Have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

thanksYou are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac. No version of iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs. I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher. The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac. I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

The only to potentially find is if you can do so via Find My iPhone - which will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPad disabled on it.
If you haven't already done so then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc, and if it's a cellular model then contact your carrier.
In terms of the serial number, if you have a backup of the iPad on your computer's iTunes then you should be able to go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences if on a Mac), select the Devices tab on that, and then hover your mouse pointer of the iPad's backup : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

Unless "Find My iDevice" was enabled on the device prior to it being lost, there is no way to track it. -

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely. -

You don't have to install the Find My iPhone app - you need to switch the feature on in the settings on the phone.

There is a FindMyiPhone program/app associated with MobileMe that, if setup, would allow you to send these requests to the iPad. If this was not setup and the OP did not have a passcode setup on the device, the they would need to follow Allan Samson's advice. If the OP did financial transactions on the iPad, they should probably treat it like they would a stolen billfolder or purse.

First, report the theft to the Police, do not attempt to recover it yourself.
Second, if you turned on Settings > iCloud > Find My then login to your iCloud account, click Find My Phone and IF the iPad is turned on and connected to the internet it will show its location. Give that information to the Police.
Apple does not get involved in location of stolen or lost property. -

My mini iPad got stolen, I didn't even have chance to register yet, Is there any way I can register it without my device?
