My iPhoto keeps trying to import photos and can't use it
Having a block with iphoto, wont stop importing and cant use, what happening
I have no idea what your issue actually is here, but I'll take a guess: Have you tried force quitting the app?
Make a back up first of course.

We are using iPhoto '09 trying to import photos from a memory card. We stopped the import and ejected the card over 20 hours ago, but iPhoto says its still importing. Any idea how long the import should run if there were 5000 photos on the card?
Don't know how long it would take to import that many photos but if you stopped import and ejected the card ther is something else wrong here.
I would Force Quit iPhoto. Then Restart your mac. Then restart iphoto to see if any or all of your photos were imported. If they ae you're good to go. If they were not imported I would try importing fewer photos at a time and see what happens. -
I tried to import photos and then canceled it during. Now i can't see where it's importing and it wont let me exit iPhoto. How do i locate or cancel import and exit? I haven't been able to update anything on my computer because of this.

trying to import photos and copy as DNG. Nothing will upload though. Permissions are all accurate, saving to the right profile, etc. Nothing has changed on my computer but it will not let me import new pictures. Also, updated the software and some images say "preview cannot be seen" and some don't. And when I try to import and I hit "new photos" it's all the photos on my card. My brain is about to explode.
It said something similar where the thumbnails were supposed to be.
Just got the newest edition of LR, 4.4
4.4 is not the newest edition of LR
We don't want to know that it said "something similar", we want to know the exact wording. In fact, you ought to state the exact problem you are having, in detail, instead of saying you are having the same problem. -
IPhoto crashes trying to import photo's
My iPhoto keeps crashing/freezing as I try to import photos.
It begins to import 30+ photos then freezes and requires a force quit.
From other threads I have looked for plug-in s which might be causing it but none of the listed one show up
I have also opened a new library and the same thing happens
My OS is OS X V10.8.5
The error I get is below.
Any suggestions?

iPhoto '11 randomly crashes after importing/editing/organizing photos and videos. When it does, photos and videos that I've been working on are gone. Pictures taken with iOS devices can be retrieved if they are still in Photo Stream, but videos are gone. Is there anyway I can retrieve photos and pictures that are not saved before iPhoto crashes? Also, is there anyway to prevent it from crashing? It seems iPhoto '11 is doing this since the day 1 I started using it. Thank you.
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library
this should help with the crashes - it may or may not help with the missing videos

My Aperture Keeps Crashing on Importing Photos and when Using Nik software HDR Pro
My Aperture has been Crashing everytime I import any Photos from Camera and when Using Nikk Software HDR Effects Pro...Sort This Out Please!
The exact steps I am taking are:
1. Start Aperture...wait till it loads and then connect USB to Nikon D300... Go to import...name project or image info.
2. Click Import all Selected and then Aperture comes up with Crash notification.

IPhoto keeps trying to import the same 42 files each time
I imported thousands of pictures from a formerly Windows based backup external hard drive. Everything went well except with 42 pictures. Every time I bring up iPhoto, it tells me that these 42 pictures were not imported and then it ask me if I wish to import them. I click yes and it attempts and then says it was unable to import them and has now placed in them a recovered folder in the pictures folder under finder. That would be okay except that it does it every time. I just removed 14 folders of the same files. If I click No it creates a recovered folder within the iPhoto album section, How do I stop this from happening? I just got off the phone with Apple Care and they were no help. All he told me to do was rebuild iPhoto database. We are talking about 15,000 pictures here that have been put in specific folders and certain albums. I do not want to go through that process again. Oh, I am doing this on a new iMac I just purchased. Any suggestions?
this is one of the very few times when the answer is to delete something form your iPhoto library
Quit iPhoto and right click (control click) on the iPhoto library and choose the show package contents option - look in the iPhoto library for a folder named import (or importing) and drag it to the desktop - do not move or change anything else - launch iPhoto and everything will be ok
Open the import(ing) folder on your desktop and if there are any photos you want import them into iPhoto - and then drag the import(ing) folder to the trash and empty it

My wife and i have two iphones and one mac mini, we basically want to share our photos and music but also have our individual settings, so I have set up two user accounts, i have managed to share itunes successfully however iphoto'11 will not seem to let us both use it without it needing 'repairing'? any help out there?
You'll need to put the Library on an external disk or Disk Image set to ignore owner ship and permissions.

My home wifi is working for all my other apple devices but my daughter's Ipod Touch won't connect. It recognises the network and attempts to join it as usual but it just keeps 'trying' without actually connecting. Have switched on and off, renewed lease, reset networks etc - basically everything I can think of but no luck. Any help much appreciated.
Try restarting your router, if you are still having problems try resetting your network settings. Go into your settings>reset then tap reset network settings.

How to import photos and videos from Android device?
Hello
I just bought Photoshop Elements 11 recently and I'm trying to import photos and videos from my phone, Samsung Galaxy SIII, but having a little trouble.
When I go to "Import from Camera or Card Reader" option and choose my phone from the "Get photos from" drop down menu in "Source" section the "Photo downloader" finds
every single photo and/or video stored on the device and it's memory card but I'm trying to import only photos and/or videos I've shot my self with the phone, witch is kept
in an folder named DCIM, but I simply can't figure out how to so my question is:
How do I import photos and/or videos from my Android device?Try clicking Advanced button (bottom left) in the downloader dialog. You should then be able to select and deselect thumbnails and import only the ones you give the checkmark.

I'm trying to import photos from my iphoto library, but keep getting a message saying I cant import from 7.1.5, that I need to upgrade to 7.1.5 or later. But I have version 8.1.2. I don't know what to do. I've been able to import in the past.
Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not
If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow. However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2: editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library. -
I get the message 'your startup disc us full' at random time points. I'm trying to import photos to iPhoto and get'iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library'. This is a new Macbook Pro and all my files were transferred from my old Macbook.
What size internal drive do you have and how much of it is used?
