My iphone 5 is only syncing music I have purchased on iTunes.

I have tried many things–resetting my phone, restoring it, checking and unchecking the "Sync Music" tab on iTunes..nothing has worked. For a minute, when I check my phone everything seems fine, but when I go to play my music it skips almost every song until it comes to a song I have bought on iTunes. All the other songs I have on my phone are from CDs or mp3s I have downloaded. Any solutions?? I am so tired of listening to the same 50 something songs over and over again.. I could really use the help as son as possible!!

I forgot to add that my phone displays the music like this:
so I figured it might be icloud, but I tried turning iCloud on and off and nothing seems to change.

  • I have an iPod Classic 5th Gen.  After 1 month I've lost all my music and playlist files.  The only files left are music I have purchased from iTunes.  How do I restore my music library to my iPod?

I have an iPod Classic 5th Generation.  I have not used it for about one month.  When I turned it on, I had lost all my music and playlist files.  The only thing left on the iPod was the music and audio books I have purchased from iTunes store.  I tried to delete everything on the ipod by sliding the hold button and then pressing the center button and the menu and I saw the apple logo on the screen but the iPod wouldn't reboot.  Any suggestions as to how I can delete everything on the iPod and then plug it into my computer to restore my music library?  I am using a Windows 7 operating system.

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • Can't sync music video I purchased on iTunes to my iPhone

Hi - hopefully someone can help since i have already dedicated far too much time to trying to work this out! I bought a video on iTunes which will not sync to my iPhone. i have recently updated the software and the setting is on 'sync all' so cant see why it isn't working. i have also tried to manually 'drag and drop' the file onto my iPhone and that wont work either. is there a problem with the licensing rules of this particular music video (it's elton john; Your Song (Red Piano Show) [Live In Las Vegas]) or do i just need to adjust a setting somewhere? To be honest I meant to download the song and not the video but am now determined to work out why it wont work! please help. thanks in advance

I have the same problem.  Going on for over a month.  Itunes keeps giving me emails to check info unrelated to this problem.  They gave me a credit and told me to re download.  I erased the purchased movies and bought them again.  Same problem.  This mac plays them fine, but I can't get them onto my ipad and iphone.  Other movies, no problem.  Just bought another movie at random.  Same problem.
This mac is only a few months old.  The ipad is an ipad2.  The iphone is the iphone 4.  All are up to date on their software.  I have restored both the iphone and the ipad.  same problem.  the Genius bar says it is an itunes problem, and they can't help.
My family has five Macbook pros (or whatever the new equivilent is), four iphone 4, two ipad 2 and one ipad1.  Never had this problem before.
    Hey, anyone from Apple listening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Replacement 40 Gig Ipod arrives, only syncs music just recently purchased

After buying a replacement battery option for my old 40 gig ipod - ipod gone for several weeks during this time - tried to sync with replacement ipod and semi-failed. Apparently, while it was gone, and I downloaded new itunes software and started purchasing songs on itunes for the first time, a new library was set up (by me apparently). Got the new ipod, did all the stuff I needed to do on the instruction sheet to reset to my windows xp software and it only downloaded the new songs in the new library. Explored around my files and found the multi-library issue, cut and pasted old songs from old library to new library but ipod still not willing to recognize them and download them.... any thoughts? This is on my home Dell PC, not at my office MacBook Pro.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

OK...now I'm really confused. Thank you for bearing with me.
    Here's my situation:
Old Dell 80GB laptop with about 41GB of music in two folders:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\iPod Music
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
So I can't consolidate to this hard drive.
I also own a 100GB external hard drive with copies of these folders:
    D:\My Music\iTunes
    D:\iPod Music
I want to be able to use my portable hard drive to store my music and run on my new 30GB Fujitsu. I want to keep all of my play counts/stars etc.
I have tried to swap out the .itl and .xml files on the new computer. This displays all of my music/playlists etc, but all music has a circled explanation point.
If I just use the Fujitsu to file/add folder and add the folders...I lose all of my stars/playlists.
The articles you gave me allow me to use my iPod as a transfer device, but I have too much music for this, right?

  • Music I have purchased from Itunes will no longer play on my laptop.  When I click on a song to play it, it says the file cannot be found.  Does anybody know what to do?

Purchased music from I-tunes will no longer play when I hit play.  The message "music file cannot be located" pops up and then takes me to some other file system.  Does anybody know what to do?  I have already tried to make sure that my Itunes player is default and that is not the problem.
    Help!

You get this message because  iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
Do any of these aply to you?

Hi!  I just bought a new laptop and have downloaded itunes and signed in.  When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs.  How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  Also, will itunes still recognize my ipod on my new computer when I plug it in?  I have a Dell with Windows 7 and an ipod nano, I think.  Why can't I just plug my ipod in and "sync" it?  Will that move my CD music into my library on itunes?  Thanks for any help!  Soooo confusing!!!

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • Just bought an apple tv and it wont stream music from my imac. when i click on the apple tv music icon it goes straight into the itunes store and so i can only access the music i have bought from itunes not the music i have stored in itunes on my computer

i just bought an apple tv and it wont stream music from my imac. when i click on the apple tv music icon it accesses the itunes store and brings up only that music i have purchased from apple instead of all the music i have stored in itunes on my imac.

The music icon will only access your purchased music. You need to go to the computer icon. It must be on and running iTunes, and home-sharing enabled in order for it to be accessible to Apple TV

  • How do I recover the music I have purchased after a Windows disaster?

How do I recover the music I have purchased after a Windows disaster? Windows on this computer stopped working correctly. I was told by HP support that the registry was corrupted and that I had to re-install Windows and programs from CDs that came with the computer. I did this and Windows started working correctly again. The only trouble is that all of the music I bought is gone. How do I recover the music I have purchased from iTunes after a Windows disaster and after re-installing Windows?
Please tell me that you know about all of my song purchases and that there is a way I can download all of these to this computer again without having to pay for them again.
I have learned my lesson about Windows. In the short run I plan to buy a backup drive that I can plug into this computer that I can restore from if and when something like this happens to Windows again. In the long run I plan to buy an Apple computer the next time I buy a computer.

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you may be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download however they are not under any obligation to do so. The policy on lost songs is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
You can email them from any of the links on this page: iTMS Customer Service

Might have luck with that here >  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer on the iTunes Store.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchases.

  • I authorized 2 laptops to my iPhone 5 but one can only sync music while the other can only sync apps!

I have an iPhone 5 and I have authorized 2 laptops to sync with it.
The problem is I can only sync apps I have downloaded from one laptop while music from the other laptop. I can't sync music and apps to my iPhone from the same laptop.
    How do I solve this?
Note: The first laptop I synced with is also shared with my wife's iPhone 4.
    Thanks in advance.

you can only really sync your phone with one device, well strictly not true but its the better practice.
    first point, be careful here.
second, plug your iPhone into the first machine and check the settings related to synchronising with 'that' machine.
then do the same with the second.
you will find that one is setup to sync apps and the other to sync music. I'd recommend that you go to the one that has your music stored on it, get it to download all of your apps and use this machine as your main machine from now on.
Using two seperate machines must be confusing and could lead to you suddenly loosing all of you data if you sync completely with one machine that does contain everything you want!

I would like to eventually delete the old profile so that I have more space on my hard drive.

i have one computer and 2 iphones i want to sync music on. but we want different music on the phones. is there a way i can make 2 libraries on 1 itunes?

You can create an alternate library: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
But it is easier to create one or more playlists and sync by selected playlists.  You can have some playlists for both phones and others for just one phone.
