My iPhone is over capacity after switching to iCloud

After switching to iCloud my iphone is now 13.1 GB over capacity due to 'Other'. Any ideas what 'Other' might be?

Other will include data like, contacts, calandar information, Safari bookmars, notes, e-mail/ attatchments, messaging data, and data stored by a 3rd party app.
Is there data on other devices that is getting coppied accross to increse this threw 'the cloud' ?
Hope this helped,

  • How do i get my apple email to work after switching to icloud?

how do i get my apple email to work after switching to icloud?

I'm on OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) with Mac Mail 4.5.
Will deleting a .mac account in Mac Mail lose all saved emails, drafts, etc? I'm afraid of losing all my stuff.
I just switched to iCloud last night and now I can access my mail only through the iCloud web interface. Mac Mail will not work with my .mac email account. But it still works for my other non-Apple addresses.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • Over capacity after iOS 6 update.

On my iPhone 4 after updating to iOS 6 my phone is showing way over capacity on my first iTunes sync.  The "Other" category is showing over 22 GB.  Even after deleting all music and video it's over capacity.  What can I do?

Once again inconsistent and unreliable upgrades from Apple. The iPhone 4S took a LONG time to boot up, and the only thing I hated about the upgraded features I have tried so far are the MAPS. Horrid.
But, then the iPad 3 upgrade went seemed to go OK but I cannot get past the Step 1 Bakcup process on Sync. It says the iPad is over-capacity by 27 GB or something! Yay... the iOS6 upgrade gave me extra memory on my iPad.
I will try the restart method (kind of ironic to have to do that when we used to make fun of Windows users for having to do that all the time). Maybe Apple should simply have people reboot more frequently.
Using Backup and Restore as a solution would count as a data-loss bug to me.
To show the irrational behavior of iTunes/iPad, the About box in iPad itself shows 12.6GB available on the 64GB device that iTunes sees has almost 88GB.
Disappointing quality at Apple the more consumer focused its products have gotten. On Macs they could always blame external devices, drivers, extensions, etc. for inconsistent behavior. That excuse does not apply to iPad 3 type devices Apple so tightly controls every aspect of.

  • ITunes saying iPhone is over capacity

I have an iPhone 5 16GB and am running the latest version of iTunes on my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro. When I look at the usage section on my phone without it connected to the computer, it says I have 1.5GB available. But when I connect and sync it to the computer, the availability in 'usage' drops to 0 bytes and iTunes says the phone is over capacity by 253mb. Please Help!!!
    Thanks

I found the culprit in my case:  after update to itunes 12 iPhone is X GB over the limit.
Check your sync settings for each type of content in the left sidebar.  In my case I had sync turned off for everything but ringtones.   After iTunes update for some reason the entire music library is set to sync with the phone.  Turning it off reconciled the storage issue.   Perhaps in your case it is some other new content marked for syncing.

  • IOS5 on iPhone 3GS - 'over capacity' unknown used space & can't sync music.

I just downloaded the new iOS5 for my iPhone 3GS, and ever since I got it, I can't sync my music as it says that it is 'over capacity', even though I had over 6GB of free space left before the upgrade.
I also found out that I have 9.9GB of 'other' in which I didn't have before iOS5 upgrade.
I just want to get rid of the 'other' category & sync my music on my iPhone -- HELP!!!

Similar issues as in you don't got your music back on the phone? That's not the same problem or anything "similar" to this problem i must say!
Your problem is simple, you always need to resync the music from your current computer when you upgrade to a new iOS version, most people don't see this as a problem as they simply drag and drop their files to the iphone(or itunes library) or sync from their library if the music already exist in there.
So for you, just find the music on your computer and drag and drop them to your phone if you have selected to handle music/videos manually in itunes when you click your iphone on the summary "page".

