My Iphone 5 is not showing up in my devices on Itunes and there is no option to sync.

My Iphone 5 does not show up in devices when I plug into my computer. No devices show up. I was getting a small box that showed the Iphone and wanted me to open it to view the files, which basically shows how much space is left. I tried draggin a playlist into this and it has a circle with a line in it and doesn't work. I expected to plug in and have it sync but no sync message appears and the phone is not being recognized in itunes. I have already confirmed that I have apple mobile support.

I have tried restarting my pc and my iphone but this didn't help. My iphone is connecting to the computer and it is showing up in my pc but it will not show up in the itunes. Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software.
Select "Browse my computer for driver software."
Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

How come I can't sync by wi-fi? My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes unless it's connected by USB cable. "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" is checked in iTunes. (I can sync ONLY by USB cable--ironic because I won't upgrade to Mavericks until it allows USB local syncing.) What am I missing?

Is your iPhone plugged in to a charger? I believe that is a requirement for WiFi sync.

Maybe you're referring to the fact that iCloud is the sync mechanism for Contacts and Calendars now. If not, I don't understand your comment.

The ipod is not a backup device. The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. the exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old comptuer, to your new one.

My wife's iPhone 4s shows up in the side bar of iTunes and sincs fine, but does not show up in Manage devices on her account, where as her iPad does. it clearly shows you how to remove devices, but how can we add one?

"Manage Devices" appears under the broad heading "iTunes in the Cloud". I suggest you (or she) do this on her iPhone 4S:
Go to Settings > iCloud and make sure she is signed on there with her Apple ID.

Hi just wondering how to sync my ipod touch using itunes - when the ipod will not show up as a device. I am having trouble with the ipod as it is displaying the incorrect date, will not access my email etc. However when I go to sync it (thinking this would help) it does not even show upin itunes. For the other problem go to Settings>General>International and make sure the calendar is set to Gregorian. The reset time and date. That may resolve the mail problem
