my iphoto will not launch, justs loads and freezes i cn nor get to my photos

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff: What version of iPhoto. What version of the Operating System. Details. What were you doing when the problem arose? Did it ever work properly? Step-by-step descriptions of how you got to this issue. If something doesn't work, are there error messages? What happens when you try to do this thing? And what steps have you tried already to solve the issue. With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that a helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.

  • IPhoto will not launch, since upgrade was downloaded

hello, Apple sent through an update to iPhoto this week and now my iPhoto will not launch. It opens asking if I want iPhoto to open when I connect my camera, then it quits.
I've deleted the preference for iPhoto and reinstalled the app twice now. I've also tried repairing permissions. None of these options has worked so far.
    any suggestions?

    macunuck and Dave,
If iPhoto opens under another user it means your users database files are giving iPhoto trouble and could be corrupt.
Here are the steps to create a new library.
How many images do you have in your library?
Do you mind losing albums, keywords, comments?
    If not...
    close iPhoto
-drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
-launch iPhoto and create a new library
-double click the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop to open it
-the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
-the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
-Drag these two folders to the desktop
-If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
-If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
-If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
-If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
-the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

My Itunes will not launch after downloading and I have tried all the troubleshooting for itunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Do I need to system reboot my computer than try to download it again?

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

  • IPhoto will not launch fully in Admin Account

iPhoto will not launch in my Admin account. I get the menu bar but nothing on the desktop. There are no error messages either. It works fine in other accounts.
Before I have to dump this admin account and start another and migrate all the docs/info, does anyone have a fix?
I'm using the latest version of iPhoto and OSX 10.5.1. Incidentally all was working fine for a couple of weeks after I'd but this new mac.
    Thanks

It could be that the Window is opening Offscreen - try using the Displays PreferencePane to change the screen resolution, which will force the Mac to Redraw the screen.
Also, if you're using Spaces, switch it off and see if it turns up.

  • Iphoto will not launch anymore

My Powerbook G4 was not shutting down automatically. After trying to troubleshoot the issue with Apple Support, the tech suggested reinstalling MAC OS X. After reinstalling the OS, the Powerbook started shutting down properly (although it's back to that state again after installing software updates). Im most concerned that iPHOTO will not launch anymore. When I open Finder, there are no pictures in the Photo Library. Only the folders that I saved to the desktop contain photos. I do see my entire library of photos when I go into the Desktop and ScreenSaver options. I've reinstalled the bundled software package from Disc 1 and 2 that came with the Powerbook. Any idea how to resolve this? By the way, iDVD and GarageBand will not launch either now. Please Help?

    Sandie,
It is likely that a separate user account was created and so your pictures are not in the user account you are using, which is why they do not show up in your account. Go to users and you will probably see several accounts, Your iPhoto pictures are probably in another account.

If the rebooting doesn't help try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem does persist when trying to create a new library try the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If you were able to create and use the new, test library the problem lies with your original library. In that case make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

my iPhoto will not work with Yosemite, and it says that it was purchased under a different account, but that's not the case.  Any ideas why I cannot update iPhoto?

How did you buy iPhoto? Did it come preinstalled on your computer with Lion or later, or did it come with Snowleopard on system installer disks?
    Which version of iPhoto?
If you have a version of iPhoto '11 and it is showing on the Purchased tab of the App Store, with your Apple ID, then delete iPhoto from the Applications folder  (don't empty the Trash) and download iPhoto again from the Purchased tab.
If that does not work, contact The App Store Support  from the Quick Links on the AppStore main page.
Only apple Support can fix problems with apple ID.

  • Foxfire 4.0 will not launch, just down new loaded, to MAC G4 and clicked on new Icon. Any Help.

Downloaded upgrade 4.0 into Mac Applications and dragged New Icon into Shortcuts. The a window popped up stating a new security update needs to be installed. Clicked install and it run ... connecting to server for several minutes, but never seemed to connect.
In the mean time I tried to open 4.0 from shortcut and was prompted with will not launch -10661? Why? And the update, is probably still running to connect to server on my other computer for all I know, and not connecting.
I also noticed that in the install window where you drag the product into the application box, right above the Icon to drag there was a confusing statement that said 1 of 2.
So after I dragged Icon once into applications and finished install I dragged the Icon a second time to see if there was a second part. But all that happened was an over write to the initial install. How can I get this new version to run?
Never had any sort of problem downloading and running on my Sony PC, by the way ... there both laptops.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Help..Iphoto will not launch!

My iphoto would not launch...its icon simply bounced on the bottom dial and nothing would happen. Trying to solve the problem, I deleted com.apple.iphoto.plist from the user>library>preferences. Now, I am not sure if I should have deleted this section, because the program does still not open. I really want to access my pictures, and cannot. I am not the most technically savvy, so any help would be really appreciated.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Log into another account on your Mac and see if iPhoto will open there. If not then a reinstall of iPhoto is needed. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Then install iPhoto from the disk that it came on.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.
