My iPhoto videos won't import in iMovie?

I have my iPhoto library connected and everything and I open up iMovie, hoping that that popup will come up asking if I want to import iPhoto movies. It doesn't come up. But there iPhoto Videos event is on the column. I click the iPhoto Videos library and all it says is "Movies are being loaded. Currently 0% complete." Now I'm not sure if it just staying at 0 because I have lots of files or it's not going.
I also tried copying files from iPhoto onto my desktop then importing those manually into my iMovie but the files just imported out of order and Mobile Quality when all of my video files are HD quality. Help.

Please confirm that you are really running an outdated version of Tiger 10.4.9, and what version of iMovie and iPhoto?

  • Iphoto vidoes won't import into imovie

I'm having several issues in imovie.  My first problem is, is that when I click on the iPhoto video icon in iMovie, there are no clips in it.  Somehow, all of my clips are missing.  I can however find some of them in an unfinished project up at the top.  These show up in the projects area but not anywhere down in the clip/event area; not in the iPhoto video section or, after much searching, not in any month or year event either.
Next problem is, is that my newer iPhoto videos will not import from iPhoto to iMovie.  They used to automatically import as soon as I opened iMovie.  They are not importing automatically or by me trying to import them manually.  When I tried to import them myself, which I've done twice now, it looks as though they are actually importing, it takes several hours and then when it says it is complete, there are no new clips to be found.  Again, not in iPhoto video icon or in/under any year or month in the rest of the events.
My last problem is that when I was looking in an unfinished project which is basically made up of all iPhoto clips, several of the clips in the project have a yellow triangle on them saying that the clip is missing.  I can see it in the project line but when I click on it, that is when it says clip info is missing.
Any help is appreciated.  I hate to lose these clips!

I have the same problem suddenly.
all my iphoto movies do not show in Imovie 11
I deleted the com.apple.imove.plist file (restarted it and it did not create a new file interestingly enough)
I also rebuilt thumbnails and permissions in iphoto, nothing helped...

  • Why won't my video won't import into iMovie. There is a red ERROR message underneath clip.

I just imported 40 out of 43 clips of HD video from my JVC HD Everio camera into iMovie '11. It's my first time using either equipment for editing. I selected import all but only 40 of the clips successfully imported. 3 of the clips were not able to be imported but I can still play the clips fine from the import window. The clips all have red error messages underneath them. This is an issue that I've seen posted other places online but it doesn't seem to be resolved. It's very frustrating for me, I've been researching online to try to fix this for hours now. The closest I have come to a solution involved deleting extra 3rd party plugins from my quicktime folder however I don't have a folder named "Quicktime" in my Library. So I don't know what to do. Please help!

The error message appears under video clips already imported into iMovie. Like in this screenshot http://km.support.apple.com/resources/sites/APPLE/content/live/VIDEOS/0/VI57/en_ US/imovie-start-poster.jpg on my mac out of the 6 clips shown per row, only 5 of them have the word "imported" underneath them in white letters and then one of the clips has the word "error" underneath it.
I don't think it's a corrupted file because yeah I can play the three clips just fine. The page that I read that had that fix in it (deleted plugins) was here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1893021?start=0&tstart=0 The correct answer is near the bottom of the page and was posted by iphonejunky. Maybe the fix would be that simple but like I said, I can't find a folder named quicktime in my library. I don't know if I'm just stupid or what.
I don't think I have Flip4Mac installed because I never consciously installed it. I use VLC for playing most video. The clips imported are all .mov

  • My iPhoto 2 won't import videos from my camera, only photos.

Like the title says, my iPhoto 2 won't import any videos from my Cannon SD1000 digital camera, only photos. A friend says it's because I have an old version of iPhoto, which is true, but when I looked for updates it basically told me I need to purchase a new version of iLife. What can I do about getting a newer version of iPhoto, or making it so it imports videos? It's inconvient using the softwear that came with the camera only for a few videos. Thanks, I could use any help.

    JordanFox,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Your friend is correct; iPhoto 2 does not handle video files. You'll need at least iPhoto 5 to keep videos in your library. There is no other way to get it than to purchase a copy of iLife, either version 5 or version 6. Upgrades from one version to another cost money, updates within a version (ex; 6.0 to 6.0.6) are free downloads from Apple.
Try using Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to upload the video clips to your Mac. You can manage them yourself in your Movies folder.
    Regards.

