  • IPod Touch randomly pausing, starting, and fast forwarding?

I have a 16 GB 2nd gen iPod touch and about 6 months ago I purchased Beats by Dr. Dre for them. They worked perfectly until the headband snapped. I then switched to using the earbuds that came with the iPod. A few days ago I purchased another set of Beats by Dr. Dre. They worked fine while using them the first time, but the second time using them any song I would listen to would randomly pause, start, and fast forward. I switched back to the earbuds that came with thr iPod and the problem didn't occur. I'm not sure what the cause of this is so if anyone could help it'd be much appreciated.

    Hello,
I am having a similar problem with my 5th generation Nano (5 weeks old). It started about 1 1/2 weeks ago and paused in only 1 song. When I touched the right side of the screen, the song restarted and continued playing. It happened 2 more times on different days and in different songs. Tonight, it paused 7 times during 3 or 4 consecutive songs. I used the same procedure as above to restart each time. Tonite, after a few more songs played without pausing, I backed up to the first song that had paused and let the song sequence replay. No problems this time??? I have not noticed if there is any fast forwarding occurring, but some songs end abruptly before the end (a separate problem). I am thinking that there may be a glitch at a certain spot on the Nano hard drive causing songs to pause. Is that possible? When playing, my Nano sits on a desk top and nothing is touching it. Thanks in advance.

  • Ipod Touch-Random Pausing

I've had my iPod Touch 4th Gen for aaaages, and now it's starting to reeeeally annoy me. It keeps pausing randomly in the middle of a song, at first it happened once and I thought nothing of it, but now it will pause every 10 seconds or so. How do I fix it ??? D: I tried getting online support but apparently I can't because my warranty or something has run out.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod 160 classic random pause

Ive read other people having a problem with their ipod 160classic randomly pausing for 2 secs then resuming play from where it left off. Ive also read this is probably an inherent design flaw with to small of a cache because it happens with larger files( i've only had it happen with my apple lossless files and wavs as opposed to my 256vbr mp3s). Is there any fix ive restored, my ipod defragged it, took off album art, and nothing helps. Nothings more annoying than having a random pause as your getting into the music then to have it continue where it left off. THe problem cannot be recreated its random if you rewind to where it occurred it wont repeat there but somewhere else. this happens 5 or more times per hour for me using the higher bit files.
I bought the 160 for the purpose of storing lossless files yet cant do it without this annoying problem is there a fix or a downgrade. Heck id be happy with no other features or color just to have it not pause while playing music. Ive also read that rockbox is not coming out for the classic and was hoping that might fix the problem. Any soulutions would be appreciated thanks for your time, -Shane

Hi Mitch, that is a really great point. I so rarely listen to the iPod undocked for extended periods, I decided to test it this morning.
I have been listening to it now, undocked for around 4 hours and have heard no pauses at all. Yesterday, it was pausing about every 10 minutes or so while playing in the dock. Maybe this is significant to determining the issue...
Thanks for asking the question, and leading me to a workaround..
It certainly means I can enjoy the iPod again, even if it's plugged into my HiFi using the headphone jack, and running on battery power. Still sounds great.
It would be nice if the device worked properly while docked, but I'm a lot happier now regardless.
    Cheers, Bill

  • Why is the ipod insisting on pausing between tracks?

My ipod 30g is pausing between tracks and there is no apparent way of altering that. This is a serious unresolved problem with the ipod which I feel needs to be discussed until Apple either recalls it or resolves the issue.
I did a search for this topic and I found that the few discussions that existed did not get the airing they deserved before they were archived.
If I didn't know Apple better I would think this is a cover-up. I called tech support and after I assured them that the itunes cd preference was set to no pause they had no answer but to re-install the software which would involve erasing all my content. And you know I got the "I haven't heard of this problem yet.." cliche tech response to de-emphasize a gaping disfunction.
Yes I'm keeping my ipod but they should not have released it for market with this audio anomaly. And yes I will merge all my tracks in itunes because that pause can ruin and entire CD if there is continuous sound.
Does anyone know if Apple is at least considering rectifying this flaw?

The iPod has never supported gapless playback.
    You can suggest Apple add this feature here;
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
It's no big conspiracy - we're not alowed to speculate here about what features Apple may or may not add in the future, so there really isn't much to talk about.

  • Random pauses during songs.

I've had my nano since november 2005, about a month ago while I was listening to it my ipod suddenly paused for no reason(I dont recall jerking on the headphone wire or jack at all).
Ever since then the ipod keeps randomly pausing during songs, the odd thing is it doesn't only do it when I wiggle the headphone jack, it does it sometimes even when its sitting flat on my sofa without anything at all touching it and alot of slack in the headphone wire. Also the ipod does it even when the hold button is on as well so it isnt the play/pause button.
I tried sending it to apple but under the reasons for replacing the nano there was no option for damaged headphone jacks so I chose "damaged dock port" since it is very close to the headphone jack, and I also wrote in the description that the headphone jack is broken. Apple sent back the same nano saying they couldn't find any problem with it so I'm out of ideas.
Oh and yes I've tried resetting it and everything.

hmm another question, when i try to open another service request to send my ipod in again, it says it cant because my ipod already has a service request open, even though ive already gotten my ipod back since last week when i sent it in...any idea how long it will take till i can send it in again?

