It will show up, when connected directly by USB as a camera.

With that behavior you need to take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar for an out-of-warranty replacement. In the US that is $269 for the iPhone 5.

It's strange, on my work issued Windows laptop I have no issues syncing my iPhone to iTunes. But on my personal MacBook, iTunes does not pick up my iPhone when I connect via USB. Any advice on this please?

My MacBook Pro does not recognize my iPhone 4 when I connect with USB
As the subject line says, when I connect my iPhone 4 to my MacBook Pro via the USB cable, it normaaaally opens iTunes and iPhoto automatically and syncs and imports photos from the phone. But, for some reason, that doesn't happen anymore... Now when I plug in my iPhone with the USB...nothing happens.
The USB still works as a power charger. I even tried a different newer iPhone USB cable from my friend's phone...same problem. I tried both USB ports.
I update my iPhone, my Mac, my itunes, my iphoto...everything. I reset everything at least a couple times. Still no luck!
I did a Disk Utility verify check...it found no problems, the volume 'appears to be ok.'
The iPhone still syncs with iTunes over WiFi, but unfortunately I can't back up my photos from my iPhone wirelessly (I don't have iCloud set up). I want to do it via USB.
Anyone out there with any advice on how to get my computer to recognize my iPhone?
THANK YOU!!!Ive been struggling with this problem all day, I was trying to upload my pics and videos from my iPhone 4s (version IOS-7) and my computer didn't seem to recognize my phone. Well I finally gave up. My iphone was plugged into my computer via USB, and my iPhoto would not open up automatically like it always had before I updated to IOS-7.
As a last ditch effort I happened to open up my software updates in the apple icon. Lo and behold, once I agreed to update my iTunes app on my mac OSX 10.6.8, it opened my iTunes and a window popped open asking me to click on 'trust this computer'. I did that, and suddenly my iPhoto opened up and filled up with all of my iphone 4s (version IOS 7.1.1) pictures and videos! I could not find an answer anywhere online. I guess the trick is to manually open up iTunes before you attempt to upload pictures/videos from your iPhone into iPhoto. -
I have tried most thing like re-installing Itunes... ive called up Apple support but they have zero interest as its a Windows operating system, So I called windows support... 2 hours later still couldn't connect to my iphone. Just seems the device driver not working properly. Any help would be appreciated.... also bear in mind im no computer guru... so Janet and John explanation welcome !! ha

It sounds like your computer is becoming unresponsive whenever you plug in any USB device that has or takes photos, because iPhoto launches automatically and takes a while to open. You can change this preference in iPhoto itself to open either iPhoto, Image Capture, or no application at all when you connect a device:
iPhoto '11: Change what happens when you connect a camera to your computer
To choose the application that opens:
Make sure no cameras are connected to your computer.
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click General.
Choose an option from the “Connecting camera opens” pop-up menu.
The title of the article mentions iPhoto '11 but the same steps hold true for iPhoto 2013.

I upgraded my 2009 Mac to Mountain Lion yesterday but cannot add photos from my iPhoto library to contacts anymore. Drop down menu only shows "default, recent and camera" but I cannot get to iPhoto library. Help stated to choose Faces but I don't even get that far. How do I fix. Still works on iPad but not on Mac.
When you have iPhoto and Contacts open and try to drag a picture for iPhoto to the Contacts photo frame do you get a + symbol? if not you should! from there the the pop menu should appear and then you can select the picture and click on done

After I upgraded to Yoesmite, I have a problem with Iphoto and Iphone. Iphoto starts whenever my Iphone is connected with USB to my MacbookPro.
I often use USB connection so that my Iphone is charged while working outside my home. So it is quite annoying that Iphoto starts up everey time I connect mye Iphone with USB. I want to work and is not interested in Iphoto to clutter up my work and memory usage.
What can I do to prevent Iphoto from loading.Yes all you have to do is open iPhoto on Macbook & select iPhoto Menu Preferences>Connecting Camera opens: "select" NO Application.
Now if you want to send photos from your iPhone & you have iCloud-photos sync turned off, you'll have to open iPhotos & re-select iPhotos
in Preferences again. -
when trying to sync my iphone in itunes i keep getting the error message "itunes cannot sync apps because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined." can anyone explain what this means?
I received the same error message after I had recently updated iTunes to 10.5.1 and I had wirelessly updated 13 apps. I had to go into iTunes and select Apps, on the bottom right it said I needed to update 13 apps. I updated the apps via iTunes and then synced again without an issue.

That is probably a lot of stuff you do not want on your iPhone. So this can be handled a few different was. For you current situation, you can delete the apps directly on your iPhone by holding on the app until it starts to jiggle and then tap on the X of all the apps that you do not want. The second thing you can do is before you sync with iTunes, look at the app section on your iPhone to know what gets transfer to it and you can deselect items that you do not want. Lastly, if you download content on your iPad and it is a universal app, you can actually download it directly to your iPhone by looking at your past purchases and download it directly from the App Store. why does not ipad show on itunes? when i connected with my macbook using usb, just it is charging electricity.
i don't know why...Sometimes it can be something very simple and easy to fix. Before you get into any involved troubleshooting, quit iTunes, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and then try to sync again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If this doesn't work, then try the more involved stuff. -
Hi Chaps, When I connect a USB although it appears on my desktop it does not now appear in the finder(It used to) ,so I cannot export photos, any suggestions would be wonderful

I am using an apple TV to show a slide show which is sent via WiFi from a mini computer. The slide show repeats for a few hours and then stops and shows "no signal". What's going on… and how do I get the show to cycle indefinitely? (I have set the server to NEVER sleep)
