My iPhone contract has terminated and I want to unlock my 3gs

I have reached the end of my two year contract on my iphone and I want to unlock it. My cell provider does not do it so how can I get it unlocked? I do not want some shady third party software that screws it all up. The phone is mine now and I want to travel with it internationally.

If you're in the USA, complain to the FCC http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm or call your congressman.
The cell providers obviously need more regulation to prevent their anti-consumer practices.

YOu would need to contact Orange and have them unlock your phone.
ONly the carrier that the phone is locked to is authorized to unlock it.

So you are not in Sweden then ???

Telia do NOT offer unlocking so it is most unlikely that the iPhone is unlocked and even more unlikely you wold convince them to unlock it

It's not going to happen. Even a cursory reading of the forums would have revealed this fact.
Apple can NOT help you. AT&T WILL NOT help you.
Leave your iPhone at home or in airplane mode while you're in India and buy yourself a cheap disposable phone to use while you're in India. I believe AT&T still has a program where they will put your account "on hold" while you are gone for a small fee.

By far the most common problem hardware-wise seems to be scuffs on the aluminium. Yours is the first report of a faulty screen I've seen.
If you use the same Apple ID on both devices it'll sync whatever you want it to - music/apps/photos/messages/etc.

I solved my own problem. Hopefully this will help someone else.
I did a DFU restore, then started it up as a new phone on iTunes. Everything loaded properly, then from iTunes did a restore from backup, selected the one I wanted and it still took me to the same screen with 3 options of restore. I chose the start up as new phone from the actual phone and after all the syncing was completed, my phone is back in working order.

IF you installed and activated find my iphone on the iphone iself BEFORE it was stolen, AND it is on, AND it has not been restored, then you may be able to track it.
Since you are asking the question, I am guessing that you did not install find my iphone.
If this is the case, then, no, you cannot track it.

To change your iCloud ID, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID. This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud. If you're using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, you can erase the device remotely and remove it from your account by signing in to icloud.com/find, selecting the device, and clicking Erase. When the device has been erased, click Remove from Account.

i've found a great & simple solution for this problem
just open your iCloud acc on iPhone
turn off calendars (it wil ask you to keep info or not - KEEP IT!)
and turn back on (MERGE!)
now SYNC it..
and that's it
PS in my case it was contacts so the procedure is the same..
