My iPhoto application rebuilds each time I open it. How do I avoid?

Each time I open iPhoto warning appears...need to upgrade library...then inconsistencies appear need to rebuild etc. etc.  But nothing changes permanently.  Why not?  How to fix?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Beachball in about 7 seconds each time I open iPhoto '09

My mac crashed yesterday while I had iPhoto open. After this, each time I open it, it freezes and I get that nasty beachball. I tried to do some research to see if I could avoid asking any questions, so I:
-moved the cache to the trash and emptied
-moved the preference file to the trash and emptied
-used iPhoto Library Manager to repair
-created new Library and tried to move original one into it
Any way I slice it, iPhoto freezes and I have to force quit.
    Please help me troubeshoot (fix).
    Thanks!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Does the new library work if you just import a few photos at a time? It if does then the original library is damaged and may not be repairable. If the new library also crashes, etc. log into another account on your Mac, create a test library and see if iPhoto will launch and work as it should there. If not then a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder before installing iPhoto.
If iPhoto works in the other Mac account OK your primary account is the culprit. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Have to manually select my network each time I open an application

We recently upgraded to an Intel iMac from a G3 iMac. Everything transferred great using the migration assistant. Our only problem is that we have to manually select our home network each time we open an application such as Safari. Once connected everything works great. It's a minor inconvenience but one I'd like to fix. Probably it's just a simple check box somewhere but I haven't been able to find it. Thanks in advance for any help.

In the Network perference pane, under Airport, there is a setting that should read "By default join preferred networks." Beneath this setting, there is a list of preferred networks. Make sure that your home network is listed first, and/or delete all others (if any). Also, make sure that the setting "Disconnect from network upon logout" is not selected.

  • IPhoto message each time I open the app...

Everytime I open iPhoto I get a message like this: "6 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported. Would you like to import them now?" I click YES everytime, but still keep getting that message each time I open the app. What can I do to stop getting that message?

I also get pop up messages when I open iPhoto - in my case 10,000 photos not yet imported, do I want to import them now etc.
I have tried to follow your advice but when I control click on my iphoto library in Pictures folder, I don't get the option to "show package contents". Im using iPhoto 6. Can you suggest any further options for me?
These photos multiply whenever I try to do an import from my iPhone - iPhoto crashes in the middle of the import, So the number of "unimported" photos leaps by two thousand or so each time.

  • Adobe lightroom asking for serial number each time I open it. Any suggestions?

I just downloaded Lightroom 5 and updated to 5.7 when prompted on completion of the process. I now have to input the serial number each time I open the programme. Is there any thing I can do, restarting the installation for example, to try and get round this problem?

I have the same thing happen to me. Every time I start Aperture, it asks for the license. Once I have entered the license key it lets me use the application. However, the next time I use the application again, i get the same problem. I have tried reinstalling the application, and am asked for the license key at the beginning of the install and again once the package is started. To no avail. And I get no other messages.
I called Apple Support, and after booking a call with a support person (a Genius?), I got one who, after reading the summary of my problem in the service request, said simply "this is for Aperture? Aperture is a Microsoft product, you have to call Microsoft". And that was that.
    Please, anyone have any ideas?

  • Installed ScanSnap and now receive a request to change my harddrive each time I open a pdf.

I recently installed a ScanSnap and it changed my Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional to the point where each time I open this program or even a pdf file, I receive a User Account Control warning message asking whether the "Adobe Acrobat application program can make changes to the hard drive on this computer."
Any way to fix this so I can open up both program and pdfs without this warning?

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad.

    Solved it!
I added a proxy "PAC" file web link yesterday to access my University's intranet system within "System Preferences" and once I removed this, iTunes started working again.

  • ¿What I have to do to avoid or prevent iTunes to auto configurate or autoselect as default media player each time I open it or connect my iPod?.

    Hello,
For years I use in my computer Windows Media Player and/or Media Player Classic to play my music and video files and I know quite well all their operation options. My problem is that since I install the iTunes program, mainly for servicing my iPod Touch, every time I connect my iPod to the PC or open iTunes, the iTunes program without any warning or authorization auto configurate as default media player overriding my Windows and Classic Media players, so each time  I have to open iTunes and go to the Advanced Preferences Menu and unselect the option " Use iTunes as the default audio application" so to be able to use my favorite media players.
My question is: ¿What I have to do to avoid or prevent iTunes to auto configurate or autoselect as default media player or override my favorite media players, each time I open it or connect my iPod?
    Plese your help,
    Regards,
    Pabl

    Hello BPeery,
I would go through ALL the steps here:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
Let us know how it goes.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I set the screen zoom, so that it doesnt change each time I open Firefox. Because I see the webpages in smaller print, and I want them larger , without having to re zoom each time I open Firefox.

I need to know how to set the zoom option under "View" Tab, shere I dont have to re zoom each time I open Firefox. I have a wide screen monitor and generally, when viewing webpages, the web content on any page is confined to center of the page, and I was wondering if there was anyway to permanently set the zoom preferences without having to change them each time i open a webpage.
IE 8 and 9 has a feature to set the magnification and i set mine to 150% which works perfectly for me. I wonder if Firefox has a similar feature.

Thanks a lot. I downloaded the Default FullZoom Level add-on. My problem is now a history. thanks a million

  • I get a message asking me if I want to change my default search engine to Yahoo! Search each time I open Firefox. How do I disable this annoying message?

For the past few days, each time I open Firefox on my home computer, a popup message is briefly displayed: "Your browser's default search engine is not set to Yahoo! Search. Would you like to set it now? (Yes/No)". After perhaps 15 seconds at most, the popup disappears and my home page appears as normal. I have the Yahoo! Toolbar installed, and Yahoo! Search is the search engine there; however, the search box on the address bar (which allows me to select from several search engines) is normally set to Google. The search engine in the address bar hasn't actually been changed to Yahoo! Search without my consent yet -- I'm just annoyed at getting nagged to change search engines every time I open Firefox. How do I get the "nag" messages to shut up & leave me alone?
I would also note that this is only happening on my home computer (which runs Windows 7), not on my work computer (which runs Windows XP, and which I also normally use Firefox as my browser on, with the same Yahoo! Toolbar + Google search in the address bar setup).
I have run Threat Scans with Malwarebytes (paid version) and a Quick Scan with Avast! (free version), and neither has eliminated this "nag" message from Yahoo! Search.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
