My iPhone is losing connection whilst syncing

When I try to sync / back up my iPhone 4S to iTunes, it gets to 'Step 4' then it says that the connection was lost. I'm not sure why it's doing it - but it's starting to get annoying now, and I've tried doing quite a few things, and it's still the same.
Does any one have any ideas??
Thanks

I am using a brand new iPhone 5s, and having the same issues. This may have been a fluke, but here is what I did that seemed to remedy the problem (for now anyway):
1. While iPhone was plugged into Macbook, I unticked "Sync Music," then unticked "Sync Photos," in order to basically create a blank slate on my phone, eliminating the possibility of anything getting in the way of the sync. Weirdly, even though I didn't try to sync it, all of the photos and music were removed from the iPhone immediately.
2. I kind of wondered if the "other" storage (mine was pretty sizeable) was connected to this syncing issue, so I went into my iCloud settings on my iPhone, and found that it had saved about 4GB of data from previous backups of phones I don't use anymore. I deleted them, since I've already got everything backed up to my computer as well.
3. I plugged the phone back in, opened up iTunes, and ticked "Sync Music" again. Everything synced.
*NOTE* After syncing the music (just under 4GB on a 16GB phone), iTunes is now refusing to sync photos from iPhoto onto my phone. I can import photos to iPhoto, but I can't put photos from iPhoto onto my phone. This works for me, for now, though I will look for a solution to this new problem. If anyone has a better way of working this out, please share.
Also, I'm thinking step 1 probably wasn't necessary, and may have been the cause of the photo syncing issue, but it was something I did per someone else's advice. Step 2, I think, is what helped the most.

  • ITunes 10.3.1(55) on Mac showing 42408 error when iPhone 3GS is connected for syncing

I am trying to connect my iPhone 3GS to iTunes 10.3.1(55) on a Macbook pro but I am seeing the error "42408" and I am being asked to restore my iphone to factory settings.
Please help as I don't want to undergo the risk of losing all my data.
    Thanks.

    teefster,
not sure this helps; but, I've found that if the remote app doesn't connect I close it out (double pressing the home button and 'sliding up' the remote app (ios7)) Then when I restart the remote app - it seems to connect.
Same behavoir now on my iPad since I've update the remote app. Ironically itunes recognizes the ipad WITHOUT having to 'p'air it'! My iphone 5S must be paired to itunes =:0
now that all our iphones are on the most current version of ios7 and have the most current version of the remote app - the connect to itunes is now glitchy; but, still usable with the aforementioned work around. Ironcially, when either the ios7 OR the remote we just the most previous version they seemed to connect to my itunes without issue.
BTW - see this thread for help on down reving your remote app:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23946928#23946928
Agreed Apple seems a little remiss in the supporting the backward compatibilty of the app.
thanks for taking the time to reply!

  • IPhone loses USB connection during sync

My new iPhone is working fine so far except for one pretty major issue: I can't sync music/videos to it very well, because about 20/30 seconds into the sync, it loses USB connection. The "Sync in Progress" screen disappears and it goes back to the home screen, and I get an error message in iTunes that says "The drive cannot be found" or "The drive cannot be read from or written to"
The sync itself does work, because I tried syncing a playlist with only one song, and it worked fine because it had time to sync before the connection was lost.
I have USB 2.0 ports and my drivers are updated. I've tried every USB port on my computer.

I read your other thread and a couple of things struck me.
First, it wasn't clear to me whether you'd actually turned off auto sync and then gone in and disabled everything except for a movie or two, let's say. Because we have definitely seen issues where other sync aspects (particularly email) cause issues with media syncing. If you haven't tried it it's definitely worth a try (go into iTunes with the iPhone connected and turn off auto sync -- then hook up the phone and turn off all sync options. I'd then try a music playlist with an album or two. If that works turn off music sync and try with a video or two).
Assuming the above gets you nowhere (and trying to place myself in your shoes) if you lived here in the US (which I don't think you do) the easy no-brainer thing to try would be something like this:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7833785&type=product&id=1142298626 004
Since Best Buy offers a money-back return policy this is safe to try and only involves a bit of work in installing the card. But doing this will isolate the MB from the problem, as well as any drivers issues (since the drivers for the card should be okay).
In the old days this kind of solution (albeit with firewire cards) was recommended all the time with iPods, and it solved about 98% of all difficulties. I don't have any data (even anectdotal) here to back it up, but my feeling is this should solve whatever problems you're having. If not it would be valuable information as well.
Overseas I don't know what to tell you, but if there's anyone listening in on this thread from the states perhaps they can try this and let everyone know.

  • Losing connection, but sync appears OK ??

Switched to BT almost 2 moths ago, so thought I would give the line a chance before passing judgement on the performance.
I was told to expect 6.5mb link when joining, this has turned out to be at best 4.5 on the sync from the HH3.  This is disappointing, but I could live with this if it were the problem.
The main issue I have is slow downs. A typical "good" speedtest result would be about 3.5 mb, but this can drop to sub 1mb in an evevening or at the weekend.  Again, frustrating and not what I expect or want but just about liveable with.
What I really am getting frustrated with now is the loss of internet.  Xbox connection will drop, or internet pages will not load, from both wireless and connected PC's.  This can remain like it for 1 to 5 mins for instance and then come back OK.
If I check the connection on the HH when this is happening, it still says "CONNECTED" and I have an IP assigned.  What concerns me is that I am only in 2 months of a 18 month contract and really cant put up with this level of service.
    So,
    a) My speed is 4.5 not 6.5 as promised
    b) The normal day speed of 3.5 drops to sub 1mb in the evening and lower than .5 on occasions
    c) Regular loss of service.
I am connected to the main BT socket.
Anyone have similar issues and more importantly is BT support as bad as I am hearing it will be.  Have emailed them about the issue but not heard anything back.. My previous ISP answered the phone after 3 rings .   Why did I change ????????

