My iphone 5 will not charge, and will not power on.

My iphone 5 is 14 months old and it will not charge, and it has died. My charger cable works as it charges my ipad, and I also used a second charger for good measure. Please help.
When I try to power on, it goes to the battery sign with the lightning bolt underneath.
It has been on the charger for a while, and still no luck.
I tried a hard reset to no avail, and I connected it to my computer, but it is dead and itunes won't recognize it if it is dead.

Inspect the charging port area for dirt/debris/fluff build-up that may be preventing a good connection and use a wooden toothpick, soft clean toothbrush, or a can of compressed air to clean it. Also look for bent or broken pins. Try another cable and/or charger block (be sure to always use a genuine Apple certified brand) in a known good outlet. If you're using a USB port, try another port. If you're using a hub, try a direct connection. If you're using a USB port in the front of a desktop computer, try one in the back. If all these fail, make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar to have the device evaluated.

  • Optimizing iPhone battery life: Between charges and before replacement

FYI. An excellent iPhone battery care article by iPhoneAtlas.com:
Optimizing iPhone battery life: Between charges and before replacement
    http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2007/07/09/optimizing-iphone-battery-life-between-cha rges-and-before-replacement/

OK, I agree that is a completely false statement. The rest of the article is pretty good.
If you assume a linear decrease in battery charge for each full cycle (which it really isn't, but much easier to model in a spreadsheet). Then 80% of original charge after 400 full cycles is approximately 0.8% loss in battery charge per full charge cycle (again this is a simplification, stay with me). This means that after 400 cycles, you are at approximately 80% of your original total charge level. As stated by Apple.
So, extrapolating that out to EOL (end of life) which Apple assumes to be 50% battery charge, it would take approximately 1,000 full charge cycles for your battery to be EOL (according to Apple). It would actually be slightly less than that since it won't be a linear function.
For me, that's 2 to 4 years of use depending on whether or not I continue using the iPhone as much as I have this first full week.

The iPhone has a hardware problem - with the battery or something else.
The iPhone includes a one year warranty. If purchased new in October of 2012, it remains under warranty. Call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

  • My iPhone 5s restarts while charging and none of my downloaded apps will open

MMy iPhone 5s restarts every time I plug it in to charge. And none of my downloaded apps will open except for a few. I've restartedmy phone, deleted the apps then redownloaded them, ive reset my network settings, and even reset all of my settings in general. But nothing will work

    Hello d.ashley.,
The troubleshooting steps detailed below can help stabilize your iPhone.
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

  • IPhone 4 unable to charge and USB not recognized?

Hi, I've just got my iPhone replaced because the old screen is broken.
    In this new iPhone 4.
The camera rear, when I take photos, there is a slightly transparent black spot. It annoys me, but I chose to ignore.
It was fine all morning, till BAM!
This **** thing came up when I wants to charge my iPhone on my laptop.
My laptop can't recognize the iPhone. Earlier was fine (when I'm copying photos out), then later when I replug it happens.
"USB device not recognized. The LAST USB device you connected to this computer MALFUNCTIONED, and Windows does not recognize it"
This is my first time getting this warning.
Is there any way to reset the USB port, and redetect the iPhone USB?
Also, my iPhone can't be charge! I've tried different cables, different power source. None work.
I assume my cable is not broken because if it is, the my laptop wouldn't detect the USB and that annoying warning won't come up.
    I've have TRIED:
Soft rest and hard reset on iPhone.
Restart/Shutdown laptop. Also, deleted Upper Filter from Registry. Removed laptop charger. Unplug all USB.
    Reset all setting on iPhone.
Clean my iPhone charging port and charger adapter USB.
My iPhone left 10% of battery, and it's 3AM here. There's obviously no apple store open. There also no Genius Bar in my country.
And I've observe my battery gone down to 9% and back up to 10%. While I'm typing this, the battery goes up to 11%.
It's so so so slow. There is no "Charging" sign. Normally, the battery icon on the top right will have a plug sign thingy.
Now it doesn't show anything except for a red battery but percentage is going up so freaking SLOW!
*Also, how to update IOS to 6.1.4 (current 6.1.3)? I don't want IOS7.
    Using:
    Windows 8 64-bit
    Fujitsu laptop
    iPhone 4 IOS6
    iTunes 10.7
Help me, my iPhone is dying. Theres no prob for my old iPhone, geez.

    Just an update:
I spent many hours last night working on my phone, and after leaving it on my docking station for a few hours, it had enough battery to turn on, though it was only a tiny bit of battery. I quickly plugged it into my PC and was able to load the backup from iTunes from about a month ago, so that it was now my phone again. However, straight away the battery died again, and I left it on the docking station all night, but it never charged. Now it no longer shows the battery sign at all, just a black screen.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, as i was checking out the apple website, and as my phone no longer has warrantly it's going to cost me £125 for a service which ain't cheap!

  • Iphone 4s doesn't charge and charging icon never change and i cannot open my phone now?anyone can help me?

anyone can help me...my iphone 4s is not charging and the charging icon remain 1%...and there is a time it will come on and i will try to reset the settings but the problem it doesn't turn on once it dead. And i went to the apple store today and they said the charger connector or the charging port has been bent..they want me to pay 199 plus tax for another phone.Since i have this iphone 4s for 1 year and 2 months so it is very frustrating for me...So i decided not to buy another iphone..If i want to get another one not with apple anymore. So,when i got home,my wife try to make a research on the computer try to troubleshoot on our own because i cannot believe what the Apple manager told us "THE CHARGING COONECTOR HAS BEEN DAMAGED MAYBE BECAUSE i FORCED TO CHARGE EVEN IT DOESN'T FIT" it is a big insult for me because this is not my first phone..So my wife word hard for it and she keep on pressing the power button every 15 minutes..(10-15 seconds and it come on).And again i try to reset again its dead..I cannot turn back on....any advise?looks like apple wants only money and they are not trying there best to help there customer problem.

