My iPhone only categorizies "All Contacts" ...

instead of "All Contacts" with my Address Book groups "Personal Contacts" and "Business Contacts."
I find it impossible to believe that I can create groups in my Address Book but that those created groups fail to display on my iPhone.
How do I accomplish the above?

Thanks for your posting; it helped me troubleshoot my way to a resolution.
Being a new user of Apple's address book application, I didn't know there were "groups" and "smart groups". When I moved my addresses from my Palm PDA to the Apple address book application, I sorted the addresses and "smart" instead of regular groups were set up.

You have exported as an Address Book archive file: you need to select all the contacts and choose to export them as a vCard - this is the only format you can import into the iCloud website.

After upgrading to OS 8.1.3 on iphone 5, suddenly all contacts have facetime and ring on both my ipad and iphone. Went to Contacts and Facetime to Edit and delete, but no field to do so. How can I delete Facetime from all these contacts?

Thank you for your suggestion. I backup on itunes. I went to itunes, deleted syncing my contacts, then re-synced them. But the Facetime capability option continues to be there on most (not all, for some curious reason) of my contacts. I am not sure I posed my question correctly. I want to be able to FT with my family, so don't want to delete the FT capability totally from my iphone and ipad. But I don't want all these other iphone calls from various contacts to ring on my ipad as FT calls. I want a way to select with whom I have FT capabilities. Any further suggestions? Syncing Iphone and Iphone has deleted ALL contacts from Outlook - Help!

I have on many occassions synced my Iphone without issue.
This time syncing the IPhone has deleted ALL the contacts on the hone and WITHIN Outlook.
Can I regain the lost contacts safely from the back up?
I have over 300 contacts and don't want to have to copy them all in manually.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Restore the missing contacts file on your PC from your PC backup.
Or, it you've backed up your iphone to icloud or itunes, you can try performing a restore of the iphone.

Iphone Sync deleted all contacts on google, Mac Address Book and Itunes

I have my phone synced to my google contacts. I did a sync trying to sync itunes, google and my address book and now everything has been deleted. I created a back up a month ago but when I do a restore from back up, it still does not give me my contacts, some how it is still syncing to google which is now blank. It's weird because the restore even gives me texts and photos I had on the back up date but it won't give me the contacts. I have tried changing the settings on the phone so it won't sync to google, I even changed my password on google hoping this would stop teh sync & allow the backup to show my contacts. I have tried using an iphoen extractor as well but since my phone is not jailbroken I am unable to use the file. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Iphone syncs to google contacts but last sync deleted all of them (google & address book). I do have a back up which I know has all the contacts but when I do the restore, it still is syncing to google so I still don't have any contacts. A few days back, it started randomly exiting various apps for no reason. Today, I tried powering off and re-starting, but when it re-started it had erased all contacts.
Last backup was a couple days before, so I won't have lost anything crucial, but this is the first such disaster since bying the phone 3 years ago. What are you syncing them WITH? Do NOT say iTunes. iTunes is NOT a contact manager.
If you're syncing them with your computer, your choices are MS Outlook or Windows Address Book on a PC, and Contacts / Address Book on a Mac.
If you are not syncing your contacts with a contact manager or cloud service, you are NOT syncing your contacts.

Create a group in Address Book only containing the contacts you want on the phone, then choose that group in iTunes for syncing to the iPhone.

IPhone Only Displays 40 Contacts

I recently upgrade to version 6.0 on my iPhone 4 (8GB) and now I seem to only have the ability to have 40 contacts, I re synced with my outlook but same thing, the phone would only display 40 contacts. How many contacts do you have in Outlook? Do you have them sorted into different groups? When you are in Contacts on the phone, can you see a button on the top left to choose groups?

I accidently linked two IPhones and lost all contacts. I removed the one IPhone from the account but everytime one person corrects contacts, it effects both IPhones. How do I stop this from happening?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only restore them from a backup. This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.

Hi, i also having the same problem. On Monday, all of my contacts dissapeared, i was not able to access my calendar and my notes were wiped off as well. I read to restart phone, I did, and it helped. My contacts were restored. Too bad my notes and calendar events did not. At least i have all of my contacts back!

Iphone 4 dumped all contacts

I just got a new (refurbished) iphone4 a few days ago and today it dumped all my contacts. I noticed this when I received a text from a phone number instead of the person's name. Anyone have any advice. Are all my contacts gone forever?

I didn't do that - but I did go in and restore my settings and go to my back up from last week - then it asked to reinstall and I did select the iCloud this time and logged in with my Apple ID and that did the trick. Geez! Thank you