  • Can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie

Hi, i can't select multiple video clips to import into iMovie, it only lets me import one video at a time. Apple please fix in next update or if anyone has a solution please post.

Obviously you can not select the video to import until after iMovie populates the list of videos that are available to be imported

  • Some photos in iphoto won't import to imovie

I have 196 photos in an iphoto album and only 37 are imported to imovie. When viewing the photo info it is apparent that the ones that won't import were created by scanning color slides. These have missing information such as origination date, digitization date and all camera and exposure information.
Does imovie prevent importation because of this type of information that is missing when the colr slides were scanned?

Try opening one of the problem jpeg files in Preview, then Save As a jpeg with a different name. For some reason, certain jpegs created in 3rd party applications are not always recognised as such by some Mac software. It could be to do with how some scanners save files. Some time ago I had an issue like this - re-saving the files in Preview fixed the problem. From memory, it related to an Epson photo stitching program (for doing panoramas) - the files were saved as jpegs, but wouldn't import to iPhoto. Saving again with Preview solved it.
It's worth a try! If one works, they all should work once re-saved (quite a few to work through though).

  • Most recently uploaded iphoto videos not showing up in imovie

when i try to use iphoto videos in my imovie project, the most recently uploaded videos do not show up.
this has happened to me before, and i got around the issue by importing the original video files (through finder) into imovie. the clips that weren't showing up eventually did show up, long after i needed them.
so, here i am again, trying to edit recently uploaded clips that aren't showing up. i tried closing iphoto and imovie, then opening them again. no luck. has anyone else had this probleml? why won't the most recently uploaded videos show up for days after they've been uploaded? i could import the files through finder, like i have in the past, but that takes up extra hard drive space, and takes way too long. i was under the impression that the ilife apps are supposed to just work with each other... intuitively and such
everything is up to date. here's my specs:
    MacBook Pro - 13-inch, mid 2010
    OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
    iPhoto '11 - version 9.4.2 (710.42)
    iMovie '11 - version 9.0.8 (1778)
the videos were recorded on an iphone 5

Usually any videos in iPhoto appear in iMovie '09 in the item "iPhoto Videos" at the top of the listing in the iMovie Events browser. Clicking on this item (heading) reveals the video thumbnails to the right of the Events listing. However, I've noticed that my old 3gp videos from an earlier mobile phone don't show up in the Events, whereas some other formats do (for example, avi).
MPEG Streamclip will convert 3gp files to a suitable format for import to iMovie. I'm not sure if it will handle 3g2. In MPEG Streamclip, navigate to your movie and open it, or simply drag it into the workspace. Now export it as a QuickTime movie (.mov) in the format AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) or H.264. The default settings for these formats should be OK. Both these formats work well with iMovie. I just tested a 3gp movie, exported from MPEG Streamclip as AIC - this worked perfectly with iMovie.
To import in iMovie go to File>Import - Movies, then navigate to your movie.
You can download the free MPEG Streamclip here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
PS After posting this, I realised that you can also export as AIC or H.264 from QuickTime 7.6.6 (although I do have the pro version - not sure if you need that). In QT go to File>Export and select Movie to QuickTime Movie then choose Options and select the format.

  • IDVD5 won't import specific iMovie into project. (Others work fine)

I'm utterly baffled. Over the course of a year I made six short iMovie films composed of a mixture of stills and video set to music. Each time I successfully used iDVD to burn DVDs for grandparents.
I'm now trying to create an omnibus edition with all six films in. I've successfully created a menu using one of the templates and can drag most of the films from finder to iDVD. But one of them just won't import. It still plays fine in iMovie, with no stray files or corruption that I can see. All settings (permissions etc) seem to be identical to the other five movies, but when I drag it across I don't get the green "+" sign indicating that I can drop it onto the menu.
I've eny tried re-importing it from a previously burned DVD using MactheRipper, converting it back to DV format using Streamclip and using that file in iMovie. Same result.
If anyone has any suggestion I'd be most grateful.
I'm using iDVD 5 and iMovie HD.

