My iPhone4 takes hours to sync with iTunes.

My iPhone4 used to sync in only a couple of minutes. Then it started taking several hours. The header in iTunes said it got to step 5 of 5 and was importing photos. I tried deleting all of the photos from the iPhone and the syncing problem went away. I checked to make sure all of the file extensions were the same and deleted the big files but when I put the photos back on the iPhone, the problem returned.

Delete the iPod photo cache, as described here:

You will need a SIM to activate it. There is no way around that. The SIM does not have to be active, but it must be from the correct carrier if the phone is carrier locked. Once activated, it can be removed and used like an iPod touch, but if you ever have to restore or update iOS, you will need the SIM to re-activate it.

  • Question about ICloud. Do I have to back-up my iPad and iPhone4 b4 sync with iTunes?

Question about ICloud. Do I have to back-up my iPad and iPhone4 to iCloud b4 sync with iTunes? Last time I synced iphone4 with iTunes, I updated to 5.0.1 when I connected, but it wiped my calendar entries. I had to reset to the last date I had synced (4months ago). So my question is... Now that I have iCloud, should I back up both my iPhone and my iPad before I sync with iTunes?  And will all the data from iPad, iPhone, and computer all merge when the iPad and iPhone are synced?

    It does not matter.

  • IPod classic is slow to sync with itunes stored on WD 3TB Mybook Live

    Hello!
My itunes library is stored on a 3TB WD Mybook live external storage device. Ever ince I moved all my itunes media to mybook live my ipod classic takes forever to sync with itunes. Prior to mybook live I had all my media stored on a WD external storage unit without any problems.
Has anyone else experienced syncing issues with an ipod, etc with WD mybook live?
    Thanks!

I'm having a similar problem. I connect my iPod to my computer, iTunes recognizes, says do not disconnect, synching iPod, but it takes forever, even though I only have like 2 new songs in iTunes. Running iTunes 7.1.1 and 60GB iPod.

  • HT1386 I have a new Iphone 5.  Have downloaded 6.0.1  am in the process of syncing with itunes and it is taking hours to sync.  I do backup to the cloud.  I synced my iphone4s to computer prior to plugging iphone 5 so the latest data would be on system.

I have a new iphone 5.  Trying to sync with itunes on my computer.  Prior to plugging in new phone i made sure my other phone had synced with computer so all data was current.  My old iphone does sync with cloud.  When i plug in my iphone 5 for syncing it gets to step 5 and continues on for eternity...it has never completed syncing.  This has been over a hour.  Any ideas...ps old phone 4s backed up to cloud also and syncs would only take a minute or 2.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.

  • My iPhone4 will not sync with iTunes,

my iPhone4 will not sync with iTunes, but Windows Explorer (Windows7) recognizes the iPhone is connected and will download photos from iPhone.
When I look at the Settings-General-iTunes Wifi Sync, it says "Sync will resume when "PC" is available."
    More details:
I have three iPhone4 phones. 1 of them will Sync with iTunes, but the other 2 have this problem where they will not Sync.   All 3 phones recently were able to Sync, like 10 or 14 days ago.  I am Sync ing them all to the same PC and iTunes account.   No idea what has changed to cause 2 of the iPhones to be unable to Sync.   they both have the "Sync will resume when "PC" is available" message under the Wifi Sync menu.

You say your phone will not sync but then you say, "when it does sync."
Does it sync or not? Did you remember to select music to sync onto your phone before clicking on Apply or Sync?
You do have to have iTunes on your computer in order to sync your phone. And your music must be in iTunes.

  • Every time I sync with iTunes, certain apps copy over

Every time I plug my new iPhone 5s (7.01) into my MacBook to sync with iTunes 11.1, the Pages app starts to copy itself from iTunes to the iPhone.  However, it's already installed on the iPhone.  Upon every sync, it copies over again and again... this is a pain since it takes a long time to sync now because of this.
Actually, this was also happening with Numbers, Keynote, iPhoto and iMovie, but I totally removed these.  Pages will be the next to go if I can't get this sorted out.
I've been syncing iOS devices with iTunes for years and have never seen something like this before.
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

