My iphone 5 wont turn on. all it does is reset over and over when plugged in

about a month ago Apple sent me my refurbished iPhone 5 when I got mine wet. This iPhone had a charging problem from the beginning, the cord they sent me wouldn't charge it (but I already had a different one so I wasn't worried). I used mine and it was fine but it would say like 89% charged , when I knew it was about to die or 1% charge after I had charged it for like 30 minutes. This didn't do anything but aggravate me when It died at 30% , so I wasn't worried again.. but now , whenever I plug it in , all it does is reset. The apple symbol will appear for a few seconds and then the phone will go back , and two minutes later - the same thing. when I unplug it , it just goes black. It has never been dropped or gotten wet , its always had a protective case on too.. I got online and saw that some people could go on iTunes and restore it & fix the problem.. but iTunes doesn't recognize my serial number and keeps saying "unknown error" when I try to restore and update it. I don't know what to do ): please help!

Yes, if you know you have a good Backup and your computer has a current iTunes then at this point you might as well Restore it to Factory Settings and see if it works well. You can take your iPhone 5 and hold the Home button while plugging in the lightning cable to it. This should result in the phone coming up with a graphic on the screen that indicates you should connect it to your Computer with iTunes and Restore. You can click on Restore and when it asks say Restore as a New Phone (Not from Backup). After it is full Restored and you go through the normal very few setup questions / answers you can go back and Restore from your Backup.

We can't know if there's a "fixture" because we can't examine your phone. But Apple can. Make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

I found a helpful article that will help troubleshoot the power issue you are having with your iPhone. I realize that you may have already attempted most of these steps, so lets review the last three:

Steps 5-7
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Try plugging it into your computer and holding the home button and power button until it starts in restore mode. Then restore the phone if it works.
If this doesn't work and it doesn't go into restore mode try putting it in DFU mode.

I usually sleep with my phone on charge through the night and I haven't had any problem since, I left my iphone 5 charging last night and in the morning it stated 100% charged so I decided to turn the power off normally (Hold the hold button till it says slide to turn power off) I turned it off and suddenly my iphone went straight to low battery. Although I have been having weird battery percentage changes for example it would stay on 1 % for an hour or so or drain really quickly.
I have restored it as i thought was the thing to do all it's doing it restoring and still stating low battery and I have charged it for hours +. I can't hard reset it nor restore it NEED HELP PLEASE.

Iphone wont turn on after iOS8 update

I was updating my Iphone with iOS8 update through iTunes on my laptop it went all through until the end i unplugged my phone as it wasn't doing anything then it come up with iTunes logo and charger logo and now it wont turn on at all, I've tried holding the top button and home button and charging it, nothing is working! help me!

I eventually got it to work by constantly, over and over again, plugging the iPhone into the mac with my finger on the home butting until one time it recognised it then I went through the factory reset setting for it to just drop off the iTunes pane and jam on me again. I did the same thing (I know the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result!) again until it recognised it again and thankfully this time it went through all the factory reset process and updated, losing unsaved videos of my sons birthday party the day before in the process ( I thought they got saved to the cloud too, but apparently they don't!) so thats how I fixed it.........that was last Thursday......Today I thought it would be safe enough to update my iPad and guess what? I have been sat here now for an hour, same thing, the update came down, the iPad was prepared for update, the screen went on to the logo screen the bar got to 100, the device disappeared from the iTunes pane and the iPad is stuck in the restart screen!!!! Its been that way for an hour now!!! I am not a happy bunny!!! now I will swiftly be going over to the iPad forums to see if there is any info there about it or should I just try what I did with the phone???? Either way this *****!

My phone was downloading ios 7and it shut off and told me to plug it into itunes. When i did it told me to restore it so i did and now it wont go all the way through with the restore . it says it cant, and my phone keeps turning on by itsself. it will only turn on the the apple logo then the whole screen turns a color, its normally red green black or blue with the apple logo still on it. then it turns off and turns back on and does the exact same thing over and over. It says the phone is on DFU mode. Please help

it seems you don't really want to solve your problem.
you should tell us when it was working last time, what were you doing on it/with it. For now, you just have a problem and nobody to solve it.

It wont turn on (shows apple logo, then freezes and after that it restarts the same thing over and over again..) and i cannot restore or update it, because computer wont find it because its not turned on! i had that once, it took me ages to figure out what was wrong but i finally did.
i held down the power button and the home button and release them both as soon as the screen goes black otherwise it will turn on again.
Plug it into the computer. If it connects, great! If it doesnt, hold down the home button until you hear the usb conect noise into the computer, which usually takes about 10seconds.
Then update itunes to the latest version, then the software. Then create backup by right clicking your iPhone's name on the side.
Then restore. If it comes up with an error then do the same thing again but restore it on another computer.

I have some troubleshooting steps for you to try regarding this issue:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.

IPHONE WONT TURN ON TODAY????

All of a sudden today out of the blue my Iphone wont turn on?

First try a reset:
Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you(hopefully) see the Apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off, should it appear.
If that doesn't work:
See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
