My iPhone 5 needs sleep/wake button replaced

I know I can get it replaced, but my question is what do I need to bring to the apple store besides my iPhone?

ask to see if you are eligible for both the button replacement and the battery replacement (linked in the previous message above this one) which both are the two freebie recalls for iphone 5.

  • IPhone 5 sleep/wake button replacement programme.

Just wondering if anyone ha had difficulty getting their sleep/wake button replaced under the current programme.
Currently Apple are refusing to repace my button due to the fact their is cosmetic damage to my iPhone (the phone is in perfect working order otherwise apart from the sleep/wake button)
Apple claim the button can only be fixed once I've paid for the cosmetic damage to be repiared at over €210. I've said i'm fine to recieve my phone back with the same scratches at I sent it out with but they won't offer me the option as they may need to replace the entire phone, however this isn't my problem.
Apple only say the phone needs to be in working order to be eligbible which it is.

I've just been to the Apple Store Genius Bar with the same issue.  Although there's a small scratch on the corner they classed it as normal wear and tear and it's now been sent off to Holland (!?) for a repair.  The process was quite long, involving the iPhone being wiped and sent through diagnostic checks (to make sure that the phone didn't have any other problems and to verify ownership I assume) but they gave me a loan phone and it's now sent off - turnaround is about a week.
It does seem odd if minor cosmetic damage voids the replacement programme - the only thing I can think of is if it was a ding or dent then that's evidence of being dropped - but like the situation with over-sensitive moisture detectors a few years back it does feel like it's Apple trying to wriggle out of a warranty repair (or in this case a recall issue) by applying the letter of the law rather than common sense.
Just one further issue was that when I checked my serial number at home against the 'replacement programme' https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/ my phone came up as "not eligible" but when the genius bar entered it in their mac-book it said it was eligible!  Probably just me entering the serial number wrong so I don't know for sure.

  • Where can I get my iPhone 5 sleep/wake button replaced in Jordan?

    Hello,
I bought my iPhone 5 factory unlocked here in Jordan and a while ago I started having problems with the sleep/wake button so I went to Apple's website and found out about the replacement program and when I entered my iPhone's serial number I get this:
"The iPhone 5 serial number you entered is eligible for this program. Please follow the instructions below to have your sleep/wake button replaced."
BUT there is no Apple Retail Store anywhere in Jordan ?? So where can I get my iPhone fixed??

    Hi Dema.
There is an Authorised Apple Retailer in Jordan, it's just that it isn't that well known. I've just had my iPhone 5 replaced, free of charge, even though I'd bought it from Saudi Arabia. The store's called iSystem, it's at the end of Al Wakalat Street. Take a U-turn just before the 7th circle on your way from the 6th circle, then take your first right, then another right. There should be a complex on your right. Climb down the stairs and you're there. They have excellent service, although it took 3 weeks for them to get my phone replaced.
    Good luck.

  • How to go about Iphone5 sleep/wake button replacement program in Saudi Arabia

The sleep/wake button of my iphone5 doesn't work. Aware of the replacement program but literally no help from the service provider in KSA. It's been 4 months since my warranty expired. Any ideas anyone?

My iPhone 5 falls under both Battery and Sleep/Wake button replacement program. It was given to me as a gift by somebody and I found out that the country of purchase was US. Most of the time we can get Apple product in the market that originally purchased in the US and then brought and sold to different countries. When I contacted Apple Technical support for my replacement, I was told that I need to send my phone to US for this repair. I am currently in United Arab Emirates and don't know many people in US whom I can send the phone to take it to the Apple Store for repair. Since Apple has authorized service providers and Store in my country of residence, can you please provide the solution in this regard that is much more convenient than sending the phone to US?
Will await a simpler solution and reply.
    Rahil
You were given the solution already by Apple, why do you feel you need to ask again?
    There are no international warranty.
Your two options 1. send it to someone in the U.S.  2. fly to the U.S.  that is all.

