My Ipod 160 GB

It has a red circle with a red x in the middle how do I get it off. I went to the support page. I even re-did iTunes even. Please Help

I'm having the same issue. Old ipod 160 gig worked for years; it crashed. I bought a new "used" ipod. It starts reading all my music and syncs a few songs then crashes. I get the same screen you do about duplicate, etc. Very frustrating. I'm downloaded the new iTunes (not impressed). I've tried unchecking most of my music to see if that would help but it didn't. Any suggestions? Thanks

That is precisely what my mid-2010 MacBoook Pro 13 was doing before the drive finally died after an Apple Genius rebooted it a dozen or so times. I have since read about the exact same thing happening to others, including a writer for The Atlantic magazine who had never had an issue with a Mac before. Do a back-up ASAP to make sure you don't lose anything and see about replacing the HDD. It is only about $140 for a new drive. The real issue is if you lose your data, too. So, make sure you do that back-up!

  • IPod 160 GB stopped working... now I'm sad.

I have an iPod 160 GB that after reset, only shows apple logo... when plugged into Mac, never appears in iTunes, and has old dos look with "do not disconnect" and blinking stop signal. Never does anything else... any ideas on how to get it to work again?
Was originally purchased over 3 years ago, but have made sure software up to date each time I sync.

Did you not have the iTunes library XML file on your external HD? Try reloading that, if you still have it. I believe this stores information of playlists and whatnot.
Otherwise, I guess you're stuck with looking at what songs you've had in your playlists on your iPod, if you didn't update it with the next iTunes, and dragging songs in.
Best of luck loosing iTunes information and preferences is painful.

  • My iPod 160 GB Classic won't sync at all

Alright, so I got this iPod at Christmas. It randomly started to erase my music, and then it wouldn't register on my computer whatsoever. I've gone to the Apple store itself, asking the manager for some help. They told me they were too "busy" to deal with me- and that I should just contact the Support Groups on line on iTunes. So here I am. Her only advice was to try erasing iTunes on my computer and reapplying it to my computer- and I just tried that, but it hasn't worked. Another thing my iTunes is saying is that there are two files on my computer for this device? The exact wording is- "The iPod "Laura's Ipo" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified." What does that even mean?! I'm really sick and tired of running into dead ends and nothing working for me- I loved this iPod before it crashed on me... Can someone please help? I don't know how much more of this I can take...

  • IPod 160 Gb Reboots upon Item Selection

Greetings. I have been unable to find this specific sort of rebooting problem mentioned in the forums, and am hoping someone will be able to provide some insight.
I had a 3.5-month old 160 Gb iPod Classic that functioned fine initially, but eventually developed the problem that whenever I made a selection (song, artist, playlist, etc.), the iPod would reboot. Very infrequently, upon selection the reboot did not occur, but then would occur later next time I selected something new, or just backed out of the menu. I believe, but am not certain, that this behavior did not begin until I updated to iTunes 9.1. Unfortunately, I also transferred my iTunes set-up to a new Windows 7 system about the same time.
After searching the forums and support, I did all the reasonable things: updated iTunes and iPod to the current version software, ran the diagnostics, restored, rebuilt my iTunes library, restored again, and ran a checkdisk program, all to no avail. I was convinced at that point I had a hardware failure. Yesterday, at my local Apple store, the tech quickly verified that there was a problem and gave me a new unit.
After charging and syncing to iTunes overnight, this morning I established that the new unit is doing the same thing. I observed three quick reboots, once each on selecting a playlist, an album, and a genre.
Unless I am just incredibly unlucky and got two identically bad units, I am wondering what else might be going on. I have this iPod almost fully loaded up: 149 Gb of music files, 33,000+ songs, 50+ playlists (some with >30,000 songs), 3100 CDs. Does anyone know if this might exceed some internal limit that could be resulting in reboots?
My firmware is 2.0.4 and I think my iTunes is 9.1 (whatever is current; I don't have access at the moment, but updated iTunes last weekend). Any advice or comments are welcome.

I had a 160 GB classic with the same problems. And I was syncing manually. Only about 60 GB of music.
But then, no matter what I selected, music, artist, playlist, composer, etc, the iPod would seem to work, then hang at the Apple logo.
I tried the extras, games, chose Klondike, and it hanged in loading. Never got to the Apple logo. Same with iQuiz.
I reset it several times (in between trying all variations) which just resulted in seeing the Apple logo again. I restored it several times. Same behavior.
I took it to the Apple store.
They replaced it with a brand new one. They said the drive had failed.
I synced the new iPod with my library. And the same thing has happened again. Anything I selected cause rebooting.
    iPod Classic 160 GB
    iTunes 9.1.1 (12)
    OS X 10.6.3 Build 10D573
This happened with 3 iPod 160 GB Classics. It happened with 2 different Macs. (I got a new computer in between the 2nd and 3rd iPod)
None of my other iPod nanos or 60GB iPodPhoto or iPhone have this problem. Same music.
I took it back to the Apple store.
They suggested it might be a problem with the computer since it happened so many times. Could my library be corrupted? I rebuilt it. But if so, how come there is no problem with the other iPods with the same music? Can my data cause a hardware problem? Could it be iTunes 9 that is the problem?
Could I be the only one this has happened to?
    Not according to this discussion.

