My iPhoto pictures have disappeared

my iphoto pictures are gone vorm my computer and iphone

If you're ruinning Mavericks you will need to run one of the versions of iPhoto shown in this screenshot as compatible with Mavericks:
If your version is one of those shown as not compatible with Mavericks you'll have to upgrade iPhoto to 9.5.1 thru the App Store.  I might be free or not, dependiung on the version.

I used the Migration Assistant to move data from my Time Machine to my new Mac.   Most data seems to have been transferred successfully but none of my iPhoto pictures have been transferred.
My Time Machine now shows the earliest available Back-up to be after the Migration Date.   My iPhoto pictures seem to have either been lost in the migration process or are locked in my Time Machine prior to the earliest back-up date now accessible.
Any advice on recovering my old iPhoto pictures would be greatly appreciated.

First go to iPhoto Preferences, look in both General and Advanced tabs to make sure that things are set to import from camera into iPhoto.
Then if that doesn't help, connect the camera and open Image Capture in your Applications > Utilities folder and see if you can use Image Capture to reset the import path from the camera to iPhoto.

Yes, that's for network backups only.
What can I do to make sure that the backups are OK?
You can tell if the File System (the various directories, catalogs etc.) is ok by repairing your backup drive, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
You can "spot check" whether the Time Machine "Star Wars" display seems correct.
You can do a full system restore to another disk per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions, then start up from it and see if things are there and seem to work.
You can keep "secondary" backups (always a good idea).  See #27 in the FAQ post for some suggestions.

  • All my pictures have disappeared all that i see is gray screen with dashed boarders but picture titles are there

I am running on Lion and iphoto. My 13000 pictures seem to have disappeared except for a dashed boarder where each picture should be and the title of the photo. I use timemachine for backup but when I try to restore I get an error message saying I don't have privileges for iphoto. What should I do?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • WHY CAN'T I IMPORT PICTURES?  MY PREVIOUS PICTURES HAVE DISAPPEARED

I can't import pictures into lightroom.  All previous images (apart from some in an old file) have disappeared.  Do I need to reinstall lightroom.  Yesterday I had a
'reading cache' problem and lightroom wouldn't open at all.  The community advised me to remove a file (ending with LRData) which I did but now I don't seem to have
and photographs.  I'm just learning and this is very frustrating.

Removing the .lrdata file should not interfere with your picture files, that is where the preview files are stored. When you open Lightroom after removing this file Lightroom should realize it does not exist a recreate a new one. Your Lightroom sub-folder that contains the Catalog File and your Previews file should look like the screen capture below.
Try shutting down your computer and reboot, then start Lightroom.

  • I have a LaCie external hard disk. I do not know how to retrieve photos from iphoto that have disappeared. I do not know how to use Time Machine

I have a LaCie external hard drive. I also have Time Machine. I somehow have "lost" almost all my 5,000+ photos from iPhoto 8.1.2. I would appreciate someone giving me directions on how to retrieve the photos from the external hard drive or Time Machine.
The last thing that I did that is different from my normal routine was to trash duplicate music tunes from iTunes. I cannot figure out how that would have caused my photos to disappear.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
    Marilyn

I remember being cautioned to never do anything with the iPhoto Library. Should I have clicked on the iPhoto Library and then Restore?
I do not know "how" items are being placed in the LaCie external drive, just that it shows a backup running about every hour. I have taken a snapshot of the Time Machine Preferences I would you to see. Maybe that would answer this question.
In March 2011 I had to have hard drive on my iMac replaced. I had been using a Seagate external drive for backups. However I was not using Time Machine. When the Apple guru was helping me restore all my files etc on the new hard drive he was not familiar with Seagate and recommended I purchase this LaCie and use Time Machine. I never had any problem retrieving items from the Seagate backup. It was very straightforward. As I mentioned previously, I just don't have a clue with the LaCie and Time Machine.
I hope this is not TMI.

  • Recent pictures have disappeared after back up

I dragged my picture file to my LaCie external hard drive to back up all pictures. Then I dragged the contents of my picture file to the trash thinking I could open an empty iphoto and bring back all the photos. When I opened iphoto I got a warning saying that the Library would have to be rebuilt to be compatable with the new version of iphoto. Then I had a message telling me to change my read and write permissions. Finally iphoto opened again with only pictures from 2 years ago!
I haven't emptied the trash so all should be available. I have dragged everything back from the trash but my pictures don't reappear. Where are my pictures? Is there any chance of retrieving them?

    Caroline
I dragged my picture file to my LaCie external hard drive to back up all pictures.
Do you mean your iPhoto Library Folder? If so, that should work. IF not, then you need to explain more clearly what you did.
Then I dragged the contents of my picture file to the trash thinking I could open an empty iphoto and bring back all the photos.
What exactly are you trying to achieve? You copied your pics to the External? Then you trashed them to achieve what?
It seems that it your moving and copying that you have possibly corrupted the library database file. If so, you'll need to recreate and populate a new library.
First off: Look into the iPhoto Library Folders that you have - both on your HD and the External, and find the one that has the MOST RECENT photos in the Originals folder.
Drag that one to the desktop. Get rid of the others.
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Don't erase anything or empty the trash until you're sure that all is working correctly.

  • Need HELP...My iphoto's have disappeared...

