My iphone 5 is carrier locked to verizon

So I bought a iPhone 5 from my friend, and he told me that the verizon iphone 5 is unlocked so I could use it on any network.
However, when i checked with Apple, they told me that the verizon iphone 5 i bought is carrier locked to verizon.
So I called and asked them to unlock it from the network, and I was immediately refused multiple times.
I am really stuck on what I can do at this point... could anyone in the verizon community care to help me out?
It would save me tons of time and work. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried using a SIM from a different carrier? I know that Apple says it is carrier locked, but there are several instances on these forums where people have "claimed" to have been able to use a different carrier with a Verizon iPhone. I assume you have service with a different provider. Just get a SIM card from them and try it in your phone.
This would not be able to work the other way around, though. Verizon iPhones have both CDMA and GSM radios, where GSM carrier iPhones do not have the CDMA radio.
Hopefully this will work for you, however if it does not, you will have to bring it up with your "friend". It was his mistake. You could sell the phone on a site such as Swappa.com.

i have iphone 5 carrier locked to sprint so how can it be factory unlocked ?
what is a good way to unlock it as i am in UAE now

Don't waste your time, as I've already stated, Sprint WILL NOT autrhorize the unlocking of your sim slot.
You wasted your money. Return the phone for a refund, if you can, otherwise, sell it to someone that can use it on Sprint's network in the US.

  • Is the new iPhone 4 carrier locked?

Hi guys, i am from jamaica, i was planing to buy one when it comes out... want to know if the new iPhone 4 carrier locked?

You don't have the right to buy service where you want, you have the choice to buy service where it's available. Mobile phones are not a right, they are a privilege. Apple has not restricted your ability to choose... you can choose any other phone you like. Apple is not forcing you to buy their phone.
The entitlement attitude never ceases to amaze me.
Hmmm, with that attitude, I guess you're ok with collusion, monopolies, and anti-competitive practices, right? I mean, companies providing any goods or services should be able to work together and jack up prices, stifle competition, stamp out innovation, and reduce quality. After all, you're not forced to use/buy them!
It certainly makes sense to me to be able to buy any phone I want and use it on any network I want. You don't agree? In other countries, it's against the law to lock phones to providers.
How'd you feel if you had a Honda and could only buy Honda gas at a Honda gas station, and the same was true for all the other manufacturers?
There are times when the government has to step in and correct things like this. Feeling entitled is a good thing.

  • HT1937 my iphone has been locked with carrier locked

    sir,
i have updated my iphone with itunes, then in last my iphone has carrier locked.
so i want to unlock my iphone.

The only time an iOS update will carrier lock an iPhone is if that device was previously hacked to unlock.
Contact the carrier to whom it is locked, find out their requirements to unlock and if you qualify.

  • Iphone carrier locked

hi there? i wanna ask you guys? how can i find my iphone 4 carrier locked. my iphone model MC603B/A. thank

Have you always used this iPhone or did you purchase it second hand?
Because if you have always used it then the sim has been working in the iPhone is most likely of the carrier it is locked to. If you purchased it second hand then ask the original owner what carrier they used with the iPhone.
once you know who the carrier is then you need to contact them and ask if they can unlock the iPhone.

    Thanks For Helping Me !

Only the carrier the iPhone was sold as carrier locked with can officially unlock the iPhone, or send the unlock request to Apple on the owner's behaf with the unlocking done with iTunes.
You need to contact the carrier the iPhone is carrier locked with to see if they offer unlocking for the iPhone and if so, if you meet whatever requirements they have for unlocking.

  • Can i restore iphone without carrier sim?

i have an activated iphone and i want to know if i ever accidentally restore it to factory setting(pressing unlock/lock button + home button) can i restore it to my back up with out the need of a carrier sim? the iphone is carrier lock in other country and i have no carrier sim.
any response is deeply apreciated. thanks.

(pressing unlock/lock button + home button)
This is not restoring an iPhone to factory settings. This is called a reset, which is simllar to a computer restart.
You need the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated inserted in the iPhone in order to restore the iPhone with iTunes and the same when installing a firmware update. Or an activated SIM card with the carrier the iPhone is carrier locked with.

