The camera is not so much of an issue here as making sure that you get the right glass(lens) .
Both Nikon and Canon have specialty lenses to allow Macro (1:1 or lifesize or greater magnification) images to be made.
I would also recommend that you get a good tripod and focusing rails to mount your camera on as most macro photography is best done using manual focus and moving the camera.  This is due to the fact that macro lenses have a very shallow depth of field.
If you don't want to go to this extreme, then at least get a small sturdy tripod and always use a remote shutter release.
All of this is related to DSLR's.
If you want to go the PnS route, then look for one that emphasizes its macro capability and again, use a tripod.  Again, the lens is the most important item here.
Actually, no - lens is not the most important - coins are highly reflective and as a result VERY difficult to light properly - the lighting equipment is going to be the most important.
Lens will be second most important - you can probably do fine for coin photography with one of the common pseudo-macro lenses that only do 1:2 and not 1:1.  However a true 1:1 macro lens will give you the most flexibility.
Since the lighting equipment is the most important, the key here is going to be that the camera has support for an external flash.  This is guaranteed for an SLR but rare in P&S cameras.

  • PC-CAM 600, freezes when taking regular camera pictures - too dark

I just started having this problem. I'll take a picture and it freezes and won't even let me shut the camera off. When it actually does take a picture - in plenty of light or with the flash inside, the pictures are so dark i can't make them out.
When i am on yahoo instant messenger (which is the only way i can even use my camera anymore it seems) the picture quality is perfect.
My system crashed a week ago and i also lost my web cam center software but i can't seem to get a hold of anyone at support that can send me a new disc. Its driving me crazy! If anyone knows what i can do, please let me know!

  • IPhone 5 flash on camera stopped working when taking photos & poor quality photos

iPhone 5 camera flash  stopped  working when taking  photos and poor Quality photos . Flash still works when in torch mode .

    Hey there Jimbo,
It sounds like your flash has stopped working on your phone and you noticed a decrease in image quality.
I recommend a few troubleshooting steps here. Start with closing the running apps on the phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone and test it again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:

  • Why does my iphone camera now delay when taking a photo?

I have had my iphone for almost one year now.  Recently, I've noticed that when I press the shutter button, there is a delay before it actually snaps the picture. Which can be tough when my subjects are usually my children who do not stay still long enough to capture the moment!!

Double tap the home button. Then you'll see the  apps that are currently running. close all all by holding any of the icons for two secs and tapping the red minus sign. then try it again.
If this doesnt help, do a hard reset by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and home button together until the apple logo appears.

  • Camera app freezes when taking a picture.

Almost everytime I try to use my iPhone 4 camera, it freezes.  If I'm patient enough for the app to launch, pressing the camera button deosn't seem to snap a picture for up to one minute.  The whole phone locks up until I hear the snap shot.  At one point I thought it was an issue with the GPS tag but even turning that off resulted in the same stalling.  There's nothing more that frustrates me about my iPhone than this.  Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be?

Unfortunately, your naivete about complex electronic devices has misled you into a common misconception that Problem A = Cause B = Painless, no-effort, Solution C.  It's all magic to you.
Virtually any problem can have a multitude of causes, if for no other reason that you have incompletely described the total state of the phone.  More broadly, your camera problem is being caused either by corrupted code and or settings, of unknown origin, or a hardware issue.  There is no way anyone determine psychicly.  The only way to find out is the standard troubleshooting steps developted by Apple, and described In the User Guide.
it's taking more than half a day to put a big bandage on the wound and hope it fixes it.
Nonsense.  1-2 hours tops for 2 restores.
This has been a problem with the phone since the day I bought it.  It can occur everyimte I use the camera app for a week then not happen as much for a couple months.  In the past year, I have restarted, reset restored, etc several times and I still have this problem
You oddly failed to mention any of that in your initial post, and instead endowed us with whining about your frustration level...  You didn't mention doing ANY of the troubleshooting steps you now describe.  Yet another example of entitlement trumping logic.
The bottom line:  Restore the phone as new (without restoring the backup), if you haven't done so already.  If that doesn't work, you need warranty replacement of the phone.

  • Moto X Camera App Crashes When Taking Movies

Recently, the camera app has started crashing whenever I try to take a movie with my Moto X.  Has anyone else been having this problem?

I'm also having this problem AND a coworker is having the same issue.  I called motorola and they suggested starting in safe mode to determine if a 3rd party app was effecting the camera, but it crashed in safe mode too.
Anyone have an answer to this?

  • Help!!! iphone 5 rear camera blurry after iOS 7.0.6 update.

Help!!!! I just updated my iPhone 5 software to iOS 7.0.6. I realized that my rear camera became blurry. It won't focus even if I tap in the middle. There are no physical problems with the camera itself. I checked. Plus the camera is quite fine when the object is near but it can't focus on objects 2 feet away. What should I do?

If the issue reappears, try the same steps.  Also, you can try restoring as a new device: iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If the wi-fi remains greyed out, your device needs service.
If within warranty, it should be free.
If not, it will probably cost $199 USD + tax.

  • Blurry photos using rear camera

Photos shot with rear camera are blurry. I used grid and tapped to focus - no change. I've cleaned lens and even tried a reset. Still blurry. Any suggestions?

I am having the exact same problem. It started after I installed 2.2 on my 3G and upgraded the Itunes to the latest version. Running XP Pro with SP3. I have tried everyhing I know and can't fix the problem. I have another PC that runs Vista and just for fun I opened up the Camera function on that computer and attempted to delete the photos and it worked fine.
Looking at my event viewer it appears that the error has something to do with Windows Image Acquisition service (dll) System 32 Generic Host processes, or SP3. I did notice a message that flashed on my screen for a millisecond which also said something about another program using the application. That came when the icon showing the camera attaching to the computer usually shows up. Also, the same reboot happens if you dont use Camera Wizard and go directly to my computer, Iphone Camera, and then attempt a delete from there. I hope someone from Apple is seeing this. This is very frustrating. I just want to go back to 2.1 and the previous Itunes version. I can love with the other problems that were manifest in 2.1.

  • On my ipod 5 I went onto my camera and my back camera worked then when I flipped to front it turns blurry. And when I go to apps such as Vine it doesnt even have the flipping camera button! please help

My ipod front camera goes blurry when i flip it from back camera to front camera! and when I go onto vine it doesnt even have the camera flipping icon!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Red Camera Light when taking Video

    Dear All,
I know this has been discussed many times but I just want to check whether is there any way or nokia have any intention to solve this issue of having the red indicator light when taking video/picture.
I do understand is for privacy issue and have no regards in shutting off simulated camera shutter tone when taking video and picture.
However problems comes in when we try to take video/picture through windows and we see the red reflection light instead, and we are not able to capture our young children without them staring at the red light.
Do advice, im using a nokia 6710 navigator by the way
    Regards

well, i got a 6120 classic- video camera is not the best in the world. what i have found- in during the day and just for more colorful photos it is better switch a Sunny mode. but every thing goes wrong with the video.
and during the night it is better not to shooy at all.
some people told me, that the panel of a phone and the  transperent part of a camera is not of the best quality.
i even tried several programms for photo's quality development- no use.
the example of on my honda's board in the night- i guess the topic starter is talking about this effect.  http://xcuber.com/photo/kiilo89/1/1 - this is an xcuber account- there are 4 photos in that album. except one all photos shooted at night with the light source.
    can it be fixed somehow?
