My iPhone was stolen while in Europe

I put the phone in lost mode using my iCloud, but I am not sure whether to enter an American phone number or a European one. I currently have a European number, and the SIM card in the phone when it was stolen was also European. However, the phone is American, and iCloud did not recognize my French phone number as valid. Which should I enter?

You can add a customized message, so perhaps add both, and even an email address you an be reached at.

If a new SIM is activated on the same account for the same number, any existing SIMs for that number are deactivated.
Why exactly would you care if the SIM in the missing device still works or not?

Shouldn't be a problem, call customer service and they should take care of you.

my iPhone was stolen. I just got a new one and am trying to backup my contacts and data from iCloud. How do you do that?

If your backup is in iCloud, and your new iPhone is already set up, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go throught the setup screens on the iPhone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.  (If it isn't set up yet, just choose this option when setting it up.)
Be sure your iPhone it connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring the backup.

  • Please help!  My iphone was stolen so did restore on new phone and LOST!

Hello fellow iphone users! Please help me. I was on vacation, my iphone was stolen. So decided to buy a new iphone wile on vacation. Couldn't sync/restore my info till i got back home to my computer. So while I was still on vacation I continued to use the new phone and take pictures and videos. So when I got home and restored from a previous back up, it erased ALL MY newest/latest video and pics that I had just taken. Does anyone know if there is a way for me to get those new pics/videos back? They were of great value to me and would be an awful way to end my vacation after my phone got stolen. Thank you all in advance for any guidance you can provide.

When there are photos/videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, your iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
When you chose to transfer the backup for your iPhone that was stolen to your new iPhone, all data on your new iPhone that is included with the backup (which includes photos/videos in the Camera Roll) was replaced by the backup for your iPhone that was stolen. It doesn't merge this data on a new iPhone, it replaces it. Transferring the backup of an existing or former iPhone to a new iPhone is designed to be done as the first step after getting a new iPhone. If not and the iPhone is used for a period of time before doing so, photos/videos in the Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as the first step as with any other digital camera before transferring a backup for a previous iPhone to the new iPhone.
The photos/videos that were in the Camera Roll on your new iPhone are now gone.

  • What can I do when my iPod was stolen while in flight mode?

    Hello,
so my hand bag with my mobile, my camera, some other things and my iPod touch 2G was stolen while it was in flight mode and stupid as I was, after restoring it and updating the iOs to 4.3.1 or so, I didn't install "find my iPhone" Is there any chance to find it via the registered serial number?
Does iTunes save/send the IP-number when attached to a new computer? And if not, why doesn't Apple provide this possibility? It would contribute to the "Find my iPhone" app.
Besides this I have set my iPod to only work with a 4-digit security code, but I've read on the web that it's quiet easy to remove the code and that then it's quiet easy to accsses all the data on the iPod
I'd be very thankful for any help given on this issue, as all my credit and debit cards were in that handbag, my id card, my drivers license, a (to me) very important lucky charm given to me by a person I love and miss so much (that's the biggest loss to me) and the iPod is the only trace I could find.
    Thank you.

    There is not.

It does not.  Only Apple knows as to why they chose not to implement such a feature.

It is easy to remove the passcode, but it requires the user to restore the device to factory settings in iTunes, which would in turn remove all data from the device. It's actually quite difficult to get at data stored on an iPod with the passcode enabled.  You would need to be pretty knowledgeable with the device and how they work in order to obtain any of the data.

The only thing you can really do is change any and all passwords to accounts you may have used or set up on the device for security reasons.  Other than that, I'm afraid you are out of luck.

My iPhone was stolen a few days ago. It appears to be offline on the Find My iPhone app. If the person who has it turns it on only for a brief moment and then turns it off immediately, will the location still be found? Once it returns to being offline will the location still be sent to me? And also, how can I retrieve my pictures from my iCloud?

    Anything is possible.

  • My iPhone was stolen and I have contacted the police who are using the meid number to locate.  How does this work and what are my chances of getting the phone back?

My iPhone was stolen.  I used Find My iPhone app to lock it and display a message.  The phone has not connected to the internet to locate it.  I contacted the police and they have taken my meid number.  How does this work and what are my chances of getting the phone back?  Are there other ways the theif can use it.  I was told once they put in a new sim card and use it, whatever software the police have, it will show up.

Honestly? In the US (I can't speak to other countries, though I doubt it works much differently in a lot of the world) The police took your report and filed it either in their computers or, on paper. They will now not think of this again. The only time it will cross anyones mind is if, in the course of entering information into evidence about items recovered or seized at a crime scene, the serial number of an iPhone that was found/seized happens to match yours, in which case you will be contacted.
The police in the US can and will do nothing to 'blok' the phone and it's not worth their time to try and locate it unless you know for a fact that it was stolen by a big time drug lord, master criminal, or some other such prime target and they can get a court order to track the location of the phone in order to locate this individual for your own purposes.  If they do that, they'll probably keep him under surveilance for a year or so before they act.
Basically, the police don't care about your phone. If they find it, they will give it back to you. They are not, however, going to go looking for it. They have better things to do.
I'm sorry, but that's the way it is.

  • My iphone was stolen and we actually recovered it!  Is there a way I can tell what the thief might have looked at in the interim? I know about hitting the home button twice to see recently used apps, but what if they then swiped to close them?  TIA

If you have a backup of the old phone that backup contains camera roll photos.  Restore from that backup to get your camera roll photos back

  • HT1414 my iPhone was stolen but I got it back. Now I can not activate it coz i don't have the Apple ID nor the password from the thief. How can i log in my own Apple ID to activate my iPhone?

    Hi,
My iPhone was stolen before, but luckily i got it back.
Now i cannot activate it with my own Apple ID because the system kept asking me to enter the previous user's Apple ID (yes, the theif)
So I cannot use my iPhone now.
Please kindly tell me what to do and how to do it. I want to use my iPhone with iOS 7!!
    Thank you.
    JiayiLi

Doesn't matter. And if they have any property at all, it's worth the $50 filing fee for small claims court in most places.
If nothing else, filing could force Apple to disclose the email address and other information that was used to activate the stolen phone and lock it, leading to the identity of the thief or someone else involved in the crime.
For me, it would be well worth the $50 even if all I got was an attachment of future wages. Since i don't have the legal right to just shoot the bastage, it's the next best thing.

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

A month ago my iPhone was stolen, I turned on Activation Lock but it never came out BUT an hour ago somehow my apple ID was changed and someone removed from the account both my iPhone and iPad and the iPad was also remotely wiped. As soon as I saw it I recover the password and return the access to my iPad. But iPhone is not registered for my apple ID any longer. Can Apple help me somehow? I have all the documents and the iPhone box. Will they lock the iPhone and return me access to it. I'm sure it's been attached to another apple ID.
PS. the apple ID I'm using on the discussons is not the hacked one.

Try contacting the Apple account security team and ask: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699.

You have to reset the device to Factory Settings in order to restore it from an iCloud backup. You probably want to back it up as is before you do this.
To do the reset after you have backed up the current device, go to Settings>Reset>Reset all Content & Settings. This will erase the device. If you are signed onto iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on, go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom to sign out of iCloud before you do the reset.
Once you have reset your device, you will set it up like a new phone. When it asks if you want to restore it from an iCloud backup, select the backup you want to restore it from.
    Cheers,