    Many thanks
we do have extension sockets that are not used and had the ring wire removed.  Would an internal wiring issue be so problematic afte 5:30pm though ?  I woudl have thought a wiring issue would exhibit itself at anytime ?
We dont have a corded phone, but have just done the quiet line test and it seems fine using our cordless phones.

  • Get messagewhen syncing iphone no longer connected or not responding

I have tried to transfer ringtones from my computer or memory stick to my iphone. These ringtones were previously on this phone but are gone. Each time I try to sync them again, I get the message "your iphone is no longer connected or is not responding". It is physiaclly connected so I'm losing connection internally. How do I fix this problem?

If you are using a USB hub for the iPhone, don't. If you are using a front port on a desktop or tower computer, don't.

  • IPhone calendar lost whilst syncing to iMac - help, please!

Whilst syncing the iPhone to the iMac through iTunes, all the calendar entries on the iPhone were deleted - despite everything else (photos, music, contacts) remaining both on the iPhone and were imported onto the iMac. I have now lost my entire schedule, and am desperate for some help. Did the iMac clear the iPhone of its calendar, by replacing it's (empty) iCal contents onto the iPhone? Is there anyway of retrieving the calendar entries? My iMac is backed up on the Time Machine, but so far I haven't managed to find the deleted stuff anywhere!

Ok normally you need to have a bogus entry in both the contacts and the calendar on the mac then sync just those items it will give you an option to merge the data. Unfortunately it's a little late for that bit now as the default is to replace the information with that which is on the Mac. What you can do is connect the iPhone to the Mac and restore from a previous backup this "should" i think have all your calendar/contact entries in it and they should be restored to the iPhone after this if you follow the normal sync procedure to merge the information you should have the contacts/calendars on both the mac and the iPhone. check the following link for calendar/contact sync information

  • New iPhone 5 will not connect to sync

I have a new iPhone 5 I got a couple days ago and it will not connect to sync in my car. I have a Ford Fusion 2012, and I had a 3GS that I used with it, and it worked perfectly for the few months I've had the car. I've tried everything with my iPhone 5 but it will not connect. It doesn't even ask me to put in the PIN. Sync shows the PIN and then I click on sync on my phone and it just sits there for a minute until eventually it says to make sure sync is on, in range and ready to pair. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply. My Mac is running 10.5.8: it's 4 years old.  When I try to update the OS software, I'm told there are none available.
Be careful - there's a difference between update and upgrade.  Your machine is saying there are no updates available, meaning no later versions of OS X 10.5 (Leopard).  However, you can very likely upgrade - at least to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and possibly then to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion).
Updates are free, but upgrades cost a bit.  That's the dirference.

I am facing issues with my music on my iOS device. I have five devices connected to my apple id. And out of which a Windows Machine and iPhone is not able to sync the purchased songs on the the Windows machine and the iPhone. The iPhone4 shows the songs are not supported and on the Windows Machine the songs do not play completely. Can anyone advice what could have gone wrong ? Because rest of the devices are synced to MacBook and they are able to sync the content normally.  I have even subscribed to iTunes Match but the problem is still not fixed.

    Firstly...  a little Clarity...
Devices refer to iDevices... iPod... iPhone... iPad. ..   Not Computers.
Authoriation applies ONLY to Computers... of which there is a Limit of 5 per Apple ID.
If the issue is with iTunes on your Windows Computer... Perhaps you need to Re-install iTunes...

  • "The iPhone (iPhone name) could not be synced because the connection to the iPhone was reset".

This started yesterday at about 10:30am California time and hasn't stopped or been fixed. Whenever I sync or try to backup my iPhone 5 it goes through the process but right when it's about to finish backing up it gives me an error message that says "The iPhone (iPhone name) could not be synced because the connection to the iPhone was reset"
I have tried using a different USB cable, using a different port on my macbook, restarting both my phone and my computer. And nothing works and I have search through about every search engine and this problem isn't to be found anywhere online. Posting my problem and calling Apple support are my last options. Also I am still running on iOS 6.1.4 and have not updated to iOS7 because I want to be able to have an up-to-date backup file in case anything goes wrong. And I don't want to restore a backup because my last actual backup is from a couple months ago. But another thing I don't quite understand is that even though that message comes up, a couples minutes later my iPhone's summary says the last backup was the current time like it actually DID back it up. So my question is if the error message says that it can't be synced then why does it show that it actually did backup? Please help because I really would like to get rid of this problem so I could backup and sync to update to iOS7.

Try TS1389: iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases.

bought a new macbook air because my old computer is formatted. I want to sync my iphone to my new mac, so I can save the data on my iphone without losing data. how can I do?

You need to copy everything form your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  it simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
