Try rebooting. Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPhone should restart. See if you can use it when it comes back up.

The side switch is the key. Depending on your settings, it may affect the mute or it may affect the rotation lock. This support article from Apple provides detail.

In case you're wondering, here is the history. Originally, the mechanical switch affected only the rotation lock and the mute was a software switch elsewhere. In IOS-3, it was changed to be the mute switch and the rotation lock became a software switch. This was done to ensure consistency among IOS devices. Unfortunately, a large quantity of users complained loudly, alleging that they turned the rotation lock on and off several times every hour and the convenience of the mechanical switch is essential. In IOS-4, Apple bowed to the whiners and made the switch function selectable and now we're stuck with a mess.

If you're using Windows try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall the latest version of iTunes. You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

I got an iphone 5 today and tried to sync to the cloud with the apps from my iphone 4. Syncing happended but I cannot open an app on my new iphone 5 for more than second then it closes. I have restarted the phone, added a new app that required my itunes password and manually added each app. None helped. Can you help me?

I have an iPhone 4s, and I reset the content and setting. It turned on, I chose English, Australia, and now, I am unable to connect/activate my iPhone through Wi-Fi, and for an unknown reason, it will not allow me to use cellular data or iTunes. In order to download to your phone over the air, you need to be connected to WiFi.
It's possible the Internet connection through Verizon is not stable enough for the downlaod to begin (it is a very large download).
You might want to head over to Starbucks with your laptop for the afternoon and see if you can download it over their WiFi. -

Please don't tell me to retry, or re check my information because it is all correct, it basically says u cannot use thi account due to it being connected to another device... which is my old fault iphone, at the apple store.I have never before heard of cards being locked to a single device... but your case has shown me that it happens.
If I am getting it right you try to log in to your account and it asks for billing information, and when you enter your card details it tells you that the card cannot be used. I am having the same issue. After hunting around on the community boards for a while, I noticed that ZoneAlarm Firewall came up fairly often as causing issues with syncing. I re-activated the firewall that came bundled with my less-than-a-year old Windows 7 pc and completely uninstalled ZoneAlarm. I dragged and dropped one of my playlists to the iPhone 3GS and then most of my music then came back, but I am still unable to get all my custom ringtones (created in i ringer) to reload. I've tried dragging and dropping to no avail (I use "manually manage" because I add audio books from the library).
Others have posted these same issues and the odds that we are all doing the same exact wrong thing seems astronomical - there must be an issue with the latest firmware update. Different iPhone versions, different OS on computers, PC v Mac - all having problems after the latest update. Coincidence? Hmmmm!
If you do have ZoneAlarm, it might be worthwhile to change that... -
OXS server 3 with mavericks, it will not load up the assistant with open directory and will not allow me to use old opeopen directory and will not allow me to use old open directory it was not a clean install just upgrade. any help or advise appreciated as i really need the server.
I wonder if the disk being referred to is actually your iPod which is not plugged in. Maybe something has stuck thinking the iPod should be there.
Try completely removing all the iTunes related programs according to this method.

Restart you PC and see if startup improves.
If it doesn't improve you need to consider the possibility that there is something else going on.
If The problem goes away, hopefully a fresh install will be OK. -

What kind of peripherals are you connecting? Sometimes if an external device is drawing too much power, then it will shut down one of the USB ports. Make a test connecting two usb flash drives, it should work ok.

Please help me. I recently got a new laptop fro Christmas and i have begun to sync all my music and apps etc onto my new laptop. However, music that i have previously purchased on my iphone will not sync to my current laptop. I have tried 'transfer purchases' but only some have transfered, i still have over 200 songs to import and they won't transfer from my iphone to my laptop. Please help, it is very irritating. Thanks.
Unless the iPhone was purchased as unlocked very recently directly from an Apple Store (the only place in the US where unlocked iPhones are sold, and then only since June), which from the symptoms I doubt is the case, then it was locked to AT&T and jailbroken to make it work with an Irish cell carrier. Updating the operating system has now relocked the iPhone back to AT&T.
Only the cell carrier can institute an official unlock, one which will hold across updates of the operating system, and AT&T will not do so for any reason. All we can advise here is that you return the iPhone to your uncle and purchase an iPhone there in Ireland.
