  • My iPod 4th gen isn't showing up in iTunes after I tried restoring it?

My iPod's been having some problems so I decided to restore it and start afresh. I plugged it into my laptop, restored via iTunes (as I have done so a few times before successfully), and it seemed to be going good. But then a message popped up saying "iPod could not restore. An unknown error occured"... My iPod is now stuck on the connect-to-iTunes screen, and is not recognised by iTunes when I plug it in. Also, my home button doesn't work, so I'm not able to get it into recovery mode

You said you received this err; ""iPod could not restore. An unknown error occured".". Wast that ther complet wording of the error message? Frequent an error number or other informaton is aso included inthe error message
You can also try placing the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and then ry restoring:

    Hi
I have an ipod touch 4th Gen that everything was working perfectly. After the last update of iOs 5, the battery have charge 20 minutes. After the correction of the iOS 5.0.1 the battery have the same 20 minutes. What I can do? Thanks

Same thing here. Try putting the brightness down all the way (its hard to see at first but you will get used to it) and one more thing is that close all you open apps. So to do that you have to click the home button twice (after you put your passcode in) and you will see some apps in the bottom. Hold it until there is a red - sign. click all of them so they go away. This does not delete your apps it just makes your ipod better.

    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod 4th gen unrecognized by Mac or PC, even after reset, restore, disk mod

I recently purchased an iPod 4th gen from eBay. When it arrived, it was working perfectly. It came with music pre-loaded, some of which I liked, so I tried several programs to extract the music. I ended up using iPodDisk.app, but in the process of transferring and deleting music I somehow mucked up the iPod, because iTunes demanded that I restore it.
Okay, fine. I restored it, only to discover that it required that I plug it into an AC adaptor to complete the restore! Fast-forward to today, when the adaptor arrived in the mail and I completed the restore. My iPod at first appeared to be back into prime condition.
Then I plugged it into my Mac, and nothing happened. The iPod did not recognize that it was plugged in, and neither iTunes nor PathFinder recognized it. (I tried opening Finder, and it didn't recognize the iPod, either.) I then hooked it up to my Windows desktop; no dice. So I tried a reset; no change. I tried forcing it into Disk Mode, and had to deal with the "Okay to Disconnect" message of death for a while before I could reset it again. Now the iPod seems to be working fine, with the exception of its inability to interface with any computer!
I'm thinking of ordering a new USB cable, as some of the casing on the iPod end has been stripped off, so perhaps the cable has been compromised. (Unfortunately I don't have another iPod to test it with.) Assuming the result is the same with another USB cable, what might the problem be, and how might I fix it?

I solved it myself by dropping the iPod repeatedly, from a height of about 2 feet. I just hit it hard against a flat surface whenever the hard drive starts giving me the Click of Death. As crazy as this sounds, it's kept the thing running!

  • I attempted to updated my Ipod (4th Gen) to iOS 6 today on my computer. When updating an error occurred, it then said i needed to restore it so i did. It then came up with another error. Now, everytime i turn my ipod on, it asks me to connect to iTunes

Today, i attempted to update my iPod (4th Gen) to iOS 6 on my computer. When it was updating it came up with an error, it then asked me to restore my iPod which i did. During this process it came up with another error. Now, everytime I turn on my iPod, it asks me to connect to iTunes. When i do this, it connects to the computer but doesnt show up in iTunes. How do i fix this?

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.

  • My ipod 4th gen can't be used because it needs 10.5, but I have itunes 10.7

I had downloaded itunes 11. I was sick and tired of it not syncing my songs, so I uninstalled it and downloaded 10.7. After a while, it finished installing, and everything seemed to go back to normal. However, when I plugged in my 4th gen iPod, it said it can't be used because it requires cersion 10.5 and higher. But I downloaded 10.7. I'm have Windows 7! HELP!

how did you remove iTunes? Did you uninstall only iTunes or all components? This is necessary.
    Check out this : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Use that article and try it again.
By the way, when you have an issue, the first thing to check is whether your software is up-to-date.

  • Have a ipod 4th gen can receive mail but can't send mail anybody have the same problem?

i have a 4th gen ipod touch, i can't send emails but i can receive them can anybody help fix this problem?

You have an error or omission in the entries for the outgoing server.  Somtimes it is easier to delete the account on the iPod and recreate it rather than trying to find the error.  If you give us you provider and type of account (POP3, IMAP, Exchange) we may be able to provide more detailed information.

  • IPod 1st Gen (Scroll wheel) not recognized by iTunes

  • Updated Ipod 4th Gen to IOS 6 but now Itunes tells me to restore Ipod and that data could be lost should i restore, it will not let me do anything until i restore

I have an Ipod 4th Generation just now updated to IOS 6 thru Itunes, says update complete but now it tells me to restore the Ipod and data would be lost. I can not do anything till I restore Ipod and I am worried about losing games, music and other apps. Do I restore Ipod and will I lose games and music?

Do you have a current backup of the content of your iPod? If not restoring will remove Apps and their data. The Apps can be replaced at no charge but the data will be lost.
What is the exact message that you are seeing?

  • WiFi cut out during update and iPod 4th gen is stuck on connect to iTunes screen

I was updating the iOS and I think the WiFi cut out and messed it up. This has happened before and supoort helped me fix it, but im not paying 20 dollars for them to help again...

Connect the iPod to your computer and restore via iTunes
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    Then restore from backup
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • My iPhone 4S isn't recognized by iTunes after most recent update to iTunes.

So after updating to the most recent version of iTunes, my iPhone 4s will not sync with iTunes.  Before the update, no problem whatsoever.  It is recognized by my IOS (Windows 7) and I can see it on my control panel but how do I get it to sync?
    Thanks!

The new iTunes *****! It wasnt able to backup my data too and after restoring I had to Restore with my a month old Backup(Contacts were intact in that). For your problem, Goto Edit>Preferences>Devices, click "Reset Sync Data", Close iTunes and reopen. This might work and if this doesn't than Restart Your PC and Hard reset your iPhone by Pressing Home and Sleep button together(This will just restart your iPhone and won't restore anything) than Sync, else a new update or magic will help you out(if you don't plan to restore your iPhone.

  • Can't access HD or Finder after new Software update!  Help

I ran the software update on my G5 & now it wont let me access my hard drive or finder. It will lt me run apps from my dock, but thats it. When it loads it only loads the top toolbar by the clock & thats it. The computer is a workstation & hasn't had access to the internet in 8 months.
    I'm running:
    G5 10.4.11
    Thanks in advance

Hi Blake, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, but it's best to start with these two steps, which may fix it also...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup. Safe Boot is a special way to start Mac OS X 10.2 or later when troubleshooting.

If you can't find your Install Disc, at least try from Safe Boot onward.