  • Ipod nano randomly turns on, pauses music & won't stay off

I got an iPod Nano 6th(?) Gen in August. It didn't get used for another month - loaded it with tunes in September. After about a month of intermittent use, it started to randomly pause music without touching it in any way. I also noticed that, even though the iPod wasn't being used daily, it rarely had enough charge to play for more than an hour. After paying close attention one day after turning it off, it just jumped back on without my touching it.  Disturbing to say the least - brand new gift, hardly used and not working right after only a couple months.
It was suggested by online and telephone support that the iPod be reset by holding down the keys; then reset, wiped clean and reloaded in iTunes (phone support).  Neither of these fixes worked.  Very upsetting.
In November I filled out a service request and sent my Nano back via UPS.  I am beyond livid at this point as #1 - their tracking page tells you nothing #2 - I almost didn't get my iPod back as they never notified me it was shipped via FedEx requiring someone to be home to sign for it(!) and #3 - my device was denied repair/replacement because they're saying that the LCI (liquid contact indicator) was pink, indicating that my iPod had been submerged in liquid causing the internal damage.  I was told that I had to bring it to an authorized Apple place and they could replace it for me for $65 which is about half of what my husband paid for the thing.
Um, unless this spill or submersion happened right before they sealed it in the box it never got wet.  I think this touch-Nano is defective from the posts seen here and Apple is looking for a way to not replace/repair at their cost.  Maybe their LCI is hypersensitive?? I might have breathed on it or maybe it couldn't take the humidity in August when it was given to me... If a device is to be sold for use by the average, active person (it has a pedometer for Criminy's sake) maybe it shoudn't be so sensitive to "wetness".

Call Apple Customer Relations-1800-767-2775.  Explain to them exactly what you stated in your post.
     Good luck!

  • IPod Screen Randomly Blacks Out, Pauses/Resumes Music

    The short of it:
My iPod (80 GB, 5th generation) randomly pauses and resumes playing music; screen also randomly goes completely black (not dimmed, but black) though iPod still appears fully operational (can still hear the digital "clicking/turning" sound of the wheel if I scroll).
    The details:
A few weeks ago I did something I very frequently do - plugged in my iPod to my PC, synced it up via iTunes, and ejected it from iTunes. Only thing the least bit different was that this was the first time for me to hook my iPod up to iTunes since adding an iPhone to my collection and having synced that iPhone up via iTunes. Not sure that would matter, but just some additional info.
I then proceeded on a several week long vacation. I pulled out my iPod, hooked it up via the AUX jack in my car to the car's audio system, and immediately noticed problems. Songs would just randomly pause and then resume play. I confirmed this wasn't an issue with the earphone jack (since I know the iPod was designed to pause music when the earphones come unplugged). I looked at the device itself and began noticing that the screen was randomly blacking out though the iPod was clearly still "working" - this was happening whether I was invoking the wheel on the iPod or just holding the device.
Since I was on vacation, with hope of easily getting this resolved, I stopped by an Apple store. A tech there did a Restore of the device via iTunes through their Mac setups, and that made no difference. The Apple tech said my hard drive had gone bad, though I'm not sure I completely believe that. (I've heard stories before of people being given that diagnosis when really that wasn't the case.) I'm willing to replace the hard drive myself, but I don't want to go through all that just to find out that's not really the problem.
I got home, hooked the iPod back up to my PC via iTunes. iTunes immediately recognized that the iPod was previous formatted by a Mac and so proceeded with doing a format/restore for the PC. Still, problems persist with iPod.
I've run the automatic diagnostics on it (M25 Diagnostic 0.7) and it completed with no errors, green screen.
I didn't drop it, damage it, nothing. It's in practically new condition. Apple tech said that something people with the iPods that operate on hard drive storage (as opposed to memory storage) more frequently experience are problems with the hard drive because they wear the iPod when they exercise, and those hard drives don't take the rigorous running movement well at all. Not the case with me. Most "exercise" my iPod's gotten is a leisurely walk. Its usage (in order of frequency): flat beside me as I listen to music; hooked up via the AUX jack to my car's audio system as it sits in a cup holder; hooked into an external speaker via USB out.
Any help you all can offer to confirm the problem or resolve it would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to fix it on my own (assuming repairs are not cost prohibitive), but just want to be sure I'm not wasting money buying the wrong parts or trying to fix something that simply can't be fixed.
    Thanks gurus!!!

    Someone? Anyone? Help, please...

  • IPod randomly pauses

Just got a 30gb iPod video about a week ago, and it's started just randomly pausing while playing songs. Any ideas? And no, I'm not accidently pressing pause!

