My iPhone won't backup

Since I updated my iPhone 4s I have not been able to back it up to iCloud, can you tell my why?

Can't tell you how it happened, but trouble shooting it usually involves starting by deleting your existing backup and trying again.  If that fails, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device on the Backups list, then turn off a number of your apps so they aren't included in the backup (tap Show All Apps to access them all), then try again.  If it succeeds now, start turning them on a few at a time and backing up.  At some point you will probably be able to identify the offending app and exclude it from your backup.

  • IPhone won't backup during iTunes sync

Hi!  The last few times I've synced my iPhone 3GS in iTunes, it won't backup.  I get an error message after it goes through the other steps to sync apps and such. Normally the backup is step 1, then it does the other steps, but now it's skipping right to step 2 and then when it's finished gives me this message:
"iTunes could not backup the iPhone "Debbie's iPhone" because a session could not be started with the iPhone".  This is something I've never seen before.  Is there a fix?  It's making me nervous not having a current backup.
    Thanks, Debbie

Thanks, i've tried that already. It initiates the backup, but seems to backup one tune only, not the apps. The process takes less than a second, telling me that the apps did not transfer.

  • IPhone won't backup in iTunes (Apple Support says it's Windows related and won't help)

My iTunes freezes constantly and mine and my husbands iPhone's have stopped backing up in iTunes. I get an error when it does go through the process that says "iTunes could not back up the iPhone " 's iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer". Two updates ago, to iTunes and Safari, is when this started happening. Apple support had me do a few things to see if it was iTunes/Safari itself but none worked so they finally told me to get support for Windows. Some of the things I did was Reboot, reset the iphones, create a new windows user account on the computer, uninstall and reinstall all Apple products on the computer. I tried the Windows/Toshiba forums and they seem to believe that it is indeed an issue with Apple's software and not with my computer since it was working fine until an update was done to iTunes/Safari/iPhone.

Nobody here can help you as we are not Apple. We are users like you. If Apple support told you that it is a hardware problem, then take it in to an Apple store or authorized service provider.

  • My iphone won't backup even though I have plenty of icloud storage

I just recently brought more iCloud storage because I was out of iCloud storage.  However, my iPhone 4S still won't back up.  I show that I have 15 GB of storage and 9.4GB available.  I also show that my next backup size is 5.5 GB.  Why is my phone not able to backup?   The "back up now" option is blacked out and the message shows "this iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enought iCloud storage avaiable."   But I should have plenty of storage available.    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for your help!

It's probably refering to your iPad and not iCloud.

  • IPhone won't backup after iOS5 update

I recently updated my iPhone 4 using a friend's computer to get the new iOS5 update. Long story short, my computer has ruined 2 iphones attempting updates, therefore I used another computer. I had to delete all of my data in order to receive the update from a different computer so when I brought the phone home to put all of my data back on the phone, it froze on step 2 out of 8 (backup). I've even left it plugged in all night and that doesn't work. I have talked to the apple support line three times already. They've suggested that I disable antivirus (didn't work) and also completely uninstall iTunes and reinstalling (also did not work). Someone please help me! An iPhone that won't hold my own music, apps, videos and photos anymore is 100% WORTHLESS!

If you are using a Mac, go to Settings>Software Update ... check for any updates, and update all.
Chances are you are not using iTunes 10.5, which is required to sync iOS 5.
If youare using a PC, suggest you uninstall your iTunes, download fresh iTunes 10.5 from Apple.com/itunes and install it.

  • IPhone won't backup, but no error message

    Hi!
I got a message this morning saying that my iPhone hasn't been backed up in 3 weeks. I thought this was odd as I have it set to automatically back up, but I plugged it in today, connected to wifi, and tried a manual backup. I'm not getting any sort of error messages, but when the backup seems to be finished, I still see "Last backed up to iCloud: 12/17/12 at 10:06 PM." According to my phone, I still have 3.9 GB out of 5 available in iCloud storage, and I can't think of what the problem could be. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Sydney

    hi eric,
thank you for your quick answer! what the console says is the following (extract):
Post-back up thinning complete: 5 expired backups removed
    Backup completed successfully.
    Starting standard backup
Backing up to: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb
No pre-backup thinning needed: 1.13 GB requested (including padding), 206.20 GB available
Copied 744 files (2.7 MB) from volume [myvolume].
No pre-backup thinning needed: 1.13 GB requested (including padding), 206.20 GB available
Copied 67 files (93 bytes) from volume [myvolume].
    Starting post-backup thinning
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/[myvolume]/2011-10-05-170346: 206.20 GB now available
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/[myvolume]/2011-10-05-110315: 206.21 GB now available
Post-back up thinning complete: 5 expired backups removed
    Backup completed successfully.
Actually, this time it really backed up my data … but why now and a few days ago it didn't? (Console also says "Backup completed successfully." for this date.)
Hm anyways, seems to work now, but I don't like the thought that I can't rely on it … would like to understand what this machine is doing … :-)

  • My iphone won't backup ro my laptop anymore

Well I'm trying to backup my iphone of the same laptop I've been using for years. Now its giving me a message saying "This iphone can not be backed up on this computer" Why is that ??

