If you have a copy of it backed up, restore that. If not, back up your computer, upgrade it to Mavericks, and then get the current iPhoto version. If you don't have it backed up and don't want to upgrade, go to the Mac App Store main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

I figured it out. A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean. And it worked. I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked! And I lost nothing from my account.
Maybe this info will help others.

When I installed the Apple programs, mobile device application did not uninstall by itself. I had to go to c://program files/common files/apple/mobile device application (or something like that) and manually delete the contents and the folders. I have a 64 bit version so I also had to visit c://program files (x86)/common files/apple/mobile application device (or similar) and also manually delete the files and folders. I had to delete the files before I could delete the folders. This manual part is probably tripping everyone up, because it's not as easy as simply hitting uninstall in the control panel. But the instructions are there. I hope this helps you.

I downloaded CS5 yesterday, i uninstalled this and tried to reinstall again today but now it won't let me open 'install' as it says preview already downloaded this from the .dmg file yesterday.

I downloaded creative suite onto my imac yesterday and then tried to unisntall it today as i wasn't sure if i did it correctly. Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

The current version of OS X is 10.7.4 (you're at 10.7.3). The current version of iPhoto is 9.3 (you're at 9.1).
I recommend you do a Software Update.

The only workaround would be to purchase the current version of iLife apps from the App Store.
Lion doesn't support the old PowerPC architecture anymore, which is what iLife '06 was written for.
If the internal apps are universal, right-click on the mpkg and choose Show Contents. Then, dig through and run the specific installer package for each application.

I checked everything , cable, services, stop and start and automatice, etc.and went through all the steps on the apple support site, to include removing all apple software in the designated order and reinstalling it. iTunes still doesn't see the iphone.
The Apple iPhone shows up only under protable Devices in the Device Manager window and has a Yellow ! warning triangle, and there is no Apple USB controller in the devices menu.under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. When I look under the properties of the Apple iphone, it says in Device Status, to reinstall the drivers for this device (Code 18).
When I do this, I get the following: "Windows found driver softweare for you device but encountered an error when attempting to install it" Apple Mobile Device Driver One of the installers for th this device cannot perform the installation at this time. Because you are running lion.. FCS 6 is a Power PC app and Lion doesn't support Power PC anymore.. So you can't install it.. Three options..
1. Revert back to Snow Leopard.
2. Purchase FCP X...
if you can't stand FCP X
3. Call apple directly, 1800-MYAPPLE and ask to purachse FCS 3 for $999... (its FCP 7)
