Just in case you are not running iOS 7 and don't have the control center feature.....
If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it and you are running iOS 5 or 6, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left.
If you are running iOS 7, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the control center and the lock icon is in the row of icons at the top all the way to the right.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

Try ejecting your iphone from iTunes and then close iTunes. Now retry. Hope this helps.

Goto Settings-Privacy-contacts. Turn on Whatsapp if it's OFF. YOu might have clicked do not allow contacts when downloaded OS6, I did the same thing. Then goto favorites in whatsapp and REFRESH. Contacts in chat and fav come right back

TThe first thing to do is check, as Dilbert41 mentioned, whether the Rotation Lock is on. if you see the circular arrow around a small padlock at the top right of your screen turn it off using the Control Center. If the Roation Lock is off try a reset of your iPad. Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

Iphone 6 not going to landscape mode while in messages

For some reason when i try to type in landscape mode phone will not go to landscape more I have to close the app multiple times just for it to happen. Also bluetooth not working with any devices. And for some other reason while on FaceTime other people are saying my picture on there end was upside down.. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Indeed the option to lock to portrait mode is not on in the control panel. The behavior of switching from portrait to landscape works fine in my hand, it's when the phone is in a holder that it does not detect the orientation and adjust accordingly. The iPhone 5 did this with no problem, but on iPhone 6 any app that allows landscape mode starts out in portrait mode and then does not automatically adjust. Rather you have to move the phone back into portrait mode and it's that motion of being re-oriented into landscape mode that finally triggers the switch.

What troubleshooting have you tried? Try a reset, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone should reboot. If it does not, then you need to try and restore via iTunes. Try connecting the phone to the computer and iTunes and see if it is recognized. Double click the home button, swipe to the right until you see the play controls for music, right next to it is the icon for the screen orientation lock. Tap on it to unlock the screen again, your icon in the right corner will be gone.
tap on the home button to close the multitask bar again.
Troubleshooting Rotation Lock
If your iPad display does not rotate as expected, verify that Rotation Lock is off:
Check the status bar for the Rotation Lock icon.
Toggle the Side Switch to verify that the device is not locked.
