My iPhone 5s charger has turned black on one side. On this side i can't charge it, but when i flip it and put it in it charges fine. I want to know if it is safe to charge my phone, or will it end up killing the battery?
this is the side of the charger that wont charge. the black wont rub off
I wouldn't use it. Take/send it to Apple and see what they make of it. It will be covered by warranty if it is faulty (which looks likely).

Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)

If this iPhone has had the screen replaced previously, possibly LCD Display connector has simply come loose from the Logic Board. Possibly the LCD Display is faulty and the front screen assembly needs to be replaced. If you have Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple. This is handled by Apple with Replacement iPhone 4S.

Try a Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, usually about 10 seconds of holding both buttons.
Also you can try putting iPhone on Wall Charger and Reset again.
If still nothing Restore.
If still problem it will be covered by Warranty. -
i walked out of school and i was trying to get on my phone but it would not cut on.It was just a black screen.So when i got home and put it on the charger it keep vibrating but still a black screen. Did you ever figure out how to turn your phone on? Mine died today around noon for no reason. I'm so mad at it! I can't get it turned on, and I KNOW the battery is charged. Suggestions? I'm going to the genius bar (another trip completely out of my way) tomorrow morning. Suggestions?? Oh and please don't tell me to hold the "home" button and the "power" button together because I've been doing that all day. It doesn't work.

Background on google has turned black?
The background on google/safari on my iphone 4 has turned black (the URL bar at the top of the screen and the navigation bar along the bottom). It's only on Google, the rest of the phone is fine. I've updated to iOS5.1, tried doing a factory restore, soft reset, pretty much everything but cannot change it back. I have also check to make sure that I haven't inadvertently toggled the phone to white on black. Any ideas?
Try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time. -
I received an email this am telling me I was charged for a purchase I made of .99 this am. I did not purchase anything. I contacted PayPay and was informed it was for a recurring monthly .99 fee..I don't know what that is and don't want it. What is it? PayPal cancelled any further payments for this. I was informed I needed to request refund from ITunes. I did that. Why was I charged a .99 recurring fee? I purchased, or thought I did, an app called "Appzilla2" on Jan 10 for .99 cents. Does this mean I must pay .99/monthly to use it? If so, please cancel the appzilla.
We are itunes users just like you. We cannot cancel anything.
Look at your purchase history and see what the charge is for. Contact itunes support if need be. -
the background behind my pages has turned black, how do i get it to go back to grey? i have switched between preview, normal, bleed, slug and presentation and closed and opened in design and it is still black. I can't imagine layouts with the black background please help!

Does charging your computer too long really kill the battery? I have some friends who claim this happened to thair PCs, and my friend's iBook G4 has about ~3 minutes of battery life because of this. Has Apple fixed this in later models or should I still only charge it until just as long as it takes for it to get filled up?
Mac power management is now, and always has been, very smart. The Mac does not over-charge its battery.
Batteries have a limited lifetime, and they eventually wear out whether they are charged daily or never charged at all. Your friend's G4 battery, if original, has lasted a very long time. It is not dying due to over-charging, it is dying due to old age.
For longest battery life, follow the recommendations in the article shldr2thewheel cited above. -
I have a friend who I was helping out with his iPhone. He has since lost it. I believe I backed it up to my machine but have no idea where to find it. Is it possible to find it and read the back-up file without the original device being connected?
If he gets another device - you should be able to restore it from your computer to the point where you backed it up

The question was the phone is under water - not muffled nor low sound. It is getting regular that my iPhone 4S and others I know get the sound distorted as though it is under water. I have reset the phone, turned off wifi (Apple said do this). What can be done?

Thank you. I rang Vodafone and although they were not too technical - they suggested my speaker was broken and was probably interfering with the microphone sound out as well. So thank you for the clue - I must admit to not thinking of ringing my carrier supplier. Thank goodness for two things - it is intermittent and I am due an upgrade phone in 6 weeks. I can manage till then I hope with the watery sound from time to time. -
My iphone 4 is telling me I have to restore but when I plug in and connect to itunes, it freezes about 30-50 % through the process. Now I can't use my phone at all? I am waiting about 1-3 hours for this process to finish and nothing ever happens. HELP!!
Put it into DFU mode - hold the sleep/wake button and home button until the screen goes black (ignoring the slide to turn off slider). When the screen goes black release the sleep/wake button but hold the home button. Continue holding the home button for 10 seconds, then release it. The screen should stay black. Plug it into iTunes and it should come up with this message "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. It must be restored before use", that's when it is successfully in DFU mode. Now press the restore button in iTunes and it should run smoothly :)
