 ringer doesn't work

My iphone 4 ringer does not work! My phone does not ring when there is an incoming call. The mute button on the side is on ringer mode. All other types of audio works just fine like the alarm and music and game sounds. every thing works except the ringer. I've checked all of the ringer settings and it still doesnt work. Plus i think my vibrate broke around the same time as the ringer too so now im missing everything like calls, texts, and emails. Is this a hardware problem and is there a way i can get it fixed??

I had the same problem, so I asked Siri why it doesn't ring. She brought up search contents for the issue, and the first explanation solved the problem.
I had inadvertently shut off the "sounds" switch on the upper left side of my iphone (when off, the switch shows an orange-red color).
When I fliiped this switch to "on", and tested the phone w/ a phone call from my home phone, the ringer tone was heard loud & hear.
Easy fix, thankfully!

We do not help people with unlocked iPhones.
Make sure the switch on the side is set to ring, go to settings and make sure the sound is up and ring is on and all.

Thank you for your question. iTunes 11.1 is required to update to and sync with iOS 7. If you are still running iTunes 10.6.3, I recommend trying to obtain the update by going to the iTunes menu and selecting Check for Updates.

Do you have a SIM in the phone? A SIM is required to activate the phone.
If you do, ask your dad if the phone was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it.

IPhone 3GS rings after 5 seconds

This is very weird and it happens to my iPhone 3GS and my sister's 3GS. So when someone calls the iPhone, it doesn't ring immediately. It actually takes at least 5, sometimes more seconds to ring. This is a lot of time and I miss important calls. Both phones are FACTORY unlocked and work on T-Mobile but it's the same on AT&T so it's not provider's issue since other phones don't have this problem. I saw a lot of people have had similar problem. Does any one know if I can fix this? It's definitely not a defective phone it's just the way it is with the iphone and I don't have any idea why it takes 5-10 seconds before it starts ringing

Let me see again if I understand what you are saying. When do you start counting these seconds? Is it from the first time you hear a ring in your ear on the phone you are calling from? I've had a number of phones, and I know that calls need setup time, generally a little more than landline phones. I know in a later post you mention a Nokia only taking < 1 second. You also say it is not going to voicemail too quickly. I guess my real delemia here is, how are you missing calls if they are not going to voicemail. Do they just quit ringing because the person on the other end is hanging up? How long are they waiting, or in your case, how long did it ring before it went to voicemail before you hung up on your test call, I guess the question is how many rings. I'm not understanding why this delay in the beginning of ringing is troubling you if the calls is not being rerouted to voicemail, therefore impacting your ability to answer it.
The standard troubleshooing steps are power off/on the phone, if that doesn't help, then a reset, holding the power and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo, then releasing, ignoring the slide to power off screen. The next step is a restore, first from a backup, the next as a new phone or not from backup. The next step is outside of user troubleshooting and that is to send or take it to Apple, however since you purchased these units in England, that is where you would have to go for service, since the iPhones are serviced in the country they were sold in.

If your device has been jailbroken during the warranty, Apple will not service it.