  • I phone 5 sleep/wake button replacement program

The sleep/wake button on my iPhone 5 has become unresponsive. I checked apple web site and my iphone is eligible.  I'd like to know if it can be replaced if I go to an apple store in the istanbul / türkiye but it doesnt change. they said we are new store. if you bought iphone 5 in usa we cant change because no complete agrement between us and america you should go to europe store or usa store.
what sould ı do to change my iphone 5 in turkey

    Hi Alper Kenber,
I’m sorry to hear your iPhone is having an issue with the sleep/wake button. In order to get started on the repair you will need to use the form on this page -
iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program - Apple Support
    https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/
You should note what it states near the bottom -
Apple may restrict or limit repair to the original country of purchase.
So it is possible that you may have to return the iPhone to the United States in order to get it repaired.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

Hi  I just did it for mine today (in the UK) in the Genius Bar at our local Apple Store.
The process was quite long, involving the iPhone being wiped and sent through diagnostic checks (to make sure that the phone didn't have any other problems and to verify ownership I assume) but they gave me a loan phone and it's now sent off - turnaround is about a week.

I recently updated my ipad wifi only to the new ios 6.1.2 and initially I had the auto cover lock option which can be seen in the Generals tab, but then it stoped working!! Before the update, the auto cover lock worked fine. So after trying all the options, I then did a complete reset on the ipad and now its gone all together from the General tab!! I can no longer see the "auto cover lock" option.
The iPad cover lock is for when you use a cover with magnets in it to lock and unlock the iPad when you close the cover or open it. Try running a refrigerator magnet along the sides of the iPad and see if that trips the iPad Cover Lock back into the settings.
That is not the same thing as the iPad Auto Lock setting which allows you to set an allotted time before the iPad goes to sleep.
You can try resetting all settings to see if the Auto Lock feature retinrs to the iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again.

when i shaking my iphone 5s the sleep/wake button will make some noise, it is very loose. is it all right?

Have similar problem, but i dont think the noise coming form button, noise is coming again even when i keep the button under my finger and shake the phone.by the way the button is loose, that's right.

  • HT201401 How can i reset my iphone if the Sleep/Wake button does not work?

My camera shuts off every time that I try to take a picture. I would like to reset my IPhone in order to try and solve the problem. My Sleep/Wake button does not work.
How can I reset my IPhone without the Sleep/Wake Button working?
    Thanks for the help.

When pressing the sheep/wake button, the iPhone's screen is not turned off if on and does not turn on if off, and pressing and holding the sleep/wake or on/off button does not bring up slide to power off?
And you can't do a reset by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?
If so and there is no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby since more than likely there is a hardware problem.

  • CDMA iPhone 4's sleep/wake button isn't working

Ok so this afternoon I was doing the usual and using my awesome iPhone 4. After locking the screen my pressing the sleep/wake button, the button became jammed. It won't go up or down, or click to preform the sleep/wake functions. Will Apple cover this? It is still under the 1 year limited warranty. The back glass is also cracked and spider webbed.

I had exactly the same problem. I took it to the Apple Store and they peered up inside and said I had "obviously used some corrosive liquid" on it, so the problem was not covered by the warranty. I have no idea what "corrosive liquid" it could have been--I am very careful with my iPod, keeping it in a case, etc. The only thing I could think of was sweat from the gym, but they said that wouldn't do it. So they basically gave me a replacement one but charged me $150! I have been extra careful with the replacement one, but after 2 weeks, it is having exactly the same problem.
I just did a hard reset (held down the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simultaneously until the Apple Logo appears. Now it kinda works sometimes. Sometimes I have to push the button multiple times before it goes to sleep.
This is extremely frustrating as I am very careful in handling it. Makes me think there is some other problem with it, or these things are just so fragile they can't take the wear and tear of normal use.

  • IPhone 5 wiggly sleep/wake button

if i shake iPhone i hear the button wiggling and i can feel it moving also.

