A lot of times, it is the cable. However, I had a problem similar to this a while ago and actually had to re-install itunes. See if your cable works with other devices, and then check itunes for needed updates. Hope this helps!

My iPod touch 3g will not charge nor will it connect to the computer.
It won't charge at all. I have no idea how it's still on but for now it is even though it's been saying the battery is less the 20%. It's not the usb adapter/cable, I've tried many. My laptop nor desktop will even acknowledge it at all. I've done resets numerous times and still nothing. I don't know if this means the battery needs to be replaced or not because like I said the iPod is still on after days of not being able to charge.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I forgot to mention the iPod will play on my dock but not charge. I took it in today and it's no longer under warranty so they only offered to take it and give me 10% off a new one.

Possibly faulty charger. The supplied Apple Charger is covered by the iPhone Warranty. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone and Charger to Apple for resolution.

I suppose. I tried with external charger, computer, change the usb port but nothing. But for example when it comes to wanting to restore the registry if it recognizes itune and attempts to restore it but stops and i am getting an error 1602

I think I worked out a solution given my equipment. I was looking around on other forums and I found the following post concerning the ability for iPhone 4S to be on 3G and wifi simultaneously.
"I know this thread is old and op may have discovered the answer already. However, I am posting this just in case someone else might be looking for a solution.
The solution does not require any additional software nor require a jailbreak.
All you need to accomplish this is already built into every iPhone and iPad with 3G.
Connect to your wifi and write down the IP address your router assigned you. Then, select static tab instead of DHCP and fill in the IP address your DHCP server assigned to your iPad. Next, fill in the subnet mask but leave the rest of the fields empty.
You now have access to your wifi as well as 3G.
I ran into this issue when I wanted to use live traffic using 3G for my iPad's GPS and still connect to my GoFlex Satellite using wifi. It works extremely well."
AFter configuring my phone to the router, as mentioned above, I connected my Apple TV to the same router. Using the mirroring option I was able to airplay Netflix, You Tube and Flixster flawlessly from my phone to the big screen. Direct TV and HBO GO did not work however.
I Then tried to access items directly from Apple TV thinking that it could use the data from my phone. I was wrong. So all in all I'm able to stream about half of my movie entertainment applications given my situation. I'm pleased. -

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Because most USB ports do not put out enough power to meet the iPad's minimum requirements. An iPad is best charged plugged into the wall with the supplied charger.

I am having problems with Firefox. When I click on the shortcut, or the .exe file nothing happens. I check task manager to see if it is running and it does not show Firefox is running.
But when I shut down the computer then the browser shows up right before the computer shuts down. I have tried starting the browser in safe mode and the same thing happens. I cannot give any troubleshooting info because the browser is not visible for me to click on help or any other button.Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. I am not having any trouble with my i-pod which I can continue to connect to the computer to update. However when I get into the listen to the music on the computer I am unable to hear anything. This is also true for Spotify, and my own cd's inserted in the computer and i-player. I have connected an old Sony Discman to my amplifier and it works perfectly, so I know that the problem is not with the amplifier or the lead so it must be the computer audio.

Work through the troubleshooting tabs. Does dxdiag report any problems? -

If you have what appears to be a strong signal, but it reports no Internet, then your router is not giving your iPad a connection and the iPad is self assigning an IP which falsely reports a strong signal. Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap the arrow to the right of the LAN to which your iPad says that it is connected. If the IP is 169... then you are not getting an IP from your router. Try resetting the router, updating the firmware or restoring it to factory settings. Some older routers do not like newer machines.
