If the screen is not showing anyting when you press any of the buttons you may want to try these steps.

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

HT1349 after updating the OS today on my iphone 4S I activated the lock my phone with the password. Now when I truned on the phone it is locked and can not unlock it with the password.

Will old iPhone be locked when new phone is activated?

As subject, will the old iphone be locked once you have sucessfully activated the new one. If that's the case, what's teh best way to transfer/ delete data from the old phone?

Yes, it will be locked. Best way to go about it is: hook up the old phone before you go to the store and start installing the 2.0 software. It will ask you if you want to back up the phone, say yes. When it is done pulling all the data off your phone, stop there. Then go get the new phone, bring it home, plug it in, and continue from there. I think that should work. There were instructions somewhere on the AT&T site.

After many attemps to contact you I landed here, so here is my question.
I recently bought an iPhone 4 over the internet which was locked and not yet activated.
Therefor I need to find out which carrier my iPhone is locked to so I can finally start using this thing, I will not provide my IMEI number in public for security reasons.
So is it possible to check my Carrier lock status by my IMEI / serial number? Because I think it is AT&T yet I am not sure, and I can't check it because I live in Belgium where I cannot get a hold of an AT&T sim card. The owner told me it was a dutch phone so it had to be locked with T-Mobile yet they don't seem to recognize the IMEI. The model number is MC318LL LL is coded for America as I seem to have heard.
Please do help me because I have made MANY attempts finding this out!

This is a user to user help forum only.
This cannot be determined by users with the info provided, and I'm not sure if Apple would give you this info over the phone if you called AppleCare in the U.S. - for security and privacy reasons.
You need to get this info from the seller. If the seller is unable to give you this info or the correct info, return it to the seller for payment credit and purchase an iPhone in your country from an official retailer and you will have less problems or no problems including not having to hack the iPhone to unlock it which removes all the built-in security making it insecure as with an Android phone.

If you have just purchased the iPhone second hand and it is asking for the password to an Apple id that is not yours ,then the iPhone is locked to the original owner and only they can release it

With iOS 7, Find My iPhone includes a new feature called Activation Lock, which makes it more difficult for anyone else to use or sell your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if you ever lose it. It starts working the moment you turn on Find My iPhone in iOS 7. With Activation Lock, your Apple ID and password will be required before anyone can:
Turn off Find My iPhone on your device
Erase your device
Reactivate and use your device
This can help you keep your device secure, even if it is in the wrong hands, and can improve your chances of recovering it. Even if you erase your device remotely, Activation Lock can continue to deter anyone from reactivating your device without your permission. All you need to do is keep Find My iPhone turned on, and remember your Apple ID and password.
If you have forgotten the password to your Apple ID, you will need to reset the password for your Apple ID:
What if I forget my Apple ID password?

I try searching internet and all for solutn...but no one knw about it..but there are...some one me abt method called jailbreaking ..rednw..white snw ..ultrasnw and all...I dnt knw why it is so complicated to troublesht...apple is suppose to be simple and friendly.
C why u manufacturing these stuffz like this, if does'nt serve the any of its purpose ....or useable to any of its features atleast....C i wont be that disapppointed, if u put an option to playbck music or video during activation and all...

It was not legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
In order to allow it to be used on a different carrier, the phone was hacked or jailbroken. An unauthorized modification was made to the phone. That modification has damaged the phone. You can not get support for it here or from Apple.

Careless? Possible, but unlikely. Most likely the phone was stolen from the first owner. It would be a VERY careless iPhone owner who did not erase their personal information from a phone before selling it, and to do that it is necessary to disable Activation Lock. In most places in the world knowingly using stolen property is a crime, so the fact that the phone doesn't work may be the least of one's risks.

i bought a used iphone 4 locked to at&t on ebay. my carrier is at&t so i just got a microsimcard in at&t store. but i can't activate iphone4 using that sim card. it shows activation may takes some time but i have wait for 1 day, still not working. what should i do? i am not in the plan for iphone 4. can i just go to at&t store and let them activate it? is that legal? or is there anyway i can solve this problem? my bb is 3.10.01. so i can't jailbreak it now. thx

AT&T requires that ALL iPhones on their network have a data plan. If you want to use your phone, you have no choice. Otherwise, sell your phone. If you try and use the phone on their network without an associated data plan, they will catch you & bill you accordingly or cancel your service. They can tell exactly what type of phone is using their network from the phone's IMEI number. They may not catch you right away, but they will catch you.

If the device had Find My iPhone activated, yes. Otherwise, no, you don't need your Apple ID & Password, just because of iOS 7.
To access iCloud or iTunes, etcetera, yes. But that's no different than in iOS 6.

Unlocked iPhone 4s, needs activating, won't accept GffGaff sim

Hi, i have an unlocked iphone 4s which hasn't been activated, and a GiffGaff sim card, but the phone wont recognise the sim card, i have no options if i plug it into itunes except 'eject' and no options on the phone apart from language settings, it shows signal bars from the sim card, but no network name, any help would be much appreciated

Apparently you didn't get an iPhone that was officially unlocked, but rather one that either wasn't unlocked at all (and you were flat lied to) or that was hacked to unlock it. Restoring would have removed any such hack in most cases.
Only the carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize an unlock, and most carriers will not unless you have service with them. I'd suggest you go back to the unauthorized reseller from whom you purchased this iPhone for redress, since they didn't sell you what they apparently claimed. It's quite possible, though, that you may have to chalk this up as a learning experience, swallow the loss, and buy another iPhone from an authorized source.
Just so you know, unless your old iPhone was in pieces or jailbroken, Apple would have replaced it for £119 if you had taken it to an Apple Store.

I have a problem with my iphone 4s's activation. After upgrading IOS 7.0.4 the activation required me an account icloud.com with password that i forgot... it is not my usualy apple ID (wherewith i have activate my iphone)!
Right now i haven't yet complited de activation, how can i risolve it??? thanks

This is called Activation Lock, & there is no way around it. To re-activate this phone, you MUST use the Apple ID/Password that was originally used to activate the phone. If you don't know this info, you WILL NOT be able to re-activate this phone. It will be useless, & Apple can't/won't help you.
Resetting your phone, as suggested by Rahul won't help either. If you forgot your Apple ID, you can use this:

Regardless, you'll have to remember this info. Otherwise, all you'll own is a paperweight.
