My iPhone 5 keeps turning off for no reason

I have not dropped it, it will just be sitting on my desk and turn off, and then I have to hold the power button and home button to get it turn tun back on after a few minutes. It has not gotten wet, and I have not done anything to the iOS at all.  any ideas?

Connect device to itunes and hold power and home together
When it restarts, immediately release home key
Keep holding the power button for 3 secs
Without releasing power, hold home too for 10 secs
Then release power but dont release home
Keep holding it for about 12 secs(until you hear device detection sound)
Your phone is in DFU mode now
Click restore in itunes and see if it works
If backup is not possible, you will lose all data

  • Iphone keeps turning off for no reason

My iphone seems to shut off randomly.  It acts like the battery is low. I have to plug it in to get it to turn back on.

Sounds like a hardware problem with the battery or something else.
Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • HT4528 iPhone 5 turning off for no reason

My iPhone 5 has been turning off as if it died at random battery percentages.  Today it happened at 30% - it just shut down and said it needed a charger, when I plugged it in it was right at 30%.  This is screwing up tracking my runs with Nike+.  I know this is something that many people are having problems with.  Is there a solution or is the only answer just get a new phone so Apple can get more money?  Seriously considering switching to Android if this is not fixable.

Try a reset first. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button at the same time. Wait until the phone shuts off and release. It will restart.
If that doesn't work, you should restore it using iTunes.
Beyond that, it would probably be a hardware issue and you will need to have it serviced.

  • My iphone keeps turning off and powers itself again

my iphone keeps turning off and powers itself again

    Hello dantecruso,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
There are some troubleshooting steps I'd like you to follow in the article below in order to resolve this issue you're experiencing.
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • My ipod turns off for no reason and the battery is fully charged

I've had my ipod for a week and have had nothing but problems with it! It turns off for no reason while listening to music and the battery is fully charged. It even does it in the car while connected to the fm transmitter/charger. Please help! Also I bought a movie from itunes and I can hear the movie playing but I can't see it play. Thanks for your help!

I've had my ipod Photo for almost a year and just had the same thing happen for the first time - it just stopped, fully charged, while playing. And, it froze up in the sleep mode. I followed the instructions to reset it ( toggling the Hold Switch on and off) but nothing happened on the first 3 tries. I let it sit for about 15 minutes while searching in the Help & Apple Discussions forum and, just now tried toggling the Hold Switch again and noticed before doing so, that it had shut off. I toggled the Hold Switch to the locked position (Hold) then to the unlocked position and it came back on!
I'm sorry I can't tell you why it happens. If anyone knows, I'd like to know, too.

  • 8820 Turns off for no reason

My 8820 turns off for no reason. The only way I can get it to turn back on is by taking the battery out.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  What did you do?

I think a wipe with JL-cmder with a reloading the OS fresh would be in order...

ever since i updated my 4th generation ipod touch software to 6.0.1 it keeps shutting off for no reason. anyone know why it might do this?

If the reset does no work
    Try:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Maybe the replacement is defective.

  • Service turn off for no reason

My service was turned off for no reason.  When I call to find out why my service was out they first said nonpayment.  I am not behind on my payments.  The person on the phone check and sure enough I am current with my account.  I now have to wait two more days for some one to contact me about getting my service turned back on.  They have been off since Monday night night.  Really what kind of service is this.  Do I not count as a customer?  I wonder how many people this has happen to.  I really think its time to change providers.  I would like to go with the company that has the Hopper.
