My iPhone was unlocked. Now is stuck in recovery mode. How do i backup my files before I restore

my iphone 4 was unlocked (w/ no sim in it of course). i tried to update my iphone to 6.1.3 & in the midst of doing so, it brought itself to recovery mode. i'm ok w/ restoring it but how can i get all my pictures & videos off of it (if that's even possible).
*might i add, i'm going to be a college student next year & i took pictures of all my documents i'll be needing so I REEAALLLLY need these pictures.

Once iPhone is in Recovery mode, data is invariably lost. Backup is required to be done before starting Restore. Sorry.

yes i am sure. This are the exact words... "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full. (Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space". i tried some options, hard reset, redsnow, tinyumbrella but still it's stuck.

You can try doing a power recycle by pressing on the home button and sleep wake button simultaenously.
This will shut down the device you then may press on the sleep wake button to attempt to restart the device. This may or may not resolve the issue.

try a different cable a different usb port, drop all security software and fire wall, try a different computer here are the steps
recovery mode
open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not iOS device
turn device off
hold home button and plug cable into IOS device. do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on IOS device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

i have an iphone 4s stuck in recovery mode, i have tried restoring in recovery and dfu mode, i have also tried custom ipsw's and still nothing, first it was returning a 21 error now its returning a 2001 error! really starting to fustrate me now!

I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

Got my iphone sceen replaced by a local guy... iphone 4s is only 4 months old.. got the mobile back and it had no signal so i went to do a restore on the iphone and it came up with Error-1 and is now stuck in recovery mode.. tried everything possible, New computer.. updating itunes etc... Error -1 is most often failure of the iPhone baseband chip. You are correct about warranty lapse, however Apple Genius can be very helpful. Let them try to Restore the iPhone at the Apple Store. See if they have fix for Error -1. Make Genius Reservation so you can avoid long wait.

These errors mean that your device or computer might have a hardware issue that stops the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't blocking your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Make sure that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

Stuck in recovery mode and need to backup.

My ipad 2 is stuck in recovery mode after trying to update to iOS 6, didn't back up before, can I backup or exit Recovery mode someway to make a backup?

Sorry to say, no, you cannot take a backup with the device in this state.
Check the following:
1. Did you have photo stream enabled? If so your pics are backed up at apple and will download when you sync.
2. All of your apps are still in the App Store under 'purchased' and 'not on this ipad'
3. If your music etc is still in iTunes then this will sync when you restore.
The only thing you will loose without a backup are your settings, email, cal and (I think) address book. (Among app specific data stored locally)
If you sync an iPhone with iCloud then your contacts etc will be available.
If you are stuck in recovery mode your can only do this to resolve the issue. Apple cannot help.
Do this:
goto http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/02/download-ipad-firmware-ipsw/
and download the firmware for your ipad model. if (like the rest of us) you do not know which ipad 2 you have, then download the first IOS 6.1 ipad2 file following these steps and if you receive a message saying "not for this model, or not compatible" then try the next file.
small warning, this is a total factory restore so the downloads are around 700mb each.
1. open itunes, ipad disconnected.
2. connect ipad
3. warning restore message appears
4. (windows users) HOLD SHIFT and click the restore button. This should open a dialogue box allowing you to navigate to the file you downloaded. Select the file and hit ok.
5. this should start the manual restore, if it fails, download the next file and repeat.

Does he have a backup on his computer or iCloud?

Have you tired starting all over again forcing the iPad into recovery mode? Turn off your firewall and antivirus software and see of you can start the process all over again. Quit iTunes and restart the computer before you try again.
Here are the insturctions to manually force the iPad into recovery mode.

Post back with any error messages and your results after you try again.