  • Bought an unlocked IPhone 5 at applestore( i believed) but it was locked to Verizon!!

    Hi
I bought an IPhone 5 16GB at Applestore fifth avenue i NYC. I told the seller that i needed an unlocked IPhone to use in Norway! When i came back in Norway couple a days ago and looked at the reciept i see that it is written on the reciept that it is locked to Verizon Wireless!! I have not opened the original package yet cause i do not know if i can use it or not in Norway!? Do i need to unlock the phone to use it? Can someone please help me?

Verizon iPhone 5's all come sim unlocked. That means you can put the sim from any carrier in it and use it. Data speed will depend on the frequency.

  • EBay Locked Verizon iPhone 4S - GSM locked SIM - Options?

I am looking to purchase an iPhone 4S on eBay, where the iPhone is a Verizon CDMA "locked" phone (which is OK as I plan to try it out on Tracfones newer BYOP program (Bring Your Own Phone). I have, or always do check, the iPhones "IMEI / MEID" number with Tracfone/Verizon to see that it is accepted and "clean".
One iPhone 4S I'm now interested in, the owner says the iPhone 4S is "locked" as far as the GSM goes (SIM card use, and the iPhone does not come with the SIM card). Therefore, I would be able to sign-up with Tracfone for the "CDMA" use (U.S. use), with no problems (as Tracfone uses the Verizon network) ….. However, on trips to Canada, Mexico, or overseas would I be unable to use the iPhone 4S, because the SIM "GSM" is still "locked"?
What is the best solution to possibly "unlocking" the SIM card "GSM" on the iPhone 4S?  Is this something I would be able to do once the phone is in my possession, or not possible? ... as I am beginning to research is probably the case.
I know the Federal Government has issued new rules on the "locking" and "unlocking" of phones, but without being the original owner, or Verizon account holder on the eBay phone, I am concerned that if I where to purchase such a "locked" GSM SIM card phone …. that I will be stuck with one that will only have use in the U.S., and not when I'm possibly traveling outside the U.S.
Any assistance or experience with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Buy an iPhone that's already carrier unlocked.
Don't waste your time doing otherwise.
Because only the original carrier can officially unlock the iPhone AND if you qualify.

  • What carriers avail 4 Verizon iPhone 4 now that contract is over?

My contract with Verizon is over and I am wondering if Sprint is the only other option.  What about carriers like H2O Wireless, etc?

Your phone is locked to Verizon & cannot be unlocked to use on any other network. You either use it on Verizon's network or you use it as an iPod touch. Those are your choices. You want service from Sprint? Then you need to purchase a Sprint iPhone. That's the way it is.

  • I have iphone 4s from japan which is a carrier locked (kddi ) it has ios 5.1.1 and now i want to upgrade to ios 6.Can i do the software update or it will cause any harm???

i have iphone 4s from japan which is a carrier locked (kddi ) it has ios 5.1.1 and now i want to upgrade to ios 6.Can i do the software update or it will cause any harm???

If you have a Japanese iPhone and are using it with any carrier other than Softbank or AU, then it was hacked, since as the others have said neither of those carriers unlock iPhones. Therefore if you upgrade iOS or restore your iPhone, it will lock back to the original carrier and be unusuable with your current cell provider.
We cannot help you with jailbroken iPhones. You'll have to look elsewhere for further assistance.
    Regards.

  • My iphone 4s is locked verizon usa

wath can i do to unlock my iphone 4s (lock verizon usa)? tanck you!

If you're not a Verizon customer, nothing.  Verizon will unlock the SIM slot of the iPhone 4S ONLY for current Verizon customers in good standing to use while travelling internationally.
If you are a Verizon customer, call them. If you are not, sell the phone to someone in the US who can use it and buy one you can actually use.

  • HT4993 Can i get factory unlock my iPhone 4S at sprint carrier locked

I want my iPhone factory unlock at Sprint Carrier locked, to use any gsm carrier sim worldwide.. Is there any way to officialy unlock it

    What part of:
"No Sprint model iPhone can be officially unlocked."
    Do you not understand?
There is nothing more I can add to this thread. If you want an officially unlocked iPhone, you have the wrong model. Sell it. Don't want to do that? You're on your own
    Good luck.