My iPhone 5 arrived yesterday.  Charged it for a couple of hours.  After that I tried to
power down by pressing the sleep /wake button.  Nothing happened.  Hmmm.....  I thought it was me.  So I pressed the sleep button on the iPhone 4.  Works ok.  Again I pressed the sleep button on the iPhone 5.  Absolutely nothing happened!   I was ******.   Called the Apple store. Told them what happened.  They would not exchange it.  So I went to the AT&T store where I pre-ordered the iPhone 5.   Spoke with the manager.  He said I was not the only one with the sleep/wake button problem.   According to him there's  a lot of upset customers with the same issue.  He said in the mean time I'll just have to use broken iPhone 5 til they get shipments in.  In a few weeks.  He will notify me when they arrive at the store....... We'll see.  Very upset.

  • HT1430 I would like to reset the iphone but the sleep wake button has stopped working

how to reset the phone without erasing my data when the sleep wake button has stopped working.  the phone is frozen

"Why didn't iCare staff which is Apple's do something..."
They did.  They told you what you should do to get the problem resolve.  Too, "iCare" is an AASP and provides service for Apple's products, but the staff is not employed by Apple.  It's not an "Apple Store".

  • IPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program is ....!!!

    Dear Sir / Madam
I am an owner of Iphone 5 whose serial number is F2******TTP from Turkey. I have been facing with an issue of my phone's sleep and wake button. You published a switch program about phones facing this issue. I contacted your support center in Turkey about this issue. On my first call I was directed to Zorlu Center Apple Store in Turkey. When I contacted with Apple Store I was told that my iphone would be changed as part of your switch program but I had to go to Zorlu Center Apple Store. As I live in Northwest of Turkey 1500 km away from Istanbul I made arrangements and spend a lot money for transportation and accomodation. A few days before my appointment day I called Zorlu Center Apple Store again to ensure that my Iphone would be changed. But I was told that it would be useless to go to my appointment because they wouldn't fix my issue me in Zorlu Center Apple Store. I was really mad. When I asked them how could I fix my issue they said me that any Apple Store in Europe could support me in fixing my issue. Then I planned a trip to Europe. Firstly I went to Apple Store - I Gigli in Florence and then Amsterdam Apple Store. They demanded 250 Euros for changing my Iphone with a new one though you have a switch program. I tried to explain this situation and told all the phone calls I have made with Aplle Support Center but with a very rude manner they again told me they couldn't repair my phone and I had to pay for a possible change.
I have been suffered for months now. I haven't been supported by your Support Center and several Apple Stores. I was misdirected  by your Call Center they told me that I would fix my issue in any Apple Store in Europe and went to several Apple Stores in Europe for nothing.
I was really disappointed by your company. I was misinformed and and was damaged financially and morally by your company. I called your Support Center Turkey and recorded complainments several times but nobody has called me or informed me about my complaints. Now I demand you to stand behind your Iphone, resolve my problem and recover my financial and moral damage. Otherwise I have to go to court and mail all the media offices about this situation and make everybody be informed about your company's unfair and rude manner. It is really upsetting for such a big company to disappoint its customers. I hope you you will give me feedback as soon as possible and find a solution about my problem.
    Yours Sincerely,

  • IPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program

Hi, I am from the UAE and I'm new here.
Was hoping to get some advice on how to proceed with the lock button replacement program.
I got the phone as a gift, so I don't know where it was bought from. (There are no Apple stores in the UAE)
My concern is whether this replacement program is still valid if your warranty is expired.
I put in my serial key on the website and it said that my phone was eligible for the replacement.
However, when I called Apple in the UAE they redirected me to one of their trusted agents. When I called the agent they took down my serial number to check if my device was eligible for the replacement program. After having checked that, I was told that due to my warranty having expired they couldn't do the repair for me. The agent said that they could offer me a replacement where I would have to pay AED 1,600 (USD 435.61) and they would provide me with a new iPhone 5 with the same specifications as my current one.
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Yes.
    From Apple:
"The program covers iPhone 5 models for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit."