    Hi Bengt,
    Thanks for the questions.
    a. Plenty. I forget exactly how much, but I had run out once, which caused other problems, so bought an additional HD and moved everything onto that leaving my boot drive as lean as possible.
    b. Each is less than 10 minutes, so total duration well under an hour. In any case it's not when I go to add the last one that the problem occurs. And I tried a new iDVD project containing only the problematic movie and it wouldn't work even on its own.
Menu is a single opening with one link to each movie.
    c. Can't think that there's any odd formats involved, as all the movies were built up in the same way: photos from iPhoto, film clips imported from DV camera directly into iMovie. Sound track is made up of MP3s, butthen so have all the others AND I've successfully used this movie in iDVD in the past.

  • Apple store videos won't import into Video iPod

I spent about 19 hours over the last few days talking with mac support phone people, my own Mac repair guy, and the "geniuses" at the local Apple store, and no-one seems to know why I can't get the tv episode I downloaded from the Apple store website to go onto my new video iPod. The Apple store "genius" I first talked to noticed I had an iPod programmed to work in Windows, even though I have a G4, running 10.4.3, with the newest versions of iPhoto, Quicktime, and iTunes, and told the guy that info when I ordered the thing in October. The "genius" did a system restore, and loaded a couple of music videos, which I could view.
When I synced it up to my computer, I got the dialog box asking if I wanted to associate the iPod with my computer instead of the one at the store. I did, and I lost the ability to import videos. When I clicked on the iPod icon at the bottom of the iTunes page to see preferences, both video and photo buttons were missing. Calls up to the 2nd level of iTunes support and Desktop support failed to restore it, even after I did an archive install of Tiger. I finally installed Tiger on another internal drive (it had Panther), updated everything, and when I boot from that drive, I see the video and photo buttons in the iPod preferences. After making my other drive point to my iTunes library on the first hard-drive, I re-downloaded all of my music files to the iPod, but it still won't import the tv show (it also no longer allows me to import my podcasts). Apple support personnel recommended I exchange the iPod for another one, but the folks at the local Apple store wouldn't let me, even though I have a case number (#56524834, in case any Apple monitors want to help out). I've lost so much time and have become so frustrated (I could have watched the show on my Mac 19 times by now; it does play on the computer, so I know the file works) that I'm thinking of dumping my Apple stock. After all, if the customer service is this lousy for a guy who's always used Macs, I think the company is going to lose ground to other companies. Any ideas on how I can get the videos into my iPod (and regain the ability to import podcasts)? thanks, in advance!

But it was the actual MP4 file downloaded from Apple's own website, so I doubt that it was encoded incorrectly. I think it's faulty software, and I'm waiting for Apple to release a patch to fix it. But I don't expect they'll admit it. On the other hand, I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with the fact that my iPod was originally encoded to work on PCs.
I'm not an expert but my understanding is that the files are supposed to be independent of the HD here. If you were able to load any files to the iPod before this problem, then I don't see why HD format should be a problem in this one particular case.
As to the file being from Apple's own web site, I don't consider that a guarantee that mistakes won't be made. However, as a commercial ($$$) enterprise, I consider their product in a "professional" light and hold them to a higher standard than I would others. The file I previosuly mentioned was, strangely enough, a tutorial on podcasting. It is from a series dealing with Apple products (like Aperture) and techniques (like exporting an iPod compatible file from iMovie or batch procissing in QT using Automator) so I assumed the authors are either Apple Techs or Apple "Specialists." That is why I was surprised when one of the podcasts would not sync.
In any case, the conversion of media to iPod compatible format and podcasting is in what... a 60-75 day infancy. So I do expect there will be problems. Especially based on the mistakes I've made in performing any own conversions and initial podcasting test of a public domain (old 1936 Republic "Saturday" matinee movie) Ray "Crash" Corrigan serial. Software, techniques, and workflows simply aren't "perfected" at this point, so I tend to try and learn from the mistakes -- both my own and others.
On the other hand, however, it might be a god idea to post a list of "problem" podcast files to see if these problems are actually file related, download related, or unique to individual iPods. In any case, best of luck to you.

  • Problem viewing selected iPhoto video event full screen in iMovie.

How do I view selected iPhoto video full screen as an event in iMovie?  It always plays the last import instead.  I did follow the instructions, but that does not work.

