    dfu mode
How to enter iPhone DFU mode
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black
Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).
Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.
    Exit DFU mode on iPhone
The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.
And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPod touch.

  • Had to crash my computer. Lost my recovery key. Have my iphone paired with previous install. is there any way to get the data back?

In order to upgrade my computer from Windows xp to Windows 7, I lost access to firefox without thinking to generate a recovery key. Is there any way to get my data back?

If the only thing you have paired to the account is an iPhone the answer is that unfortunately no. The iPhone client (Firefox Home) is just a "consumer" of the Sync data and can't do much.
My best advice is to keep the iPhone synced to have access to bookmarks and manually transfer them to your new profile.
Sorry to be the carrier of the bad news.

  • HT6058 iPhone put into Recovery Mode after updating to 7.0.4, and now iTunes can't restore it from my computer. What do I do?

Once my iPhone 4 updated the iOS to 7.0.4, it immediately went into Recovery Mode, with the iTunes symbol. I plugged it into my computer, and it says I need to restore the iPhone. I click Restore, but in says it can't connect because of my network connection. I've followed every troubleshooting issue from the support section related that issue, but it STILL won't connect and download the recovery.
What do I do to get my iPhone fixed? And why did 7.0.4 cause this?

Don't worry about that. iPhone stuck in recovery mode always happens when you update the iOS on your iPhone. There are two ways to solve it.
First is is to put your iPhone in DFU mode.
    Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the Power and Home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the Home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it’s in restore mode.
If DFU mode can't solve the problem, I'm afraid the only solution is to try some 3rd party software, like iPhone data recovery or something like that. You may simply try the tutorial here: How to Fix iPhone that is Stuck in Recovery Mode.

  • IPhone 4s went into recovery mode while updating to newest IOS

While I was updating my iPhone 4 tonight to the newest IOS, it stopped and gave me the 'this iphone is in recovery mode' messagae and the only option was to restore it to factory settings.  I am running the newest OS on my imac 10.9.2 and my iphone is not jacked.  I bought it from Apple/AT&T and it has only been backed up to itunes via my iMac since I bought it.  I am frustrated but at this point, I'll never know what caused this.
When I clicked restore, the screen said it would erase all data and load the newest IOS.  Assuming it is a successful restore, can I sync my iPhone to my last back up to get all my data back?  If not, what are my options?
    thanks for any help.

  • Why did my iPod touch go into recovery mode when updating to iOS 8.1 over the air???

I was updating my iPod touch (5th Generation) to iOS 8.1 over the air update option and my iPod goes into recovery mode...I hadn't backed it up in like 2 weeks and a lot happened in two weeks with photos and everything. I have yet to see if I get any of them back but why did this happen? I thought apples over the air update was reasonably easy and secure...?

Hey Haywards, There has been reported issues with updating iPods to iOS 8, one of which is updating with the cloud or through Wi-Fi. Your seeing one of the problems. After you get things cleared up with the DFU recovery, connect your iPod with your computer via the cable and run the update through iTunes. You should be OK. Or if still an option, don't do the update at all! Many have reported several issues with iOS 8 on iPods. Slow or laggy operation, missing apps, missing music, camera roll not working or missing and huge battery drain and charging issues, just to mention a few. You may want to hold off from updating if possible. Things to think about. Good luck, Cheers.

  • I HAVE A IPHONE 4 AND I DELETED VIDEO . IS THERE ANY WAY OF GETTING IT BACK

HOW TO RECOVER DELETED VIDEO ON THE IPHONE 4.

Please turn off your caps lock.
All caps indicates shouting, is considered rude, and is difficult to read.  Many will not read such posts.
If the video was on your iphone at last sync, then you may be able to restore from backup.  Otherwise, it is gone.

  • Fix iPhone 4S in recovery mode after updating from IOS5 to 6.1.3

How do i get my iPhone 4S out of recovery mode without losing all my data? I am not very tech savvy and too scared to do anything without instruction. My phone went into recovery mode when updating from IOS5 to 6.1.3 (or whatever was the latest yesterday). Oh how I wish I hadn't. I think I want my IOS5 back!
Can I use Google Maps on 6.1.3?

Okay I have read that info but the iTunes sreens I am experiencing has different messages.
1st = iTunes has dectected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore the iPhone before it can be used in iTunes.
2nd = iPhone is in recovery mode. Restore
3rd = Are you sure you want to restore the iPhone "iPhone" to its factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased, and the newest version of iPhone software will be installed.
iTunes will verify the restore with Apple. After this process is complete, you will have the option to restore your contacts, calendars, text messaes and other settings.
.. now will my music, apps and photos be saved too? Here are the three messages.. you can see that the iTunes settings/screen configuation is not like those in the tutorial in the link. There is nothing in my "summary" and no restore to back up shown at this point. So I am wary to proceed.
Thanks again to my helpers. Also I don't mind if the whole update was aborted.

  • IPhone 5 going into recovery mode when trying to update iOS 7

My 5 went into recovery mode when trying to update to 7.0.2 OTA. At first I was like ok just a glitch. Well trying to update to 7.0.3, it did it again. So right now I am again in the process of restoring and updating my 5.
    What is going on?

because I'm an idiot.. of course.. All my other over the air updates have worked, I had a good wifi connection, knew I had a backup, and was desperate to get past the initial bugs I've been experiencing..
I downloaded iTunes on my work PC, enough to get it going again, which I bascially had to do twice.. iTunes didn't find a backup and said that iCloud didn't have a backup, even though it did.. So, it did a basic install of iOS 7..  I then erased all settings from the iPhone itself and when it restarted I chose to restore from iCloud which the phone was able to find..
Have not seen anything better.. I've had a couple random reboots. Once when swiping the Starbucks notification on the lock screen, the phone immediately crashed back to the apple boot screen.

  • My iphone 4 went into recovery mode for some reason and it is unable to be restored. any ideas how to fix this?

my iphone went into recovery mode for some reason and is unable to be restored. it wont turn on and when plugged into a charger it shows a usb and itunes symbol. so i plugged it into my mac and connected to itunes then itunes said it has detected a phone in recovery mode and needs to be restored. so it goes through the restoration process for a couple minutes or so then stops and says itunes is unable to restore because an unknown error occurred (2001) or (2006) and other times i try it says its unable to restore because itunes cant detect the device... any ideas how to fix this?

Errors 2000-2009 (from Apple support): If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
2001: Use up to date software. Make sure your device is in DFU Mode: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
2006: Use a different USB cable. Possibly the one that came with your iPhone.

my iphone went ino recovery mode when i was trying to back it up. Its recognized but when i try to restore it i get an error message, did i lose my data?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Try DFU mode and then try to restore.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