I got the same thing on a road trip this weekend. It mostly happened just after starting a song and it would often pause twice. I got that look from my wife like "You paid $400 for this?".

  • Ipod nano keeps randomly pausing.

Ipod nano keeps pausing mid song and it's not the headphones... I've tried different sets of headphones & even held them in so they were flush. Still keeps happening. Been listening with no issue for about 2 hours before it started happrning all of a sudden. sometimes it will play 10 second sometimes it will [lay a few minuts but it always eventually pauses itself. Any ideas?

I just received my brand new 7th Gen iPod Nano today, ordered directly from the Apple website, and I am experiencing the exact same issue. I have tried several diffent pairs of headphones and regardless, the iPod randomly pauses. I also noticed that on occasion if I press play the iPod will indicate that it is playing music however no sound comes out of the headphones. It seems pretty clear to me the headphone jack is faulty... I suppose I'll need to get on the phone and deal with the highly inconvenient process of exchanging it. Very disappointed.

  • IPod 30gb video randomly pausing...anyone know why?

My 30gb video will randomly pause and will only unpause if I hit the play/pause button. Anyone have a suggestion?

When you unplug your headphones the iPod automatically pauses, so it could be a problem with your headphones or possibly a faulty headphone jack. Try a different pair of headphones.

  • Ipod Randomly Pausing Songs

    hi all,
Just before i went on holiday i bought the isound 2.1 sound dock system, and also updated my ipod touch to 1.1.5 update
Since then, my ipod randomly pauses songs, regardless of the screen being on / off, the lock feature being on / off, using the dock speakers, 3.5 jack speakers, or earphones
im really hoping its down to a firmware issue but i have no idea.
    Any suggestions?

The iPod will pause if you pull the earbud jack out - this is a feature. Unfortunately sometimes a set of earbuds will have a jack this is just a bit loose and this will fool the iPod into pausing. Try using a different pair of buds. If the problem continues with a different set of earbuds, give Apple a call.

  • Random pauses on ipod play and phone hangups

I have searched everyone but can't find info on this one. I listen to podcasts on my iPhone (using a 3rd party app - Downcast) and with the screen turned off, put the phone in my pocket so I can walk around doing things. Over the last week or so I've noticed that the act of putting it in my pocket, or just the way I move once it's in my pocket, activates the playback controls. The podcast pauses, or advances to the next one.  Then today I was on a phone call and every time I tried to put my phone in my pocket (again, having first hit the shut off button at the top to put the screen to sleep) I somehow hung up the call.  I have been using an iPhone for 6 years, and I always found that turning off the screen disabled the touch screen controls.  Has something changed?  I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2

    Hi joshuar,
Unfortunately it's a pretty well known problem with iPod Classics - mine does it too. As far as I know, it's down to a poor connection, meaning the iPod thinks the headphone jack has been unplugged even when it hasn't. Most annoyingly, this momentary disconnection can be caused by only the tiniest vibration, or, evidently, even no vibration at all.
If your iPod is out of warranty, and you don't mind running the risk of breaking it forever, you could try the disassembly steps outlines here: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/off-topic/162241-ipod-classic-auto-pause-removal-mod -not-faint.html - I can't vouch for the efficacy of this method, as I haven't tried it. Your only other alternatives are to take it into an Apple store and get them to fix it (obviously for a cost) or just leave it and live with it.
Sorry the prognosis couldn't be more cheery. Hope you get it sorted.

  • Randomly Pausing Audio Playback/Restoring Question

My iPhone 3G will on it's own, randomly pause audio playback (Pandora, iPod) when a 3.5 mm jack is plugged in, this takes any-wear from 10 secs to 30 mins, and this never happens when I use Apple OEM iPhone headphones. I went to an Apple store and the proposed resolution was to restore my iPhone as new. So my first question is: if I restore my iPhone as new, load music and a few apps on it and this does not fix the problem, can I restore my iPhone to the current state that has all my apps and data? My other question is, does anyone else have this problem?
    Thanks!
    -Mike

    I don't have this problem.
But your question about restoring your phone to it's current state, yes. When you plug your iPhone into iTunes, right click on the phone in the column on the left and select "backup phone". (That is if iTunes doesn't automatically start syncing/backing up.) After that you perform a restore which erases the phones and updates to the current version. At that point, iTunes should prompt you to install the backup.

  • Random pause with docking station

I regularly use my 3g 20bg iPod with my docking station and line out to a stereo receiver. I recently replaced my original docking station with a universal docking station and have started experiencing random pauses during playback. It starts after playing for about 30 minutes or so and usually occures 3 or 4 times. Then, it is fine for for as long as I use it. If I stop playing it for several minutes and then start again, I get the same pasuing again. I am using the latest version of the software(v2.3) and have reset it and restored it multiple times over the past few weeks.

Is there a reason you can't go back to the original docking station? The problem is obviously with your new universal docking station. You might want to try and return it as defective.
I'm not sure what you can do to troubleshoot the problem within the docking station.
