My iPhone has suddenly stopped emitting any sounds and no longer vibrated even when I push the side tab up or down?

Try a Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

During a two weeks process, little by little I notice my phoe doesn't ring when I get a phone call. So Far I have missed 22 calls that I am aware of. Moreover, the phone does not alert me when I get a text message. Sometimes I receive notice the next day that I received a call or a text message.

Bought a new IPhone 4 for a relative. I have the same phone. We activated the phone with AT&T, set the phone up with IOS 6.0, etc. Our problem is that the phone has no sound. You can call it and it vibrates, but will not ring. We try to play ringtones, ITunes .... nothing. No sound whatsoever. We have checked settings ... what are we missing in the setup process???? Or do we have a bad phone?? Any help you can provide would be welcome. Thanks.

Did u press the mute button button on the left side? If u didn't try going into settings and go to sound. Then u will see ringers and alerts.. Try to put that into maximum.. Maybe u accidentally lower ur volume

I use my iPhone 4 regularly with headphones and their controls. Now, however, the iPhone doesn't play any sounds on its own, except for alarms.
I have powered on and off; i have made sure that the volume control is set correctly; but so far i have not been able to restore normal sound functions to the phone.
Can anyone please advise me as to what to do? I have not heard about such a problem before.

I have the same issue. Phone rings with calls and alarm works but no sounds with tweets, messages...etc
Tried sleep-wake with Home button reset.. Tried full restore from back up. Mute slider makes no difference.
When in settings/ sounds and I try to select alert sounds I can feel the Vibrate with each selection but no sounds.

Hold down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.
If this does not work you will need to get it serviced.

Try to use the volume buttons to adjust it. Go to Settings>>Sounds, and check if Adjust Volume with buttons is turned on.
Check in Settings>>General>>Restrictions if there is a restriction for volume turned on. If yes, turn it off and set the volume limit as higher as possible.
The speaker is easy to break if wet, even wet for a little. My girlfriend's iPhone speaker broke with some drops of a drink.
Anyway, check if Restrictions is turned on, rebbot your idevice, be sure you have selected a pernonalized sound (ringtone) that works (change to a standard ringtone), check if "Do Not Disturb" is turned off.

The phone suddenly only vibrates. Will not even play music, etc, but sound can be heard when using a headset. Sounds like the external speaker might be broken. Checked do not disturb, side switch, did a settings reset, etc. nothing. Any suggestions?

My iphone has no sound. My incoming calls can't be heard, the keyboard, music....nothing. I tried every suggestion that has been posted. I removed the SIM card and put it back. Powered the phone on and off. Pushed the volume up and down buttons several times. Blew out the headphone jack and put the headphones in and out several times. I can hear music through the headphones, but that is it. (And for those individuals that posted make sure the button on the side is in "ring" mode...thank you...that was the first thing I checked).
I wonder if everyone who this problem and tried all the troubleshooting had to return their phones? Did you have to send it in to Apple? How long did it take to fix? I have a hard time being without a phone, I run my business this way. If anyone knows, please let me know.
I think it is pretty bad of Apple when you pay so much for a phone and so many people are having this problem that they don't figure it out and fix it. Maybe a recall?? Sounds like too many of us have had this problem.

Sorry about your situation. We do shell out some money for this phone (some more than others) but at the end of the day we are humans and these phones are also made by workers that cannot even afford and iPhone. Don't blame Apple (blame Foxconn?).
I normally use the vibrate with the Bluetooth headset and send the audio through the Bluetooth speaker, so this is not a big issue for me. However if your settings are correct they can verify this issue at the store immediately but not sure about the turn around but the Apple genius should have some estimate.
Hope the the Bluetooth can help.

The sound on my iphone no longer works, nor do the buttons at the side that turn sound on and off/volume control. But weirdly, you can play music without headphones. Tried restore and jack in and out. No luck... any ideas?

The sound on/off button onthe side of my iPhone no longer works, nor do the volume buttons. All sound has disappeared from the phone apart from the Music which still plays. Have tried th Restore and restart phone plus have plugged and unplugged phone jack. No luck - any idea anyone?

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone. I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner. An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand. The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced. I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

No sound or vibration on sms from specific contact on iphone 4s

i have an iphone 4s. for some reason when 1 specific contact texts me, i never receive an alert or vibrate. the screen shows that i have a text. however, i never hear or feel that the message has been received. if we are actively texting, no sounds or vibration will be heard or felt during the communication.
so far, this has only happened with this one contact. this contact is also a non-iphone user. so all texts are sent via sms.
when this contact calls, my iphone rings and vibrates. this problem only occurs during text messaging.
i have reset. restarted. deleted the contact. removed. re-added.... done just about everything.
i have no idea what is special about this contact. i think it's carrier and/or phone related, but i don't feel comfortable asking the contact that information.
has this happened to anyone else?
i see a few similar questions, but no one has responded or added this much detail.

There are a few things you can try, first of restart the phone (hold the lock button untill you see the bar then slide to power off).
Erase all settings from Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.
Backup and restore via iTunes on a computer.
There is a reason it costs a little more to get it repaired through apple. All apple repairs are covered by a 3 month repair warranty for things exactly like this. You may still be able to get it fixed by apple but they dont always accept devices with third party tampering.

And no, if your phone is vibrating when you get texts/calls then you're not in Do Not Disturb. You would see a Crescent Moon symbol to the left of Battery % if it was on.
