My iphone has started reporting incorrect username or password for my gmail account
I have re-entered both and checked that they match the ones which I use succesfully in Apple Mail on my Mac. I have also deleted and re-added the account with no effect. I notice that in Apple Mail the gmail account is set to use POP for incoming gmail whereas on the iPhone it appears to be set for IMAP, as the error message when I re-enter details refers to imap.gmail.com.
I can still send email from the gmail account on the iPhone and incoming gmail still works on the Mac.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. Thankfully it has not been necessary to make use of it as the problem solved itself.
Some research on another thread suggested a similar problem in August 2012. Some suggested that it was a fault at Google and that it cleared up of its own accord (without Google ever admitting it had happened). This appears to have been the case again on this occasion. I went to bed having failed to solve it and woke up to find it working again without so much as a re-boot.

Sometimes, you have to go deeper into the settings and check the outgoing mail server setting as well, especially, if you cannot send mail.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional -

my 'friend' was using my Ipod touch and when I came to switch it on and enter my passcode it comes up with 'Password Incorrect. Enter the password for exchange account "Hotmail" I think the the hotmail account is my 'friends'...............ANYONE HELP???

Try deleting the account from the iPod and reentering the settings. It is easy to make an error and notbe able find it.

I keep getting this error. But I don't have an exchange account set up with the phone. I deleted my exchange email and calendar syncing from my old job but I still constantly get this error, like 30-40 times a day. Anyone have any suggestions?

A piece of information that might help; I remember having to install something that Apple released right after the iPhone 4 launch that was supposed to fix Exchange authentication, so I removed the profile update to see if that would fix the problem but it didn't. Well, I suspect a profile got installed on your phone & now you can't delete it. That's why you're getting that popup. If my suspicions are correct, your only choice to fix this would be to restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes, followed by syncing your content back to your phone. All data on your phone will be erased, including this now invisible profile. I know of no other way to fix this. -
I have the same username and password for my Apple account and iCloud. My main email server is btinternet. When I try to share a photo by sending an email by iCloud I get a message "Server doesn't recognize username/password combination". Do I need to login to iCloud with my btinternet password?
Seeing others with same problem I have gone into iPhoto>Preferences>Accounts and changed password to btinternet password. It worked. Thanks.

I had EXACTLY the same problem for more than two weeks, that was NOT solved by speaking to BT 'Tech Support' - they kept saying that the problem was the fault of Apple - untill I finally got some help from them today (Mon 7th Oct).
The error message I got - despite ALL settings on my iPhone(5) and iPad(4) being absolutely correct - was this:
'Cannot Send Mail', 'The username or password for SMTP: ***********@mail.btinternet.com is incorrect'
The only solution I got - eventually - from BT is to delete the above account fro the device and 're-install' it again, but THIS time use the 'Yahoo' option from the list of choices rather than 'Other'.
When I did this and entered the relevant Name, E-Mail Address, Password, and Description (you can call the account whatever you like), I selected 'next', then I got the word 'Verifying.......' appear after a few seconds, and then I saw the four 'blue tick marks' appear next to my entries.
These 'blue tick marks' confirm the verification that your details are correct.
The next time you open your e-mail client on your iPhone or iPad you shoud see your ****@btinternet.com e-mail account in the list of e-mail accounts on your phone (if you have more than one) with a Yahoo icon next to whatever name you chose to call it. If you already have a Yahoo! account (like me) it is probably a good idea to call the 'BTYahoo' account, BT or something, rather than keep the default 'Yahoo' name otherwise you will have two with the same name in your accounts list.
You SHOULD eventually get back ALL the e-mails that were previously in your inbox, as well as some 'extra' folders that you probably did not have when you first set up the account on your iOS device.
That is what happened when I reinstalled my account, so I hope this works for you.

If you have 2-step verification set up for your gmail account, you will need to generate an application-specific password for your iphone applications (because those apps apparently don't support 2-step verification).
Go into your google account, look in accounts/security/2-step verification, there is a link called "Manage your application specific passwords" Use that to generate a special password for your iphone apps and use that instead of your usual gmail password on your phone. -
My iPhone has started buzzing or beeping for unknown reasons. It seems to happen when the battery is fully charged as well.
you cannot overcharge the iPhone battery. You can leave it plugged in with a full charge for as long as you want. It will not affect the battery at all.

This has nothing to do with iPhoto. When I have this type of problem I call tech support for my email service. They probably are the only source of the correct settings

Having the exact same problem with connecting ML and Snow Leopard machines to a Windows 8.1 machine. Oddly enough, connecting and copying to/from works perfectly from a Mavericks machine, despite the problems reported about Mavericks regarding the exact opposite. An old thread, but did you find a solution?

Suddenly can't connect to Yahoo email? "Incorrect username or password".
I thought I was past all the email headaches I've had with the X. Its certainly not a Blackberry...lol
Everything has been working fine for the last month and now all of a sudden it wont connect to Yahoo. I've tried removing the account and setting it up again. I've tried every different suggested setting. I got it to work and it synced up all my yahoo email and then an hour later it wouldnt connect again. The error message is "Incorrect username or password". I've entered the correct information.....trust me.
I am at wits end with this phone. The email problems have been going on since the Droid came out. Why hasnt Verizon resolved the problem?

You can search the internet and find many people have had the same thing.. I've had lots of problems with bellsouth also....and so have many others. I still cant , and never have been able to, send an attachment with my bellsouth account.. I had a Verizon Blackberry for years and never once had trouble accessing yahoo or bellsouth. I dont want to switch back. I think the Droid is a cool phone......but if I'm paying $30 for a data plan and need to get my emails I expect to get my emails. -

I Sugges you to log into your hotmail acc and go to security and password change bit, then you will see two-step verification.. turn that off and you will be able to set it up on your iPhone/iPad or even Mac.