  • ITunes shows my iPhone as over capacity, iPhone disagrees (screenshots)

I turned on iTunes Match yesterday on my Mac & iPhone 4S.  I deleted all of the files on my Mac and redownloaded the 256kb/sec versions, and turned off music syncing on my iPhone, sync'd (wiped the music), turned it off, turned it on again, then let it sync all of the music from the cloud overnight.
However, now when I sync my iPhone 4S on my Mac it says that the music has filled (over filled, infact) the iPhone 4S and it's over capacity by 3.2gb with music using up around 10Gb or more of storage, yet the iPhone itself thinks only 5.9gb is in use.
I sync'd it with iTunes again and it hasn't made any difference.
iTunes says 11.8gb of audio and 3.2gb over capacity:
iPhone 4S says that only 5.8gb is in use for music, and 2.8gb is available:
    Any ideas?

I'm seeing this also, on both my iPhone and iPad. I have enabled iTunes match, which has all started up and syncs (more or less) correctly but am getting frequent over capacity messages.
I think it's a cosmetic bug in the iTunes capacity gauge. With my devices, if I come out of iTunes and re-start, the gauge shows the correct capacity. That is, it matches what the iDevice reports.
But when I start a sync, the gauge seems to double in capacity the readings for those files stored in iTunes match.
I wonder if the gauge is showing what is already on the iDevice, PLUS what is available in iCloud?
In any case, it still all seems to work correctly - the iTunes sync runs ok on my Mac, and the device still has the correct amount of capacity available. It's just the gauge showing wrong.
Hopefully a fix will come. It is a bit annoying though

  • Iphone stuck on connecting after switching from Wi-Fi back to 3G??

Whenever I lost connectivity to a Wi-Fi network & moved back to 3G (or Edge), my email accounts (1 exchange, 1 yahoo) will stop sync'ing & be stuck on "Connecting" when I go into either inbox.
Anyone else has experienced similar problem?? Thanks!!

The 5 second button worked fine thanks but I was ages writing a long email using gmail set up in mail and when sending it hung at connecting! Aggghh! So I had to turn off (it was before reading this thread). When I rebooted it hadn't sent or been saved in drafts because it would have to connect to have done that
So I started all over again after retrieving email to make sure it would connect but guess what, same again aaaaaaagggggggggghhhhhhh so I'd been around half an hour trying to send as it was a longish email using the iPhones key pad. To make matters worse it was 04:30 in the morning as the friend I was replying to was in japan and having OCD I couldn't leave it there so I thought sod it and used gmail online to write the email AGAIN.
As far as I can tell Mail as issues sending lengthy emails :/

  • My ipod touch 4g is over capacity after doing a restore as I was advised to do by Apple themselves, what can I do?

My Ipod touch 4g had a high amount of "other" data (over 5gb) I was advised by apple themselves to do a restore and they even talked me through it sayong this would resolve my issue. Now I have even more "other" data and can't sync even one app back to my ipod as it says I am over capacity, can not back up to icloud either even though I have 4.99gb of free storage remainging there. Any ideas as to why the restore didn't clear this data and not only that why did I end up with more than I had in the first place? I can't find any resolutions to this problem anywhere online. Many thanks

Hi thanks for your response. I found a solution by deleting all imessage conversations I managed to free up 2.7 gb of "other" data, I told a friend to try the same thing as he also had a similar issue and he also gained over a gig back.

  • I lost all of my notes after switching my icloud account, is there any way to get them back??

I decided to switch my icloud email to a more frequently used email. After doing this I went to check my notes (where I kept a lot of important things) and found that there was nothing there. It has been really stressing  me out because I believe that when it asked if I wanted to delete the account from my phone, I said yes. I am really freaking out here, and could use some advice. I haven't tried much in fear of making it worse, so the sooner the advice, the better! Thank you so much for the help!

If you backup with iTunes and you restored from the backup and the notes were gone, then there is no where to retrieve them from unless you have another backup that contains those notes.
Launch iTunes on the computer and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices. You will see a window with all of your backups listed in it.
If you see a recent backup that you are certain contains the notes that you need, recover deleted notes from iPhone backup.
I think the suggestions might be of use to you.