    Adrian...
I'm having the same problem!!!!  Mine use to sort from new to old and it changed for some reason?
I spoke to apple care and they said it mimics the iphoto order... but it doesn't... I've tried everything, including reversing assending and decending in iphoto.
Like you said, it seems trivial... but it is a pain to scroll to the bottom for everything!
    Someone help us
    Thanks.

  • Movie clip won't import into iMovie.

    Hi
Ok at the risk of sounding like a complete dumbo...
I have a JVC Everio G 30Gb Hard disc camcorder. I can't get my clip to import into iMovie. All I get is the following message...
"The file could not be imported: The file “File Name Here” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048"
Can anybody help or know some way around this?
I sorta figured that like iPhoto, where you can pretty much download from any big brand digital camera, it would be the same with iMovie.

Hi iMovieNewbie - welcome to the forum!
Many people have your ailment!! The problem is that your camera records in MPEG2 format which is really not compatible with iMovie. iMovie's native format is DV, which is designed to be a no-loss, editable format. MPEG is really just a viewing format.
There are workarounds, but they involve converting MPEG into DV, for which you will need:
    MPEG StreamClip (free):
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
    and
    Apple MPEG2 PlayBack($20):

  • My camera roll photos and video won't upload to iMovie. Any suggestions?, My camera roll photos and video won't upload to iMovie. Any suggestions?

I haven't had a problem until I updated my iPad. Now my camera roll photos and videos won't show up in iMovie. I updated the App and shut down my iPad.  I would love some help.  Thanks.

Should work then. (Did for me).

  • Iphoto videos don't show in iMovie '11

I've upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard with a clean install and a full resture from a time machine backup.
Everything runs really smoothly and all files are back in there place. Except for a large amount of my iPhoto videos in imovie.
I've performed these steps to no avail:
Make sure your software is up to date by running Software Update.
Make sure iPhoto has been opened at least once, and that when iPhoto is opened, your albums and photos appear in the iPhoto window.
Make sure there is not an ampersand "&" in the path to the iPhoto library in the Finder. For example you may have moved your iPhoto library to a folder called "photos & movies" or a volume named "Mac & Cheese". If so, remove the ampersand from the volume or folder name orrelocate the iPhoto library to another folder or volume that does not have an ampersand in its name.
Try deleting the com.apple.iApps.plist file from the Preferences folder of your Home folder. Open iPhoto again to re-create this file.
Try recreating the XML file used to populate the photo listing (see steps below).
If you are using iPhoto 5 or later, check to see if you have any album names (especially smart albums) in your iPhoto source list which contains any special characters. Special characters are any character that's not a letter or a number such as an ampersand. Other characters include ^*$#(). If there are albums with special characters, remove these characters and see if this resolves the issue.
Open the iLife applications to see if you are able to browse the iPhoto library properly.
All these videos are shot with an iphone 4, and the only ones that do appear are part of an imovie project that I started while on Snow Leopard.
All suggestions are welcome as I am clueless to what may be the cause of this.
    Many thanks in advance!

I've just trashed com.apple.iMovieApp.plist and now iMovie is generating thumbnails for the iPhoto videos.
    I'm holding my breath...

  • IPhoto videos not showing up in iMovie

I researched this topic in a couple of previous discussions and don't seem to find a solution for my situation. I have iMovie 09 and iPhoto 11. I have lots of videos in iPhoto that I shot with iPhone 4 this year, but none of them are showing up in iMovie. iMovie says "updating iPhoto library" every once in a while when I open up iMovie, but no movies show up under iPhoto view. Anyone knows what the solution could be?

    Hi Folks,
Your iPhoto access in other programs such as iMovie depend on ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iApps.plist. Whenever you add new videos to iPhoto and close iPhoto, this file gets updated. If corrupted, pull the plist, open iPhoto and a new movie and then quit. See if iMovie picks it up.
As long as you have the latest dot release, I believe you should be fine in compatibility.
    Calbe
I had this problem and this fixed it. The problem started for me right after I upgraded iPhoto 9.4.1 to 9.4.2. I had to quit both apps, remove the plist file, launch iPhoto, then quit iPhoto, then launch iMovie... then iMovie asked about thumnails for videos and the iPhoto videos were back in iMovie.
