My iPhone can be wiped by anyone just by checking work emails on Exchange!

Incredible! I just found that that by simply setting up a Mail profile to check my Microsoft Exchange work email or calendar allows my employer to completely wipe my iPhone/iPad. This happens without any warnings whatsoever!
It turns out that if you configure the iPhone/iPad to access your employer's Exchange mail, not only your IT administrators can remotely wipe your phone, but also anyone who is able to either get or reset your Windows password at work can then initiate a wipe of your iPhone/iPad by sipmly using the Outlook Web Access and logging in as yourself.
This is just unacceptable. I understand the need to do this, but the users should be told that this can happen **before** establishing the new profile, so we can make a choice of whether to accept this risk or not. If you use an Android phone to check your Exhcange email, you will be presented with a nice scary warning that says that the employer will be able to wipe and/or lock your phone. Not with the iOS... it simply instals the profile allowing your iOS device to be wiped at any time.
What would happen if a disgruntled IT Administrator at a company decides to wipe 10,000 **personal** iPhones belonging to poor the employees who had no idea this could happen and that their iPhones were super-secure? Up until today, I though only myself knowing my iCloud account could remotely wipe my phone. Now I know there were dozens of helpdesk and IT admins who could have done the same, be it as a terrible joke or by being upset.
If anyone is skeptical that this could be done like I was (I had to actually iniate a wipe to see if really work..), here's a couple of links:

Notice how Apple omitted to add that this will be done without ever obtaining your pemrission or to display any warnings that this could be done...
Needless to say that I stopped using my personal iPhone and iPad to check my Exchange work email and calendar.

    Try this:
    1. Select Mail>File>New Message.
    2. Select Mail>Window>Address Panel.
    3. Use (command+click) on the desired addressees in the Address Panel to create the list.
    4. Click "To:" on the top left of the Address Panel.
    The group that you selected will be added to the "To" field in your New Message.

    Sorry if I confused you. Let me try again:
    1) do a full backup your iPhone to a PC using iTunes
    2) go to: settings, general, reset, erase all content and settings.erase phone.
    3) when iPhone starts again choose set as new phone. Do not restore from icloud or iTunes.
    4) once done. Setup your email accounts. When done, verify checked emails do not uncheck themselves.
    That resolved, finish setting up:
    5) go to: settings, icloud, uncheck email, and set other icons as wished. Now setup icloud account.
    6)This step will make all contracts reside in icloud and be available always:  Once icloud account is setup, go back to settings, email contacts. Open each email account and uncheck contacts, but leave mail checked. Then go to the icloud email account and check contacts.

    I'm not really sure what you are referring to when you say reset, but the first thing you want to do if you purchase an iOS device second hand is restore it.  This will make sure the iOS is perfect and up to date and nothing is loaded onto the device without your knowledge.  If you have reason to suspect something may be loaded allowing the previous owner access to your information, then I would recommend restoring.  Also, ensure you have your own Apple ID and password that no one knows or uses but you.  You can change your Apple password if you are worried someone has access to that, as your Apple ID can be used in multiple places giving access to others who have your Apple ID and password.

    If your work email is not an iCloud email address (i.e. @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com) then you'll have to ask the provider of your work email account how to configure it as IMAP on all your devices/computers.

  • I need to open iPhone that was wiped with Notes Traveler, appID not working

    I have a phone (iphone5C) that I´ve sent a command "Wipe Device" using Notes traveler on Noted Domino 9.0.1.  The phone is in locked state and unable to use the appID that was used to set the phone up.  Think that there must be somekind of an software error in "Find my Iphone" or the cloud connect.
    The phone asks for an appID s******@s*****.is   and that is the correct appID. But when I log in , the phone says that the phone can not be unlocked using this email address.

    That's not how an iPhone should have been wiped. I have no idea what Notes traveler is but perhaps you should contact the developer since it was their software used to send the command.

    We are currently upgrading our Exchange environment to 2013 from 2007. Our 2007 Exchange is a multi-role and our 2013 is two servers - a CAS role and MBX role. So far, following the deployment guide, we have most everything working and have begun moving
    mailboxes. However, we can not get IMAP to work. I have started the IMAP services on both the CAS and MBX servers and assigned IMAP to our UC certificate. Checking get-imapsettings on our 2013 CAS server the X509CertificateName does match our UC certificate
    name on our 2013 CAS. Under ECP > Servers > CAS - I have authentication for IMAP set to Secure TLS connection and everything else as default. When I run the Microsoft Remote Connectivity analyzer using a account that we have migrated to 2013 I get the
    following error below. It successfully resolves the host name we use for Exchange, the port 993, and shows a valid certificate. Any ideas what I may be missing for IMAP to work. OWA and other services seem to be working just fine. Is there anything manual
    I need to do with the imap settings for internal/external urls,etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have spent 3 days trying to diagnose the problem.

    The x509certificatename setting does match the CN as well. Sorry I should have mentioned that the CN and friendly name are the same. IIS (OWA) works just fine with the certificate and based on the full test results shown below the problem seems to be
    with authentication but I can't put my finger on it. IMAP connections to our 2007 Exchange server are working just fine. I'm wondering if it is an issue with the coexistence of the two versions perhaps? I don't see anything about 2007/2013 coexistence being
    an issue with IMAP but I'm also not finding anything in the deployment guide about additional settings that need to be changed to get IMAP to work properly.

    I have installed my personal Yahoo Mail on my 9810 Torch; as a result, the Contacts list now includes a mix of work and personal when first pulled up.  I can then change it to display only one of my contacts lists (work or personal), but that requires several thumb fiddles every time.  Is there a way to have the Contacts display default to only my work contacts displayed upon opening?

    By design, the BlackBerry will display all contacts when you launch the Address Book.
    You would need to use the Filter option to view your personal separately from your work contacts.

    Thanks for the input.  Interesting that it ran on my computer for a 
    while (about 2 days) before it first started bleating.  I suppose if I 
    had to upgrade, it would be to the Mac version.  Everything else I 
    have tried on Parallels works, even Steinberg's Wavelab, which I 
    thought would be an impossibility.
    I shall persevere.  I am just appalled at the level of support that 
    Adobe provides, plus the fact that their website just plain doesn't 
    work.

    My understanding thus far is that each App purchase is tied to only the xact Apple ID that was used to purchase it.  So supposedly if you change your Apple ID those Apps bought on the Old Apple ID are not transferable to a new Apple ID.  The reason for this would be that otherwise people could endlessly share their purchased Apps with other Users with different Apple ID's, who would not have to pay for the use of the Apps.