Is that the error you're getting?

  • Iphone won't backup because storage is full

I had an iPhone, but I dropped it in the toilet, so I got a new one. I got all of my information onto my new phone from iCloud. Ever since then, a message pops up every night saying my phone can't be backed up because my storage is full. It never said this on my old phone.
I asked someone at the apple store and she said my icloud is full because it has information from my old phone, and now this phone, so basically it's storing two phones. She told me to delete my old phone from iCloud. How do I do this?

They were talking about deleting the backup of your old phone from your iCloud account.  If you don't need the backup any more, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your old phone on the Backups list, then tap Delete Backup.

  • IPhone won't backup

I tried to backup my iphone 5 on iTunes but brings up a message saying "iphone could not be backed up because an error accured".My iPad backed up normally please help!

I'm having a similar problem trying to install OS 4.0 - iTunes begins the process of backing up my iPhone, but the little blue bar gets about a quarter of an inch along and then just stops. The graphic is still animated, but other than that no progress. I have left it for nearly two hours - and no movement at all. Any clues anyone?

  • My iPhone Won't Sync with computer. It used to; but it doesn't now. I don't have iCloud. When I try to sync I get a message that reads: iTunes could not back up the iPhone "owner's name appears here iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on compute

Why won't my iPhone sync with my computer? When I hook the phone up to iTunes I get a message that reads: iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the backup could not be saved on the computer. This never happened before.

    Hey Janice Lucoff,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing issues backing up your iPhone 4s in iTunes, which is causing issues finishing the sync of your device. The following resource should help resolve your issue, as it refers to the exact error message you described:
iOS: If you can't back up or restore from a backup in iTunes

  • My iPhone won't back up to iCloud it says backup failed after I increased my storage plan. How can I fix that and which email can I sen to if I want to refund the storage I bought on iCloud. It says I have 15 days to return.

Which email should I send to for a refund on iCloud storage within 15 day period. Also the iPhone won't back up to iCloud it keeps saying backup failed even when I log out of iCloud and log back in how can I fix that?

If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • My work issued iphone won't restore the backup. New password twist!

My work issued iphone won't restore the backup. I get an error that my password is wrong. I tried variations of all recent passwords. Checked various threads and saw one that suggesting to use the "Change Password" feature under "Encrypt iPhone Backup" as a faster way to find your password. After a few wrong attempts I then successfully changed my backup password and wrote it down!!
Now when I tried to restore my backup with my shiny new password I get the same error that "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "my iphone" because the password was incorrect"  The "Encrypt iPhone backup" option is checked and grayed out. I assume the fact its grayed out means its a policy set by my company. I cannot uncheck the "Encrypt iPhone Backup" option. My company IT helpdesk can't help me as they say they don't set a password or force its encryption. The phone has Mobile Iron 5.7.4 app installed as a corporate requirement.
Any ideas? I am using iOS 6.1.3 and I will not update it to iOS 7 since I cannot restore my backup. Learned this the hard way when it wouldn't restore after the iOS 5 to iOS 6 update. I have an iPhone 4s.
    Thank you,

This is a problem.  We also set a policy which requires users create a backup password.  That way if they salvage their computer, someone that buys it at the Thrift store won't be able to access what might be company data.  The problem is that the password is only required one time, when the initial backup is made, and it might be a year or more before you need to use it to do a restore.  Here is an article which may help out...at least with some ideas on password ideas...http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
If you can't remember it, you can always transfer your content to your computer, music, apps, photo's etc, then setup the device as new and transfer the content back.  This won't allow you to get various settings, and points on games, etc, but at least you will have the really really important stuff.  If you are connected to an enterprise mail server, that will restore all of your mail, contacts and calendar.

Should I delete the accoutn on my phone an dstart again? Will I loose all my info in my Itunes account?  Please help!!! This is driving my crazy!!!

  • Just replace my HD, restored from backup but now my iPhone won't sync with iTunes over wifi

Just replace my HD, restored from backup but now my iPhone won't sync with iTunes over wifi

Is synching over wi-fi viable?  I've never done it, but when I tried something similar back in the old Palm PDA days, it was S-L-O-W, slow as molasses.  I realize that the i-device are far more modern with faster processors, but wondering whether it's even worth exploring doing this.