    msteinny,
So i went to the apple store to meet with an apple genius to ask him why my phone's time kept moving up 1 hour everytime I synced my phone. Well he said that he's never seen this problem before, and after a trying a reset and restore he let me exchange my phone. The problem is that when I went to sync my new phone the problem still persisted. They told me it was probably something to do with my computer and its time zone settings.
So I get home and click on my computers clock in the bottom right hand corner to bring up the date and time properties and sure enought my time is correct, the date is correct and the time zone is correct (Eastern Daylight Time). So I look through the different tabs (Date & Time, Time Zone, Internet Time). The first thing I tried to do was to change where my computer syncs its internet time. It was originaly set on NIST time. I then switched it to Windows time, but this didn't do anything. My clock would still change when I synced to itunes. The next thing I tried was fideling around in the Time Zone tabs. I noticed that the box that says "Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings" was unchecked, so I checked it and my computer's time jumped an hour ahead. So I left the box checked but moved my clock one hour back (to the correct time), clicked on apply and left it at that. I synced my iPhone and voila! The time didn't change! It stayed on the correct time! To to make a long story short, make sure that you computer's clock is set on "automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes, make sure your time zone is correct, and that the time is right when that box is checked. I hope this helps you. I'm glad I got a new phone out of the deal;)

  • IPhone 4s reboots many times when trying to sync with iTunes

iPhone 4s reboots many times when trying to sync with iTunes.
Since IOS 8, my iPhone 4s reboots many times when trying to sync with iTunes on my Mac. It will start running the backup and reboot, it will reboot many times when updating packages. It can take 12 hours to finish a sync with the mac. The phone gets hot during this. I keep deleting more and more pictures and apps, hoping that maybe it doesn't have enough space, but iTunes shows I have 4.9 Gbytes free, which I think should be enough.  I am on IOS 8.0.2, I thought maybe I would try to upgrade to the latest IOS today, but I am worried that I will end up with a non working phone.
Is anyone else having these problems?
    Ed

Well thats Od... I have never experienced that problem.. Maybe you should try to backup your phone and then wipe it by going to Settings<General<Reset

  • Contacts deleting by themselves and iPhone needs a full backup restore after refusing to sync with iTunes. - Pls Help!

I have had my new iPhone 5s since the middle of December 2013 and I really enjoy it, however, I'm finding the iOS a little unstable.
I backup often - whether to iCloud or to my iMac at my office or to my Acer Windows 7 based Notebook at home, and I have had to do a full backup restore of my phone software after it suddenly refused to sync with iTunes. The only option open to me was "Restore iPhone" which also is a nuisance and takes a little while if you have a lot of content on your phone. I've had to do this 3 times now and it's getting on my nerves!
Also, as I type this, my contacts are suddenly removing themselves from my phone book. I discovered this as I was going through my Whatsapp messages when I noticed a few numbers in my recent chats that didn't have names or contact pictures. When I scrolled to the top of the message, I noticed that the "add contact" detail was suddenly available. I immediately checked my phone book and noticed that those contacts are no longer available. A lot of my numbers are suddenly showing up like this within the last hour and I haven't changed any settings at all. I back up to my notebook and iCloud once a week. This problem is a first for me  as well.
I must point out that I never had these issues with my iPhone 3GS which was only becoming cumbersome due to its outdated OS and because of its processing speed.
Will I need to wait for the next IOS Update to solve this problem, or will I have to find an alternative solution?
Any advice you have to offer would be most welcome.

Simplify your question, will you? I have trouble in reading such a long English article.

  • With iCloud activated on iOS devices, how do I manage syncing with iTunes?

Guess it's time to take a class at the Apple Store (there's an app for that)
    Two Questions:
    Question 1
I have turned on iCloud in my iPad and iPhone5 for contacts, calendars, reminders, Safari, Passbook (iPhone only), and Find my iPhone/iPad.
I am not using iCloud for backups, email or photo stream because for many reasons I choose to avoid WiFi.In the iPhone User guide (page 57) it says, "if you use iCloud to store your contacts, calendars.....don't also sync them to your device using iTunes."
When I set up the devices in iTunes, i checked "Automatically sync contacts, calendrs, bnookmarks, notes and email."  Now I want to modify that setup.  However, if I simply plug in the devices to the computer I'm going to get an automatic sync and I understand that can unnecessarily duplicate data.
    How to resolve this?
Can I just turn OFF the iCloud features on each device, attach the device to the computer, and reconfigure iTunes to stop the auto-sync of the contacts, etc.?  Then after ejecting the device, I turn the iCloud features back ON?
    Question 2
I've been downloading apps, music, and books in iTunes and then syncing them to my devices.  How does this change with iCloud?
On each device I've gone into Settings-Store and activated Automatic downloads of Music, Apps, Books.
Now, when I go to my PC and log in to iTunes to order an app, book, music, do I still have to attach each device to the computer in order to obtain the downloads?
What about apps I obtain directly from a device?

