My iphone is being recognised by windows but not itunes
, ive tried to restart the mobile service thing but it won't let me click stop or start! ive reinstalled itunes and got a message saying apple mobile device failed to start! arrgh! help please
Do a reset (make sure you see the Apple logo) while it's plugged in to the computer.
That's the 'starting place'.
And you're not doing a reset if you don't see the Apple logo, BTW. It's not easy to do. If you don't know how to do a reset, you can find directions by doing a quick search of this forum, or doing a quick review of the manual that came with your iPod.

New IPhone 5 is recognized by Windows but, not ITunes.
IPhone 4S sync'd no problem with my laptop. New IPhone 5 is recognized by Windows but, not ITunes. ITunes has been updated, worked with Apple support for 2 hours this morning, still an unresolved problem. Also, phone does sync on other computers.
Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

I apologize if I write bad but I'm ItalianDoublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

IPOD detected by Windows but NOT iTunes – possible solution
I have a new 30GB Video IPOD with an AMD PC running Windows XP SP2 and like many others posting on this site, my iTunes stopped recognizing my IPOD. ITunes did work correctly immediately after my initial software installation and I was able to sync some music, but it failed thereafter and I was unable to add any more files. Like many other users, I tried all suggested fixes including the 5R’s, uninstalling and re-installing the software, changing selective start-up items using “MSCONFIG”, etc. Nothing worked – until I tried the following…
1) Uninstall iTunes & IPOD updater software using Windows Add/Remove Software tool in the Start/Settings menu
2) Reboot Windows
3) Connect IPOD to USB port (Windows should detect the IPOD)
4) Run the original IPOD CD installation disk, load the IPOD Updater software (but not iTunes …yet)
5) The IPOD Updater software loads first, so when prompted to load iTunes, wait (you may minimize the window), go into the IPOD Updater software (Start/Programs menu) and open the IPOD Updater window by clicking on the icon. If your system works like mine, the IPOD should now be recognized and the “RESTORE” button should now be available. Don’t click the “RESTORE” button – just leave this window open (minimize the window if you wish) and go back to the iTunes install window.
6) Continue with the installation of the iTunes software.
7) Once installed try opening the iTunes program to see if IPOD is detected (at this point it still didn’t work for me)
8) With the IPOD still connected, and the IPOD updater window still open, go to Add/Remove Software (Start/Settings) and click on “remove” iTunes – you’ll be prompted to “Repair” or “Remove”. Choose REPAIR. Once this process is complete, try opening iTunes again – at this point my computer now recognized the IPODi could do everything fine up until step 6), the installation of itunes. when i tried to, with the ipod updater window still open, it said it could not continue without closing the updater program. any suggestions?

I am helping a friend with her new iPhone 5.
Issue is that it is recognized by iPhoto but not iTunes.
iPhone 5 16GB, iOS 6.1.4
OSX 10.6.8v1.1, iTunes 10.7, iPhoto 7.1.5
Computer: iMac C2D 2.4 GHz (Early 2008)(iMac8,1), 1 GB RAM,
History, recently updated in-place from 10.5.8 Leopard to 10.6.8v1.1 SL, just for the iPhone 5.
Installed iTunes 10.7 (as we do not like interface and loss of separate Playlist view in iTunes 11).
Noted that iPhone 5 stipulates that iTunes 10.7 or higher is required -- So should be OK there.
Initially iPhone was recognized by both iPhoto and iTunes. Then shortly later, iTunes did not see it anymore, was missing from iTunes Devices list.
Called Apple Support, agent walked us through removing iTunes and the iTunes Receipt packages.
Then Reinstalled iTunes 10.7. Ran Permissions Repair. Restarted computer.
Seemed all good, iTunes (10.7) saw and synced and updated the iPhone.
But Now, after two or three weeks, when user plugged in her iphone and ran iTunes, it did not show the iPhone at all, though iPhoto did start up and show pictures.
So the iMac computer sees the iPhone5 well enough to get picture data, but apparently not well enough for iTunes sync.
(she tends to use the wall charger and not plug it into the iMac very much at all).
In all other known respects, both the iPhone5 and the iMac C2D seem to function normally.
Any thoughts?
I looked at KB article: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/
And at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 (iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X).
And finally am thinking we may need to ALSO do the uninstall via: https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747 (Remove Apple Mobile Device Service). But I have not visited with here to do that yet.........)
Any thoughts on best way to proceed?
Thanks. What error message ar eyou getting. Why do you say it will not allow you to download?
Verify you meet all the system requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store -

Ipod showes up on windows but not itunes
I am having trouble getting my ipod synced back up with itunes. I have tried everything as far as uninstalling itunes and bonjour and all the others.I also tried updating drivers and a few other suggestions from tech support. I brought my ipod to a friends house and it showed up on his computer. So we tried to see if his ipod would show up on my itunes and it did. Also windows recognizes the ipod but something is keeping the itunes software on my computer from connecting to my ipod touch. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I have tried several places and everyone seems to be stumped.

TS1538 iPhone 4S recognized by Windows but not iTunes.
I have been trying to sync my iPhone 4S. I connect to my WIndows 7 laptop and the PC recognizes it, but iTunes won't start. I manually started iTunes and, before I even connect to the PC, iTunes tries to sync and then I get an error that says it can't connect and that I need to restore my iPhone. My iPhone is working perfectly. I followed the direction in the troubleshooter and uninstalled and then reinstalled iTunes. I rebooted several times. No change. The very same thing happens. I also checked that the correct services are runniing and stopped/started them. Don't know what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Make sure both iTunes and your iPhone are up to date.
Also easiest way to find what device is causing the issue is by connecting the iPhone to another pc/mac that has iTunes but do not sync. If the iPhone can be recognised on another computer then it is an issue with your computer and vice versa. -
IPod is charging and recognised by windows, but not recognised by iTunes.
There was an error message but stupidly I did not read it, and it won't come up again. I've tried restarting my laptop, re-installing iTunes, restarting my iPod and all sorts.
The reason (I think) it stopped working was because I was trying to copy music from my iPod to my iTunes, and windows was not recognising it, so a friend suggested deleting and re installing the driver, which was successful. But when I then went on to iTunes, it came up with the error message saying something about the iPod no longer working with iTunes or something, and now won't recognise the iPod no matter what I seem to try.
Is there anything I can do without deleting all the music and resetting the iPod? Because the whole reason I was trying to do this was to back up the music so I could update to ios 5.1 or whatever it is, without losing all my music which I don't have on iTunes as it's a new laptop.
Thank you.

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would start with:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
It will not delete your library.
