You could use a third party app on your computer, that uses the iPhone as just an external disk.
There are several like iExplorer, Diskaid, Phonedisk, etc.

  • My iphone was dropped into water and now is frozen on the initialization screen. I would like to retrieve the photos from it before I send it back to the insurance company. Any advice?

I have already tried to upload the photos through a computer that does not have iTunes installed because I am afraid that it will erase everything that is already on the phone. However, it states that the DCIM folder is empty yet the device only has 12 GB of memory free on a 40 GB so obviously there is data on the phone. My Verizon rep recommends just plugging it into iTunes. I have one computer that has not updated to iOS5. Any thought? Thanks in advance.

  • A iPhone 4S (currently in possession of it) was dropped into the ocean and we can get it into DFU and recovery mode, but we can't get it to go to the lock screen or home screen the phone just gets stuck on the apple symbol, how can I fix this?

Hey, apparently this iPhone 4S was dropped into the ocean and the light for the camera and a light where the 3G/4G bar is are both glowing. The iPhone 4S, I assume, was on iOS 5.1.1 I need help getting off info from it WITHOUT RESTORING IT. I'm not sure if Apple has any third party apps that they are allowed to suggest to us or if I'm on my own on this one, but if you guys can help I would greatly apperciate it.
    Thanks!

Those are definitely features of liquid damage. First step after completely drying the iPhone would be battery replacement. The camera circuitry and proximity sensor circuitry are surging because you are seeing these lights.
New battery may get this booted back up so you can recover data, or even get the iPhone working again.

  • My PowerShot SX170 was dropped in water

I have a PowerShot SX170 IS. It was dropped in water for 4-5 seconds, but it didn't go all the way under and the lens was above water. It was off, and I immediatly took it out, took the battery and sd card out. I put it in a bowl or rice for 28-30 hours. I recently took it out and put the battery (fully charged) back in and turned it on, but it wouldn't work. Is there anything at all I can do to save it?

It really does depend what water he dropped it in!
Sea is salty, salt  conducts electricity, my thinking here if it got onto the circuit board or any electrical contact it could cause a leak, a resistive leak - not a water leak.  Maybe a few 100K ohms or less, this would be enough to upset the apple cart and cause digital circuits to 'latch up'.
Salty water can eat away the protective  lacquer on the circuit boards then eat away the fine copper tracks, it would cause severe contamination to them.
Also water can ingress by capillery action.
Apart from what has been suggested to letting it dry out the only option would be to send it in for repair, then there's the question is it worth it.

  • How do I fix a phone that was dropped in water

I dropped my Iphone 4 in water i retrieved it in seconds and put it in rice. Is there any thing else I can do to dry it out and what is the chance that it will work?

Remove the battery from the device.  This is critical, and do it as soon as possible, even if you are not going to follow this technique, this is your best chance for device survival.
Find a container slightly larger than the device that will hold liquid.
Remove battery covers and other compartments so you can be sure to get into all areas of the device.
Place the device in the container and fill with Isopropyl alcohol (80% or greater) completely submerging the device.  Jiggle the container around a bit to make sure the alcohol gets in there well.  You may need to weight your device to keep it submerged.  I would suggest a 5 minute period of soaking, you can vary the time based on your results and optionally repeat this step if you are not successful.
Remove the device and put it somewhere to dry for a few hours.   Q-tips and a hair dryer are helpful to speed up the process.   BE ABSOLUTELY SURE THE DEVICE IS 100% DRY.
Reassemble your device and hopefully you are good to go.
NOTE: all you're doing with the alcohol is helping to get the phone dry.  The alcohol mixed with the minute amounts of water in the phone will evaporate more quickly than the water would by itself.  The point is to get the phone dry.  You could also just skip the alcohol and disassemble as much of the phone as possible and use a hair dryer.
Moisture in itself will not damage electronics if they are powered off and there is no power supply connected.  What you are hoping for is that during the brief period of time when the phone was still powered on with the battery connected and it was exposed to water/moisture that a short did not occur damaging the circuitry.  There is a good chance this did not happen if you pulled out the battery quickly.

  • How could i fix my ipod mini drop into water?

please help how could i fix my ipod mini dropped into the water.

