Why am I unable to send email when away from my home wifi ? I am able to receive mail OK, and have double- checked the outgoing server which is correct. This problem is consistent with my Macbook Pro, iPhone, and iPad2.
Attempts to send messages results in them sitting in the Outbox and never- ending 'sending message' displayed.
I am able to send using my me.com server.

All of a sudden, my iphone will not send email to AOL. It says user name [email protected] is incorrect. I have rebooted, reinstalled and changed password that works fine on aol, still receives mail but will not send.

It looks like your SMTP server setting for AOL is wrong. I think it should be smtp.aol.com.

To Avoid Relaying:
If you are sending an email from, say, [email protected], but the return address is [email protected], that is relaying (you are using y.com's servers to send an email where the email "originates" from b.com). Many servers don't allow relaying to prevent spamming.
To make this work go into the email account settings, tap the account "button" that has your email address, go to the Advanced section in "Mail" if there is one, then go to "Outgoing Mail Server", tap it, and then tap "Primary Server", and in the Outgoing Mail Server enter your user name and password. It may say optional, but you need this.
Not all services provide this and the sequence of buttons I describe above may not be exactly the same for each address (look around if different). If you can't set the user name and password, then that email service does not provide a way to get around relaying.

Sounds as if you have a POP email account. If that is the case, then deleting the account and adding it back deleted those folders. They will be recreated as needed. As soon as you send an email, the Send folder will be created. As soon as you delete an email the deleted folder will be created, and the same with saving an incomplete email will create the draft folder.

My Original iphone will not send email!!!

I can't seem to send email. It keeps saying senders address was invalid. I am trying to send a test email to myself so I know the address is not invalid. I have checked all the settings and still can't send. Any help would be great.

This error message is not accurate. This means the internet service provider being used for your internet connection at the time is blocking the use of the account's SMTP server used to send messages with the account.
Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the internet service provider being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated with a user name and password. Being connected to AT&T's cellular network is no exception in this regard.
If this account is provided by your internet service provider used at home, most internet service providers do not have an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide, which means you will only be able to send messages with the account's SMTP server when connected to the internet with the internet service provider that provides the account such as when connected to an available wi-fi network with the internet service provider that provides the email account being used as the internet service provider for the wi-fi network you are connected to.

It now states it was rejected by the server. This message just began today, prior to that there was no message and I would have no idea if an email was sent unless I looked at my sent mailbox.

I can send emails from my iphone when I'm at home, but not once I have left the house. I get the 'sending' bar at the bottom, but nothing ever happens. Any ideas?

When at home connected to your wireless network?
If so, is the email account provided by your internet service provider at home?
If yes, most internet service providers don't have an authenticated SMTP server with the email account they provide which is the problem.
Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP unless the SMTP server is authenticated, and AT&T is no different in this regard when connected to the internet via their cellular network when sending email.
AT&T's SMTP server is included as an available SMTP server to select/use for an email account when connected to the internet via their cellular network if an email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server. This should work when connected to AT&T's cellular network but may not work when connected to your wi-fi network at home with your internet service provider being used for your internet connection.
I access two email accounts with the iPhone's Mail client. Both accounts have an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had any problems sending with either account regardless the internet service provider being used for my internet connection at the time.

I have to turn off my phone everyday as I fly and i need to recieve messages when my phone is turned on if this isnt resolved quickly I am going to have to switch from Apple but I dont want to...

Hmm, that is strange that your phone number is greyed out. There are a few things that we can try. First would be to turn iMessages off, then back on. See if you are able to select your phone number. Then if that doesn't work, turn iMessages back off, then reset the network settings....settings>general>reset>reset network settings, this will reboot the phone. Don't worry, it won't delete anything from the phone, it simulates a battery pull. Once the device comes back on, then turn iMessages back on. Keep us posted if that works!
