- if when you connect the iPod to your computer you can make a backup? If yes yo can restore from that backup

- Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backup dated when you started the update. the first stiep of an update is iTunes making a backup.

If you don't have a backup, then all your pics/text/notes are gone.
You can sync back music and app. If you were syncing your contacts with a program in itunes, then you'll get that back.
Not sure why you didn't do a backup, especially prior to doing an upgrade.

You have a couple of options:
Open the photos one at a time and take a screenshot. This will add a new low resolution copy of the photo to the camera roll, which will then upload to your photo stream;
Email the photos a few at a time to yourself, then save the attached photos to your camera roll. This will add a copy of the photo at full resolution to your camera roll and upload to photo stream;
Use an app like PhotoSync, which will allow you to wirelessly transfer copies of all your old photos to your computer all at once. Then delete these photos from your camera roll and use PhotoSync to transfer them back from your computer to your camera roll. These will be the original resolution and will upload to your photo stream. (You need an app like this because iTunes will not transfer photos back to your camera roll, where they must be in order to add to your photo stream.)

If your phone is in recovery mode (You see the iTunes graphic on the phone), you MUST connect the device to a computer and restore the operating system. There is no supported way to get around it. The device had a problem installing the update and it crashed. Sorry.

My Iphone froze while I was updating my OS

My Iphone 3G froze while is was upgrading the OS installed on it. Even when i restart my phone the "Connected to Itunes" logo appears. I have even tried to hold home and sleep button for 10 seconds with no results.
I've also tried reinstalling Itunes, but the Iphone doesn't appear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My 2g, and 3GS have crashed every time on updates on XP, vista, and win7. The restore usually doesn't work the first time or 2 until you've rebooted the computer once or twice. I even had to create a second user on the computer, load a separate itunes on it to get it to restore(with apple guy walking me through it) then switching to my normal user and backing up to the phone. Really wastes a ton of time.

so while updating my iphone there was an error so the application (iTunes) quite, but my iphone froze. it has a logo of iTunes on top and arrow and then the chord to connect to the phone which means to connect iphone to itunes, i did but it is still frozen. Connect iPhone to iTunes again and try to Restore again. If it Errors, write down the Error Code on paper so that the problem can be corrected.

Reset the iPhone. Press and hold the top and home buttons for 10+ seconds until it forcibly restarts. Then you should be able to either continue or Restore it using iTunes on your computer.

Brand new iPhone froze while restoring!

I am really frustrated. I JUST picked up my iPhone 3 hours ago and tried to sync it with my iTunes. It suggested that I update my software to 3.1 so I did, then iTunes froze and I had to restart my computer. Now my iPhone is stuck on the iTunes screen and keeps insisting that I restore the factory settings when I plug it in. This would be no problem except it wont allow it to restore! It is my only phone so I cant call to talk to anyone and ATT said I have to go to the Apply store, but I live an hour away and it doesnt open until 10am tomorrow. I tried to hold off/home at the same time, but it always goes to the same iTunes screen. It wont let me do anything and I cant figure out how to fix it.

disable your antivirus/antitrojan guards and firewalls and try again... give it time don't rush it (there are not very good indicators in itunes that it is doing something and it is rather slow on windows)...
if it still fails try a re-install of itunes...

I was taking pictures using a photo editing app named Luminance, and after I took a photo the screen froze.
The lock button nor the home button works. I can't turn it off either.

I've had the same thing happen to me when an app starts to lag, shutting it off will burn it on the screen, not allowing you to enter your passcode for the Iphone. It is frustrating but do as @kb1951 said. It worked for me.

THere was an error updating your sofware. An error has ocurred while updating your devices software. Device communications error encountered. [A:0x0000000F].

I've tried the suggestion "Please try the following: Disconnect your device and restart your computer. Restart the loading process" multiple times with or without battery, but still the same.
This error propmpted while loading the system software.
Anyone encounter this issue befire and how to fix it, really appreciated