  • HT5225 email folders after switching to icloud

my email folders created in me.com don't show anymore in the mail application after I did the switch to icloud, i do see them on the mobileme website but not in my mail application. how do I import those folders to the mail application?

    MARMU wrote:

You need 10.7.2 to run iCloud, but there are ways to manually setup email on 10.6.8, and if you want contacts & calendars in addition to email that also can be done, but not for free.
Here is a how to for mail.
If you want to use the contacts and calendars post back.

  • Anyone having trouble with their MobileMe email after switching to iCloud?

After making the switch to iCloud, I can't access my MobileMe email at all. When I enter my information on my phone to set up the account it verifies it, then when I go to the mail app it says the password is incorrect. When I got to my Mail map on my mac it says the server rejects my password. When I go to the mobile me and iCloud websites they tell me there is an error.

Same here - I had to turn my iphone4 Off several times and finally left if off for a few minutes - that seemed to do the trick. Once I restarted it prompted me to transfer my MobileMe account to iCloud and when I clicked OK it worked like a charm.

  • ITunes refusing to sync (wrongly thinks it is over capacity) after iOS5 update

After updating my iPhone 3GS to iOS5, I started running into a problem (actually many problems like broken 3G internet but not directly related and I fixed those).
What lead to my current sync problem was initially a "An error occurred while restoring this iPhone. (-34)" infinite loop, described in other posts here as a common issue after iOS upgrades going back years (good job Apple). Out of frustration and to get out of it I ended up deleting my backup, which solved the loop but has now left me unable to sync.
According to iTunes, my phone has no music on it, but in fact it has 22 GB of content (out of 28 capacity). I figured since it thinks the phone is empty I'd just resync everything (a very long process, but until I do it I won't be able to sync at all) but after applying my selection for synching (specific playlists, 128 kbps AAC encoding, etc) iTunes fails to sync and tells me my selections require another 15 GB of space, even though the capacity bar for my selection says 22 out of 28 GB used (which is exactly what the bar said before I updated to iOS 5). What these numbers suggest to me is that even though iTunes doesn't recognize my music as still being on my phone, the sync process itself does and is trying to copy 21 GB of data into 6 GB of free space, resulting in the -15 GB error).
Can I make it recognize those files as already being there (to save myself having to copy them again) and if not how can I have iTunes clear files it doesn't report as being present? Preferably without wiping everything else that's on my phone, such as text message history etc.

  • Can no longer sync over wifi after switching router to sitecom

I use iTunes on a Windows PC and have an iPad and an iPhone. I sync these since iOS 5 over wifi. It worked perfectly when I had a Linksys router. I have changed my router to a sitecom because the Linksys was failing. The problem is that syncing over wifi is no longer working.
Technical setup, the PC is connected via network cable, iTunes 10.5, both devices are iOS 5.0.1 and the devices are connected to power when I try to sync. If I sync via usb, it works and as I said, the only change is the router.
I can see the devices show up in iTunes, so that part works. I can click on them and that works, but if I try to sync or select the apps tab, I get a message box saying that the device cannot be found.
I have disabled all security features on the firewall just to make sure none of that gets in the way but nothing. I have nat enabled and can access my PC from the outside fine. If it helps with the research, everything that worked on my previous wifi router works on the new one (including all external stuff through nat) except for ftp. Can't get that working.
I hope you can provide the answer to the riddle.

Minor update:  I have multiple PC's in my office.  This same iPad and other apple devices properly work and sync with their connection to this other computer.  Both computers are running the 64bit iTunes and both have Windows 7 64bit OS running on both machines.  I tried deactivating firewalls and even deleted the iTunes with a fresh installation with no avail.
Something is keeping my Apple mobile devices (iPods, iPads) from being recognized within iTunes.  However, they all are properly recognized by my PC.
