My iphone can't be recognized by itunes and it won't turn on fully..

My girlfriend bought an iphone today on craigslist..the man who bought it said that it was jailbroke but he didn't use it very much. The program was cydia. We went the the att store to get some accessories and the techician did a restore on the phone. Now it won't turn on, it is stuck on the apple icon loading screen, which is a snowflake now, and it isn't being recognized by itunes! What should I do?

Unfortunately for you, jailbroken phones void Apple's warranty. In addition, you forfeit your right to any support from Apple including from this forum. Terms of Use of this forum prohibit the discussion of jailbroken phones.
This is why it is never advisable to purchase a phone from anyone other than an authorized reseller.
You will need to search the internet for a solution to your problem. Keep in mind that most jailbroken phones will never again work properly, if at all.

Did you try recovery mode? Hold down the home button as you connect it to iTunes. iTunes should pop up a window that says "iTunes has detected a device in recovery mode" and give you the option to restore.

IPhone 3GS no longer recognized in iTunes and does not charge via wall

I upgraded my iMac to iTunes 9.2 when it came out.
My wife then upgraded her iPhone 3GS to iOS4.
Since then it is not recognized in iTunes and does not charge via the wall adapter.
I realize this topic crosses over with several ongoing discussions, but there are no 3rd party peripherals involved here.
The only major changes to our set up have been the itunes and iOS upgrades.
The battery is running down, any ideas to fix this, or other similar experiences welcome.

Iphone 5S is no longer recognized in ITunes so it cannot sync. I am not seeing the driver listed and therefore the recommendation to repair the driver does not work for me. Have rebooted, deleted Itunes and reuploaded many many times. I have read and tried all the "Apple" fixes listed. I use Kasperasky Anti-Virus and wondered if that could be blocking the driver needed. I have added the Apple programs to Kaspersky's exclusion list but that did not work. Seems ridiculous to spend any more money to download songs in ITunes if I can never sync my Iphone 5S to get them on my phone. Apple techs, please help - just recommending the standard fixes I keep reading has not helped at all. Anyone else have a different suggestion? Thanking you in advance as I've spent so many hours on trying to find a fix.

Thank you for your suggestions but I still have the problem. The Iphone 5S is not recognized and I have deleted Kaspersky off my computer (and still have not put it back on yet). I still do not see the Apple Mobile Service USB Driver listed. I had done this process previously (several times) but went through it all again in your order just in case I missed something. I am wondering if there is a way to go back to the previous version of ITunes in case it was the ITunes update causing me the problems. I do not think I can blame it on Kaspersky since it is not on my computer now and I have the same problem.
I also notice that the Iphone is not listed in my devices in Windows 7 - not sure if it was before or is suppose to be for sure - but just noting it is not. I tried the option to add devices but Windows does not find the Iphone 5S. Just thought I would add that information in case that should lead to a solution. Again thanks for your time - would appreciate any other suggestions. I don't think you can use Apple Support without paying money so would like to find help from someone else having the problems. I think it is odd so many people are having problems with their phone being recognized or sometimes just it syncing - and various steps have helped others (like uninstalling and re-installing). My iphone will not get recognized by itunes, and i cannot back up anything! help!

Every time i connect my iphone to my windows pc, it says the contents of this iphone "my name" cannot be read. please restore your iphone and yada yada yada. I dont even have options to back up or anything, just restore, and even when i restore, it still restores it to the same latest software update!! *** do I do? im so sick of this thing already, its not even funny...
also, is youtube video viewing supposed to buffer slowly??? cuz yeah.,..thats a problem too.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

Can't uninstall or reinstall itunes (and it won't open)

When i click on my itunes icon, it reads "iTunes cannot run because some of its requrired files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes". When I try to reinstall iTunes and click on my iTunes Setup it reads "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine, installation cannot continue". So if i go into my control pannel and go to my remove program file, and try to uninstall itunes it reads "A later version of iTunes is already on this machine, installation cannot continue"

Follow the instructions in this knowledge base article to completely uninstall iTunes from your system, so you can do a clean install.
Troubleshooting iTunes and iPod Software installation on Windows
The Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility is probably the step that really needs to be done, but work through the steps.
Uninstalling iTunes will not affect your iTunes library, preference or music files.

My iPhone 4s Power Button is stuck down and it won't turn on

I tried plugging it into my computer and it didn't turn on either.

Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. If nothing happens after holding for up to 30 seconds your phone is broken. If something other than an Apple logo appears follow the on-screen instructions.
But if you "forgot" your passcode you will have to restore your phone using iTunes. If you use the last computer you synced the phone to this will remove your passcode. If you use any other computer, or you never synced your phone, you will lose all content.

I got an error from an update and now my iphone 4 doesn't show up on itunes as a device. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have the most recent version of itunes downloaded.

Quit iTunes.
Disconnect your iPhone from your PC.
Go to Control Panel.
List installed software and remove the driver software for the iPhone. It's named something like "Driver or Device, Apple iPhone".
Restart Windows 7.
Connect your iPhone, make sure it the screen is not locked.
Windows should automatically re-install the driver software for the iPhone now.
If it has done that, start iTunes.
iTunes should now detect your iPhone again.

My ipod cannot be recognized by itunes and it won't charge

I have a couple of problems with my 30g ipod. First of all it won't be recognized by my itunes( nothing is wrong with itunes at all). Second it has a sad icon. Third it has a charging icon but it is not animated and when i go and reset it, it just goes back to the sad icon.What should i do?

You can take it to an Apple store if that's more convenient. They have been known to exchange faulty iPods on the spot.
If you send it in, Apple usually aim for a one week turnaround, but it can be more (or less) depending on how busy they are.

Ipod touch was working till i connected to itunes and now won't turn on

I connected it and asked for me to authorize like sixty applications and every time i tried itunes timed out.While doing so it had the apple logo with the loading screen around it and after the third try the ipod became unresponsive.It will not turn on,or restore.I tried holding the two buttons for a full min but still nothing,please help...

OK, problem solved.
I didn't want to restore my iPod until I knew that it was something to do with my hard drive. Also I was a bit hesitant because the songs were playing fine on my iPod. It just wasn't being recognized by my computer when I connected it.
However when I dropped by the Apple Store they were swamped with customers. I didn't get a chance to see anyone at the Genius Bar.
So I decided to restore my iPod, even if it meant I would be losing all my songs.
This is my 3rd iPod (my other ones broke) so I knew all about backing my songs onto a CD.
After I restored it it was working fine!
So I suggest all you people to BACK UP YOUR MUSIC.
There were so many times when my iPod screwed up on my and I lost everything.

The screen on my iPad is black and unresponsive. it hasn't been synced to the computer before (so i can't do anything from there), and it won't turn on.

What should I do?

First try a Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

HT1430 My iphone died suddenly with a full battery and it won't turn back on.

My iPhone 4 died suddenly with a full battery. I have tried, multiple times, holding the home button and the sleep/wake button at the same time for over 3 minutes.
