My iPhoto 9.5.1 will not open on OS 10.9.1

When I attempt to open iPhoto 9.5.1 on OS 10.9.1 I get the pinwheel for about 5 minutes, afterwards a popup window appears saying iPhoto unexpectedly quit.  Below are the details.  Can someone please help me out?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • IPhoto 9.5.1 Will not open, I am running OS X 10.9.

iPhoto 9.5.1 Will not open, I am running OS X 10.9.
I was trying to delete a photo from iPhoto and it would not delete. I then deleted the one photo out of the library folder.
From that point on whenever I try to open iPhoto it tells me I must install "iPhoto library upgrader."
I installed this and now it just keeps telling me the same.
I then deleted iPhoto from the computer and reinstalled it from the apple website. And it was giving me the same errors again.
I followed the advice on this form and downloaded iPhoto Library manager. When I click rebuild library, it says , "The album data file for the library “iPhoto Library” could not be read. The file “AlbumData.xml” couldn’t be opened because there is no such file."
    Any ideas?
Why is it so hard to delete a photo from this new version?
    Thanks for your help

From that point on whenever I try to open iPhoto it tells me I must install "iPhoto library upgrader."
I installed this and now it just keeps telling me the same.
Now you have to go to the Applications/Utilities folder and double click on the updater to actually run it.
Deleting a photo from this version is exactly the same as other versions.

  • IPhoto (9.5.1) will not open in OSX Mavericks

Grateful for some help. A few months back we had to take our Mac into Apple store because TimeMachine wasn't backing up. They ran loads of diagnostics and said problem was a corrupted OS. We backed up everything and they loaded OS X Mavericks on for us. They then re-loaded everything from our back-up. Everything seemed to work ok except Iphoto which would not open. We called the Apple Support people who talked us through some steps. They couldn't identify the problem but said they could solve it by creating a second iphoto library (2). They did this and whilst it opened ok all of our old folders had disappeared.
However now (few weeks later) iphoto will not open at all. I have tried to access it through the desktop, Applications, finder etc but no joy. I've read through various community conversations and see that there has been problems with OSX and iphoto. I've tried downloading Library Manager Upgrade 1.1. but when I try to run it says my version of iphoto doesn't need it.
    Details:
    iMac 27" Mid 2011, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 (13C64)
    IPhoto V9.5.1
    Any help please!

    Try this:
From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. Unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old).
Credit to user photosb189 for that.

  • IPhoto 5.0.4 will not open

Accidentily posted this in the iPhoto 6 forum . . . oops.
Recently, there was a power outage while I was downloading photos from my camera to IPhoto. I have iPhoto 5.0.4. As a result of the outage, when I attempt to open iPhoto I receive this message, "Photo library was created in an unreleased version of iPhoto. Quit and upgrade library to iPhoto2 or iPhoto4." I can't access the library via iPhoto because it will not even open.
I tried repairing the disc permissions in the disc utility, but it will only verify disc. I have deleted all of my photos from my pictures folder, and I still get the same message. I have no idea what to do now.

I am not sure what may have casued this problem but you can try this: hold down the "Option" key while opening iPhoto. You should get a dialog box that gives 3 options, Quit - Create Library - Choose Library, if you can make it to this point, you can try navigating to your HD > users > pictures > "Library" or simply creating a new one, since you deleted the pics already. You may also need to reset the the SMC on your iMac G5 after the power outage...

  • Iphoto has crashed and will not open.  Can I reinstall Iphoto without loosing my existing photos?

Iphoto crashed and will not start.  How do I save my existing photos and videos and reinstall Iphoto?

reinstalling will not cure this - you need to rebuild your library- Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
And the ONLY way to "save" your photos and videos - and every other file on your computer - is to always have a good current backup - sooner or later your disk will fail and with no backup you will lose everything

  • IPhoto 9.2.1 will not open library and closes unexpectedly.

I upgraded my iPhoto on my iMac a while ago to version 9.2.1, but up until recently have only been using my Macbook Air. When I tried to open iPhoto, the error message "iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your library, click repair to resolve these issues" (thats the gist anyway). When I hit repair the process is completed and iPhoto appears to launch, then it "Quits Unexpectedly. I have tried moving the location of my Photo Library and choosing this new location when prompted and the result is the same. Words of wisdom would be most appreciated.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • My iphoto cannot update and will not open

I got my computer from someone else and they had their email in for most of the updates. My iphoto being one of them. When the update came out your'e forced to update to open it again, but I am unable to because the previous owners email and password is stuckinthe option to update. How can I change the update to be on my apple ID. Or how to just open my iphoto without updating.

The previous owner should have erased the computer and restored it to the original state, she or he purchased it. This document describes how to transfer a Mac -see the link:  What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
Software bought from the App Store is inherently associated with the AppleID of the person who bought it and must not be transferred to a new user.
Any software you are using, that is associated with the Apple ID of another person, is pirated software, and you are not entitled to use it or update it. You will have to purchase your own copies of the software, if you want to be able to update it.

  • IPhoto in my doc will not open up

and if I try to open it thru the Application file in the finder I get

Log out and back in; if you can't do this from the Apple menu for some reason, save all open documents in other applications and use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process. You will then either be returned to the login screen or logged back in depending on whether automatic login is enabled.
That error code means that the application you tried to launch wasn't completely quit the last time it was used.