I decided that since it would not work with my hardware, I returned it.

Bought a new computer, and new ipod 160 GB. I went to sync all my music and it's telling me that the computer isn't authorized. I authorize it, by going to store and authorize this computer, and it still won't let me sync these songs

Think you got to reboot or relaunch iTunes after the Authorization.
but here is the Apple support Article on Authorization and sync to iPod

  • IPod 160 GB Please Help! Any Ideas?

Hi, I have an iPod classic 160 gb, its about 5 or 6 years old and its just been sitting in a drawer for years because when I got this as my fourth replacement ipod, mine either melted (twice) or everytime they would send me a new one it would die on me after all i tried to do was sync the thing. I have a pc and the lastest version of itunes and all that jazz, ive dealt with tons of issues for years but this ipod is stumping me. it charges just fine and windows and itunes recognizes it, but when it comes to syncing its slows my whole computer down its almost impossible to do anything, i think it may have even come very close to corrupting both of my usb ports, it takes forever to sync and it never finishes, when it does stop the sync if comes up with 40 different error message, none of my songs are missing or corrupted, my pc is new and ive run a disk scan on it multiple times on my ipod and comes up saying nothing is wrong. i just can't bring myself to throw it away but i certainly dont want this thing to destroy the rest of my computer if it really is that bad.

  • Updating Track Info on iPod 160 When Manual Syncing

So I bought the 160 model this past weekend. Come to read there are so many issues with it but I'm gonna try to stick it out for an update.
Anyway, question regarding manual syncing. I have over 3000 tracks on iTunes that I am going thru, cataloging and changing their names. Digitizing all my vinyl. A lot easier to walk into a party and DJ with 2 folder size cd wallets instead of the usual 10 crates of records. Anyway, I want to know, if I am managing my music manually on my iPod, if I change the name of a track on iTunes, do I have to add it again to my ipod and delete the original version or will it recognize the change somehow and update the existing track?

if you have "manually manage my ipod" option checked, everytime you change anything to your tracks in itunes library, you have to drag and drop them back on your ipod, it will not update ipod cos you have it manually set ... it will also keep the original track on your ipod and create a new duplicate one .... what i do is go thru each track make all the changes i need and then clean my ipod totally then transfer back the tracks in library back on ipod.

  • Ipod 160 classic random pause

Ive read other people having a problem with their ipod 160classic randomly pausing for 2 secs then resuming play from where it left off. Ive also read this is probably an inherent design flaw with to small of a cache because it happens with larger files( i've only had it happen with my apple lossless files and wavs as opposed to my 256vbr mp3s). Is there any fix ive restored, my ipod defragged it, took off album art, and nothing helps. Nothings more annoying than having a random pause as your getting into the music then to have it continue where it left off. THe problem cannot be recreated its random if you rewind to where it occurred it wont repeat there but somewhere else. this happens 5 or more times per hour for me using the higher bit files.
I bought the 160 for the purpose of storing lossless files yet cant do it without this annoying problem is there a fix or a downgrade. Heck id be happy with no other features or color just to have it not pause while playing music. Ive also read that rockbox is not coming out for the classic and was hoping that might fix the problem. Any soulutions would be appreciated thanks for your time, -Shane

Hi Mitch, that is a really great point. I so rarely listen to the iPod undocked for extended periods, I decided to test it this morning.
I have been listening to it now, undocked for around 4 hours and have heard no pauses at all. Yesterday, it was pausing about every 10 minutes or so while playing in the dock. Maybe this is significant to determining the issue...
Thanks for asking the question, and leading me to a workaround..
It certainly means I can enjoy the iPod again, even if it's plugged into my HiFi using the headphone jack, and running on battery power. Still sounds great.
It would be nice if the device worked properly while docked, but I'm a lot happier now regardless.
    Cheers, Bill

  • IPOD 160 GB Crash

I have a 160 GB iPOD classic. It seems to have crashed. I am unable to reset my iPOD. On resetting, only the apple screen is displayed and then it says " Use iTunes to restore." On opening iTunes a dialogue box appears stating "detected iPOD in recovery mode."
On reformatting and restoring the iPOD with the firmware, iTunes still prompts me to restore the iPOD. Can anybody kindly guide me with this please?

    See if this helps.
iTunes has detected an iPod in "recovery mode".
