You could try restoring and staying away from that backup. I've had that happen to me before on my iPhone 4 from a corrupt backup. You could be coincidently mixing the two issues, sounds to me like you got lucky and your phone is A-OK but you may be using a corrupt backup.

Here's how to perform the restore:

If you can actually get to restore, maybe (I estimate a 0.01% chance) you'll be able to do a backup before the restore. Actually, from the symptoms you describe, I suspect a restore won't work either and you'll need to do a recovery.
Just in case, if you need to recover (restore fails), here's how. Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once.

IPhone died and when I restore it won't let me

I was listening to music on the iPhone last night and my phone froze up. I did what the manual told me to do up to restoring the phone using iTunes. When I downloaded the new update, iTunes ran the software to the phone then said there was an error to restoring the iPhone (6). It says it's an unknown error but I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is and how to fix on my own (if I can) or do I need to take it in to an Apple Store? The phone isn't even two weeks old.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. It only started a few days ago. When I make or receive calls I have to use speaker otherwise I can't hear a thing. I'm also pretty sure that when I try to make calls without the speaker turned on, it doesn't actually dial, but the display says it has.
I've tried restoring from a backup with no luck. I'm reluctant to restore as a new phone as it's such a pain.

Is it because the new itunes looks different.
View > Show Sidebar
Then it should work just the same as on your old computer.