There is no "true" fix for liquid damage.  It has been suggested by many to put your device into dry rice for about 3-4 days without trying to do anything on it....do not even power it on.  Once a device has liquid damage, it is just a matter of time before it has a failure.

  • IPhone 4 was dropped in water.  Need to have it repaired.  Where???

Take it to an Apple store. They will replace it for $149. It isn't worth repairing if it got wet.

  • I have a macpro, it was dropped in water, when  I let it dry out, it did not start up, is it dead?

I have an Mac book Pro.  My niece dropped it in water, and now it will not start.    Is it dead or can I fix it.  I get an light when I touch the power to the book, but it will not start, I thought about replacing the magnetic plug.  any help will do?

trying to dry it out and turn it on was a bad idea.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Ipod Touch 5th Generation 32 Gb was dropped into toilet 3 days ago, has been sitting and occasionally tried to be turned on. Any way to save it?

3 days agoI dropped it in the toilet and then immediately dried it off. I tried to plug it in to my computer to back it up but no go. For the first ten minutes I tried turning it on and off but it would not work. I decided to let it sit and hoped it would work eventually. Now it does nothing. 2 days ago it would make sounds on the lock screen but wouldn't show anything on the screen and when it was connected to my computer at this time my computer said it was malfunctioned. Is there anyway possible to save it now? Or can I send it to Apple to have it fixed for a fee? If I do will it still have all the memory, data, songs, and apps? Sorry for all the questions any information will be helpful.

Place it in a sealed container with uncooked rice for 5 days or so and change the rice periodically.
    Then as necessary:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iphone recently got dropped into water what do i have to do to get a new phone?

I was running out to my car after work today, when my iPhone fell out of my pocket and landed in a puddle. I need to know what I have to do to get a new phone. I looked up my serial number to see if I am still under warranty, and i bought the Protection Plan through apple which changed my one year warranty to a two year warranty instead. Being that I am still under warranty, will iPhone replace my phone? I was under the impression that no matter what happened to my phone, if I purchased the AppleCare Protection Plan, that Apple would take care of me. Anyone have any ideas? My phone is working fine other than the sound. When I make a phone call I can't hear anything through the ear speaker. If I turn the speaker phone on, I can hear it but it's not very loud. Or when I go to play songs, they won't play. The volume button has completely disappeared. Someone please help? I can't afford to buy a new one, and would really appreciated it if someone had an awesome clue as to what they are doing. Thank you in advance!!
    Ana

Water damage voids your warranty and AppleCare Protection Plan.  You can bring your phone into Apple for an out of warranty exchange for $149.00.

  • How do I save an iPhone 4S that was dropped in water for just a few seconds?

My iPhone landed in normal tap water and was in there onlyu for the few seconds it took me to get it out. I let it dry for a bit and tried to turn it on, the screen flipped open for a fraction of seconds and went black again. Then for a while I could see foggy glass on the phot-eye and the flash light was on. Now there is no more damp on the photo eye and no flashlight on, it won´t go on and nothing moves. I am not in the country where I bought it and cannot reach an Apple store easily. What do I do?
    Thanks!

You most likely shorted the battery doing that. Your warranty is now voided, so a third-party repair shop "might" be your best option. Although, if you go that route, you will forfeit the right to an out of warranty replacement. I doubt you can get an out of warranty replacement unless you go to an Apple store in the country of original purchase...cost would be US $199.
Sorry, but your options just are not good.

  • Is it possible to save an ipod that was dropped in water months ago?

A couple months ago i bought a green gen 7 ipod nano. About two weeks later i dropped in the toilet. I now realize that this was a stupid thing to do but i turned it on and off. I then put it in rice and left it for a couple months. I just took it out today: Won't turn on and heats up when charged. Is there anyway to save it? I heard of soaking it in rubbing alcohol might this work?

Not sure if this means anything but the screen was glowng when turned off.

  • HT3964 i have a iphone 4 that was dropped in water for a short period of time. it then was put in rice to dry it out. and now i'm trying to restore the iphone and it will not restore. what do i do now?

i would like to know what i need to do?

If the iPhone was in water, the dry rice for a week trick sometimes works, sometimes does not work.  If it does not work your only choice is to take it to an Apple store genius bar and see about a replacement.  For an iPhone 4 the out-of-warranty replacement is $149 in the US.