  • IPhone 4S failure to charge and open phone-related apps.

So, I just changed from the iPhone 4 to the 4S and i cannot get it to charge past 8%. It also seems to not be declining below 8% either, but that may just be because I'm not running out the battery very quickly. I got the phone second hand from my mom who had it for about a year (I think) and before I switched over to this new phone, it charged perfectly fine, and I was able to get it all squared away with my apps, contacts ect it just did not function as a phone. Once i go to get it activated as my mobile I found that it had died, so I recharged it and it is now refusing to charge past 8% There also appears to be some iOS difficulties, such as it will not load the phone application or the one for texting, and refusing to connect to wi-fi, not just the wi-fi in my house mind, but ANY wi-fi (I tried at several public hotspots as well as my work just to be sure that it wasn't an error with my house's connection). It simply shuts them down without opening. I would rather not have to go back to my old phone with the cracked screen, but at this point I may very well do just that due to how frustrating this is becoming. I've never had an issue with my iPhones before and I would like to get this problem squared away quickly as I cannot afford to be without my mobile.

My question is if the port is damaged,How come the charge sign come ff when i charge...but if there is a chance that the apple logo come on the icon of the battery never change still 1% but it will last for a day..doing phone calls and everything? Please help!

  • I dropped my IPhone 6 plus in water and now the power button does not want to work

So i had the Iphone 6 Plus in my hand when it feel into a big puddle and it was in there for more than a minute so i come home and i find out that the power button (on the right hand side button) doesn't want to work like its on and im on the home page and then i press the button and nope nothing and the volume button somewhat works and sometimes the power button works so i turn it off and i put it in the rice next thing you know the phone turns on again without me touching it or anything. So I need help and the phone is new not even a month i have had it and i don't want to spend money on it. Please help! This phone is my life and i will do anything(that does not wast money) to save my phone.

You can try leaving it in that bag of rice for 5-7 days to see if it will dry, however if it will not stay turned off, I would say that something is shorted out. You will need to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service provider and be ready to pay for an out of warranty replacement. If you purchased Apple Care Plus there is only a deductible, but without it, you will have to pay the price of an out of warranty phone. User damage is not covered under warranty.

  • Hi i would like to know  is it posible the fake chines charger to damage my iphone i lost my charger and i used a fake chines made charger  sinc i conected to that charger  my iphone heated and never work again like  know is that the charger cause damage

hi please hellp i lost my charger  and i used a fake chines charger sinc i conected my iphone to that chines made charger my iphone now does not charge or switch on is that the case of that charger cause all that damage it heated up  a lot please help thank you

went through a couple iphones in two weeks (no joke) had to keep returning to the apple store which is an hour and a half away from my hometown (parents weren't too happy with the amount they spent on petrol!!) first of all i got a replacement iphone because the one i had wasnt playing music, just before my iphone started playing up i had purchased a fake charger online after losing my genuine one, the fake one looked genuine enough. So i proceeded to use the fake charger once i had my replacement to find my replacement iphone wasnt holding charge and turning off itself etc. (after being charged using the fake charger) i returned the replacement iphone and the apple support man at genius desk suggested it could be the charger (i didnt think this could be possible, a charger causing so much trouble) so i blamed apple. got another replacement and i decided to purchase a genuine apple charger (just put of curiousity) iphone is now working fine, keeping battery had no problems. therefore i believe fake chargers may be appealing to buy (as the cost is cheap) but purchasing a genuine one is a small price to pay considering all the trouble i went through!

  • IPhone 6 unexpectedly shut down and doesn't power back on

So today, Febraury 10th, 2015, my IPhone 6 unexpectedly shut down on me and it will not power back up. I was charging my phone in the car and when I was about to get out, I disconnected the charger from my phone  (which was already on and on 56%) . A few seconds later, it just shut off. I tried holding the power button, nothing happened. I connected back to the charger, nothing happened. I took it back off the charger and waited 20 min and tried to turn it back on , nothing happened. I switched Lightning cords, and still nothing. I have ran out of ideas and am beginning to get frustrated. So two questions: Is this becoming a common problem? and what can I do to fix this?

    Hello acameron10,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPhone shut down on its own and now will not respond or turn on. I know you have already completed some great isolation and troubleshooting steps as well. To continue troubleshooting, I would suggest working through the steps in the attached article, including reseting your device and restoring using recovery mode. Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps and if the issue continues.

  • My iPhone doesn't always charge and the back is cracked and is falling apart. Can I get it replaced or trade it in for a better one?

I dropped my iPhone and the back cracked. immediately after that, it wouldnt charge fuly or at all sometimes, i'm having the same problem now, and the back of my phone is falling off in pieces. I would like ti get it replaced or trade it in for a new, better one. is that possible?

Take it to Apple, with some money, and ask if it is eligible for an out of warranty replacement.  They will not trade a new 4S for a busted 4. If you want a 4S you'll have to buy one.