For your first issue, without connecting your iPad open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences and on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  This will disable automatic syncing when you connect your iPad, allowing you to change your settings without syncing.  Next, connect your iPad, click on the name of your iPad on the left side of iTunes and to to the Info tab and uncheck the data you no longer want to sync with iTunes (such as contacts and calendars).  When done making you changes, click Apply at the bottom (this will sync your phone with the new settings).  If you prefer, you can then go back to iTunes preferences and re-enable automatic syncing.
You will continue to sync your iTunes media such as music and apps with iTunes as you did before.  These are not stored or synced with iCloud (although you can redownload media purchased from the iTuens and app stores in the future if you need to; however, this has nothing to do with your iCloud account).
If you have enabled automatic downloads for your Apple ID, when you purchase apps, music or books in iTunes using this Apple ID it will automatically be downloaded to your iPad.  If you purchase them on your iPad, they will be automatically added to your iTunes library when you sync your iPad.

  • Please help! I can't get my iPod to sync with iTunes on my PC?

This problem is really frustrating and I would really appreciate some guidance because I'm completely stuck. I have been trying for many hours over the past few days to get my iPod touch to sync with iTunes on my PC. When I plug my iPod touch into my PC, iTunes opens up and this message pops up:
"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I have completely removed iTunes from my PC several times and reinstalled it several times but this message continues to pop up and its really annoying because I can't put my music onto my iPod. I have followed instructions on the apple website which were to temove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel and then restart the PC and reinstall iTunes again. I've tried this several times and it simply didn't work and the error message continues to pop up when I plug my iPod into my PC. I really need to know what is the software required so that I can use my iPod with iTunes on my PC. I can't explain how much I'd appreciate help with this. Thanks in advance.
Do I need to install software on my iPod or on my PC? :S

Two ideas, but what version of Windows? what versions of iTunes? did you manually remove what the uninstaller left behind as outlined in Apple support article?
Did you upgrade to iOS 5 or not? what version? what about your iPod Touch model?
    Backup its backup. Backup content.
USB is directly connected to a motherboard port?
Have you had to restore the iPod?
Also, many have pointed finger at Apple Mobile Service needing to be restarted first, then launch iTunes and then connect iPod.
Create a new Windows partition and use that to do a clean install and for testing. Always works.
Some security software. Microsoft Security Essentials does an excellent job, free, works.
I have not read or seen "the req'd software is not installed" mentioned by others, but could easily miss (new to iPod + iTunes myself and there were so many threads when iOS 5 came out).

  • Can't sync with iTunes because of a internal error

I was doing a restore of my iphone 5 because none of the art work matched the song or the artist....All was fine I was downloading my Itunes Library from the cloud and all the sudden I got a error saying I cannot sync with itunes due to a internal error now its stuck I cant get in...
Please help these problems I never had until iOS 7 this downloading from the cloud requires a large bit transfer ..I feel it would be good to have the option to be able to download itune the old way by syncing with you computer via USB for individual song the cloud is great but large files take way to long and that's were the errors occur..
Also I'm in Bahrain were cell, wifi data transer is not as good as some places in the world...

This seems to be a commom problem. Mine occured in the middle of updating to the IOS 5. It didn't do it to my daughter's but it did it to mine & now whenever I try to sync or backup it constatantly says to delete old backup & that it's corrupted. Well I tried the deleting & The encrypting with the password & it still won't backup my phone & still says that same message. You would think Apple would give this help free automatically when they do an update!! I should have just left well enough alone I guess. But if anyone has any advice on how to fix it without deleting all my content (which is a lot), I would greatly appreciate it~!
