My iphone joins home network, wife's will not

My wife and I recently bought new iPhone 3gs. Mine connects automatically to our secured home network (after I put the name and password into my iPhone).
Set my wife's up the same, but her's will not connect to our home network. Under Settings-->Wi-Fi it shows she is connected to our home network, but it still shows 3G at the top of the phone.
Under the network's info, her IP Address and Subnet Mask are totally different from mine. She has nothing listed for Router or DNS. I do.
Not sure what is going on. We have two iPhones and two laptops and everything connects fine to the router except for her phone.
She thinks she has connected to other networks, but is not sure.
Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

It's possible it could be this problem (if you are running firmware 2.2), which Apple seems to be completely ignoring:

Does your wife's phone occasionally look as if it has a connection, which then drops really quickly. Can it sometimes not even see your home network? And are there times when it just says "unable to connect to {network name}"?

I Can do that for home but not at friends and work places, nobody else has any problem joining it!! I'm wondering if restoring factory settings will solve it but don't really want to do that as its a hassle to reinstall everything for it to not solve the problem!!

  • HT4528 My iphone 4s is connected to my wifi but will not connect to internet

My Iphone 4S is connected to my wifi but will not connect to the internet.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try going to settings>general>reset>reset network settings. Once you've reset your network settings you will need to be able to plug in your wifi/router password to your wifi appliance. (password to wifi router)
    Good luck.

We want to bring back the control over your data access, LeRoyN! Thanks to rcschnoor for offering this support. Also may I ask what type of error messages are you seeing when attempting the connection? Have you been able to connect to these same networks in the past?

    I would
    1. turn off the router for 30sec and connect it to see if it fix it
    2. restart the ipad by holding down the on and home button and use the slider
    3. update the firmware of the router

Unfortunately, your post provided very little information for us to begin to troubleshoot your issue. We only know as much about your issue as you can tell us.
What is the model number of the AirPort Extreme?
What is the model number of the AirPort Express?
    Which device will extend which?
Will the extender connect using a wired Ethernet connection, or connect wirelessly?

Need more information to help you, but I am providing some suggestions.  Sorry if you are past these type of basic things.  But didnt really have much to start with and understand your technical level to start with.
Have you got into Settings > Computers > Turned on Home Sharing (Note: You must use the some Apple ID used by the iTunes library on your MAC for them to see one another)
How is your MAC connected to the network vs the 720 ATV2?  Is one WiFi and the other Ethernet?  Have you tried switching the ATV2 to WiFi if Ethernet?
Has the MAC been restarted since this started happening?  Same with your Router and any other networking device being used?  Sometimes an IP conflict can arise in your networking and most consumer networking equipment does not know how to "self heal" without a reboot.
Make sure you have given those things a whirl and share back your results.  Any other information you can provide, such as how you connect to your network from each ATV and MAC.

Certain wifi's will not work on my iPad, it shows it's connected but will not connect.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I'm having problems uploading video taken with my iPhone 4 to Photobucket.  FB will not accept the file extension which is ex. IMG_423.  They will play on my computer and will upload to Facebook.  Why is the phone taking video with this file instead of something like .mov or mp4.  How can I change the extension after the fact and avoid it in the future?

You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

My iPhone 4s has tured off and will not turn back on I have only had it a week it has been in the Otter box case the entire time. What do I do to get my phone back on??????

You can try to press the home button and power button and hold them for around 15-20 seconds. This will perform a soft reset similar to pulling the battery. If that doesn't help you may need to restore it.

  • Upgraded to ios6 this morning on iphone 4. Now my email will not work and the settings are correct

upgraded to ios6 this morning on iphone 4. Now my email will not work and the settings are correct

Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps that can apply to any iPad issue.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app and restart. In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
None of these things may work, but without more specific information, they are a good place to start.
