My iPhoto keeps opening when I restart my computer

My iphoto keeps opening up when I restart my computer.  Is there anyway for me to turn this off?

Sure
Do you have any FAT strorage devices attached to it? Is so unmount them or in the iPhoto preferences set actipon when a camera is connected to do nothing
Do you have iPhpoto set to launch on start up? Is so right click on the iPhoto icon in the Dock and under options uncheck that option
Do you have iPhoto in your list of programs to launch at login  in the users and groups  system preferences? If so then remove it
Was iPhoto running when you shut down and do you have the option checked to restart all programs ? If so quit iPhoto before shutting down or uncheck that option

  • Prevent iPhoto from opening when iPhone is connected?

Does anyone know if there is a way to keep iPhoto from opening when my iPhone is connect BUT do the opposite when my digital still cam is connected? I like having iPhone auto-launch for my canon cam, but not when I connect the iPhone.

I believe I've come across an article by someone who set up a script to run when a camera is connected, and the script detects what kind of camera and then launches or not launches iPhoto as desired. Yeah, here it goes:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080301133957211
Seems overkill to me---I find it easy enough to manually launch iPhoto when I connect a camera, but hey, to each their own.

  • IPhoto keeps opening randomly

After I updated my Mac to Os X Lion, I noticed that iPhoto keeps opening randomly, by itself, for no reason. No, I am not plugging in a camera, or my iPod, or anything- it just opens by itself. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? It also says that new pictures that aren't in your library have been found, but then they aren't there. Can anyone help with this too?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try to launch Safari. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • How do I stop iPhoto from opening when i plug in my iPhone?

How do I stop Iphoto from opening when I plug in my Iphone?

Having the preference in iPhoto makes perfect sense to me.  After all, iPhoto is the application that opens.  You would expect that is where you should provide some guidance not to open.
What puzzles me much more is why you would post this comment more than 18 months after wjosten answered the original question.

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • Flash quits working when I restart my computer and I have to uninstall and reinstall every time

HELP! I've been working on this for 11 hours non-stop!
I have Windows 7 64bit. I'm using the newest Firefox browser. I install Flash and it seems to sort of work. It is in my Control Panel Uninstall programs with the Flash icon.
When I restart my computer and go to the Adobe site it shows that Flash isn't working. It's still in the Control Panel Uninstall programs BUT it has no icon. So I have to uninstall it and reinstall it to use it.
When I go to any Zynga.com games and right click on the game window the Flash window opens but when I click on Settings it freezes and I have too right click and left click a lot for it to go away. So I can't allow the site to use 100% of Flash to run on the site. Once in a while if I wait a few minutes Settings will open and I set it to 100% but when I go back and look at it later it says I am using 0%.
I have Norton 360 and have turned it off and uninstalled and reinstalled repeatedly only to have the same problem occur.
Before I installed Windows 7 and had Vista Ultimate it worked better but still not as good as it should have.
Also in my Firefox plugins Shockwave is there but no Flash plugin is ever there with Flash installed or uninstalled. Should Flash be there and where did Shockwave come from? Firefox?
Do I need Shockwave for Zynga or Facebook games? Or at all for that matter. I'll install it for no good reason as long as it doesn't screw something up.
After 11 hours of this Adobe HELL I am burnt! So ANY help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks to anyone who can help me. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When I restart my computer, preferences are reset?

When I restart my computer after updates/etc., my dock is reset to include default apps, while removing custom folders/apps or "forgetting" (shown as "?") the location of certain apps. This happens regardless of whether I accept or deny a keychain-looking request on boot, pre-login that asks for admin confirmation to "modify" settings or so. This is annoying because i have to drag all unwanted apps off of the dock. It also resets all the desktop size/grid/alignment settings.
My harddrive was replaced by a certified Apple Technician and is now a solid state drive. The computer finds the startup disk "f", which shows up under the harddrive in disk utility. OSX.8.1, 4GB RAM, these updates on a mid-2009 13" Macbook.
    Side note,
Microsoft Word also seems to be negatively affected by OSX.8. Autosave doesn't appear to work? It consistantIy tells me that autosave or autorecovery have failed. I have the latest MS Office and have google to try and solve--some files are suddenly "read only", and older .doc files cannot be opened. I have old reference data and passwords in some of these files! Losing them is not ok.

I tried the disk verify/repair, but the same problems persist. Also ran all available udpates.
The warning dialogue/password prompt at boot asks to "modify network configuration". It seems unnecessary for it to always come up? Probably not related to the desktop/dock issues but confusing too.

  • Stickies in dashboard revert to yellow when I restart my computer.

When I select a different color for the stickies on the dashboard, the color changes.  When I restart my computer, however, all of the stickies have reverted to the original yellow color, but when I check in the i the color I selected prior to the restart is still checked.  Any fixes for this?

No, you don't have a virus or other malware. Even though you don't say, I'm sure you are running Lion or Mountain Lion. This feature is known as resume. If you close all documents before quitting Numbers or Pages, you won't have them reopening when you launch the app again. If you don't want to have to close everything first try Mountain Tweaks. The option to turn off resume is at the bottom of the left-hand column under Lion. You can quickly close all open windows in an application by typing ⌘ ⌥ W (Command + Option + W) or hold down the Option/alt key while clicking the red close button. In Mountain Lion you can check a box in System Preferences > General to close all documents when quitting an application.

  • Sometimes my maps and documents on my desktop are rearranged when I restart my computer

Sometimes my maps on my desktop are rearranged on the desktop when I restart the computer. Is there A way to go back to the original display and sort order?

That is a feature. Desktop folder acts as a holder folder.
When trouble shooting we move files to Desktop to keep the contents of the file as it is.

  • Why does a Finder window open when I start my computer?

It's been doing this for a while, and I find it highly annoying. If I want a Finder window, I'll open one. I believe it began with Lion. I have looked in the Finder preferences and system preferences to try to disable this, but I see no option to do it. How can I make this unwanted behavior stop?

Be sure that you have closed any Finder window before shutting down. Any windows left open will re-open when you restart.
Also check in your Login Items in Users & Groups Preferences.
In which directory does the Finder window open?
Lastly, check your system logs for an explanation. They should show why it is opening. Usually it is some other program that starts on boot and requires the Finder to open.

  • IPhoto starts automatically when i start my computer!

iPhoto starts automatically when i start my computer, how do i turn this off?! I have a lot of photos on the program so it takes a while to load and bogs down my startup.

Right-click on the iPhoto icon in the dock, and deselect "Open at Login".
Also a handy trick if there ARE programs you want started when you login

  • Application "Pages" opens with every restart of computer?

Recently downloaded Lion from the App Store.  Now "Pages" opens with every restart of computer?

    Could be two things
    1. Look in you system prefs and look for login items for your user.   If pages is there, remove it......or
    2.   Lion now thinks that if you "quit" apps or restart without first closing documents, then it will restart and re- open apps and documents you had open when you restarted.    So make sure you close the documents, and then quit the app.   I don't like this much......I hear some programs have some settings for this, but I'd like yo turn it off globally......