Please can anyone help a really dumb person (ME) who was trying to print some photo's from iphoto and it would not work so I went to the info box and tried to get them to open in another users iphoto as their pics would print...Now I can't find my 2,000 pictures that were in my iphoto. It says iphoto needs library so when I do that a brand new iphoto opens with NOTHING in it. Can anyone please tell me they are still in my mac and that I just need someone intelligent to open them for me.....Thanks so Much....PS This is my first time on here and I hope I'm doing it right...?

    Bridget,
Is your iPhoto Library still in your Pictures folder?
If it is, do a "get info" on it again and make sure the permissions are set for you. Make sure box on bottom is checked.
After you have done that, open iPhoto with the Option key and choose to open another library. Navigate to your Pictures folder and choose the iPhoto Library that is there.
    iPhoto Library Info
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer and then choose it.

  • IPhoto movies have disappeared from iMovie 09

    Hello,
I have been using iLife '09 for several months now. Up until a week ago, videos from my camera that were in iPhoto have always appeared in iMovie under "iPhoto Videos". These have now disappeared... how could this have happened and how do I get them back? iMovie would always automatically search for movies in iPhoto and create thumbnails and it now tells me there are "No Matching Videos" when I select "iPhoto Videos".
The projects that I created with these videos remain in my project library and I can edit them.
    Any help is much appreciated...

Woohoo!!! What a great tip. I've searched high and low for a solution to this and found miles of posts that didn't disclose this simple fix. Per your tip, I turned the music off for all my iPhoto slideshows (I only have 4) and, like magic, this triggered iMovie to rebuild the clip thumbnails. Now my iMovie "iPhoto Videos" is populated with all my clips neatly organized by iPhoto event. Neat!

  • IPhoto pictures have red tint

I've just upgraded to iLife '06. When I try to import from iPhoto to iMovie some of the pictures take on a red tint, as if a red filter is applied. Initially I thought it was just the B&W photos but now I've noticed it with some color photos too. The pictures are fine in iPhoto. The only commonality I can see is that the pictures are scanned but not all scanned pictures do it. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I saw one post about clips taking on some interesting hues and the writer said the problem went away.
Incidentally, I cleaned my Caches file thinking there might be some remanent from iLife '05 but that didn't help.
    Thanks.

Thanks for replying Lennart, but the problem I'm having is with still photos being imported from iPhoto, not video clips. There are no transitions or titles involved. I was simply importing some photos and planned to go back to add transitions.
I thought about it while at work today and realized that the photos I was trying to add to the timeline were 1) all scanned, and 2) possibly bitmap format. So I started playing with it again when I got home. Sure enough, the bitmap photos import with a red filter look, jpegs do not. To verify this premise even more I duplicated a bitmap photo and then converted it to jpeg. Sure enough, the red filter appears when I import the bitmap image but not on the jpeg.
Why? Beats me. Maybe some of the more technical folk have an explanation. Thankfully I don't have that many bitmap images and I will simply convert those that are.
One more note, out of curiosity I decided to try importing a still RAW photo to an iMovie. The image shows beautifully in iMovie but in the timeline in shows as a black frame. I wouldn't ordinarily import a RAW image, I was just curious.

  • Imported iphoto's have disappeared

maybe a month and half ago i imported my girlfriends photos onto my mac (she has her own user name etc)
we have obiously deleted all the photos off from her phone and went into iphoto yesterday to get some photos and there is no photos
I have used the picasso app and searched for all the photos but nothing has came up just looking to see if anyone has any ideas as there was alot of photos which were pretty important to us
    Thanks in advance

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Importing into iPhoto, Pictures Have Red Tint

This has gotten progressively worse over time...
I have .NEF files that are created using a Nikon D90 camera in a folder.  In the past these images would import successfully into iPhoto.  By import, I do NOT create a second image inside the iPhoto library but simply have iPhoto create a link to the image in the folder.
Now all of the photos I have imported have a RED TINT to them.  Here's what I have found:
    1.  When the .NEF is imported into iPhoto it has a RED TINT
    2.  When I go to the folder, and press the space bar to preview the file, the photo has a RED TINT.
    3.  When I go into Photoshop, the photo shows up in it's proper color.
What seems the be the problem here?  This was not the case when I first began using iPhoto '11 with my .NEF files.  Any thoughts?

chat menu and people's pictures disappeared. Also pictures with their posting. On the chat menu there is one single green square left. When pointing to it, it will show the person's name who is on chat. The chat bar and chat window are working and showing the people currently on chat.
When I use a different browser everything works fine!

It is possible that you clicked "Block Images" in the right-click context menu while saving an image.
    See:

  • Iphoto albums have disappeared

Somehow I have lost several albums from iPhoto on my Macbook. But these albums are still showing up on my iPad although I can't import the photos because they were originally taken with a camera.
I therefore wondered if there was any way to copy the albums back from my iPad to my Macbook, as the sync option in iTunes seems only for copying from iPhoto to my iPad and not the other way around
Any assistance would be very much appreciated
    Many thanks in advance
    Bernard

If the photos are not visible in the library nor their thumbnails try this:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the  the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects. Check to see if the missing Events are there. If not then you can delete the new library and revert back to your current library which will be untouched or changed in the process.
I forgot to ask if you have a backup of the library from before this problem started?  If so bring it back and open with iPhoto and let iPhoto rebuild it to the latest version as required.
