My ipod 4th gen doesnot charge

my ipod 4th gen doesnot charge  it only shows red light for few seconds is it my ipod problem or usb charging point i have charged it to a ac adapter also but it was the same

If this shuffle is brand new, make sure the plug on the docking cable is completely inserted into shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3572
Otherwise, if the shuffle's power switch has been ON since the problem occurred, do this to Reset the shuffle
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
If you tried it on your computer's USB port and also a USB power adapter, you have probably ruled out a problem with the USB port not supplying enough power.  However, be sure to try it  on the computer, after shutting down (powering off) and restarting the computer, with other USB devices disconnected (except for standard keyboard/mouse if used).
Since you get at least the red light, the USB docking cable is probably OK.  And if you have ruled out the USB port and USB docking cable, the likely cause is the iPod itself.
When connected to the USB port on computer, does it still appear in iTunes?  If it does, you can try doing a Restore on the shuffle.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes.

  • IPod 4th gen charging problem?

Hey! So tonight I encountered a problem with my iPod 4th gen while charging. I had been using it messaging a friend and went to view it, then my ipod just turned off and died. It has fallen a few times and the home button broke off and I've been using the assitive touch thingy so people try not to tell me the hard restart thing.
It died and I plugged it into my iHome and it didnt turn on so I just put it on the cord, I had to go to the hospital and four hours later I come home and its still charging?! Oh one thing when it died since my home button broke away it revealed the metal underneath of it, well it was really hot so was the back of my ipod not the whole back just by the part you plug it in, I just thought it go to hot and died or something....
I have no idea what is wrong with it and since I don't know the serial number so I cannot go get online help D; any help would be much appreciated.

  • My iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, but when connected to my brand new ASUS Windows-8 laptop's USB 3.0 port the charging process just keeps "blinking" on both the iPod and the laptop and will not connect to Itunes...

Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing!                                                       I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos, since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I hope somebody knows a fix or solution! Thank You!

  • My daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck. help!

my daughters ipod 4th gen will no longer charge past 20% and will not connect to a pc in order to back everything up. the cable is working fine, otherwise it would not even charge to the 20%. i have tried the reset to not lose any data and no luck, home+power for 10-15 seconds. I really would like to not lose everything she has, again, because I can't back it up this time. I have tried charging via a wall outlet and PC and both charge fine, just only to 20%. I am using the cable that came with it so no aftermarket issues there. Please help so I don't have to reset everything again.

Because once it has charged enough to be powered on as soon as you turn it on it says battery is at 20% and will not charge anymore after that, it just runs for about 5-10 minutes before the battery dies again. The battery cycles discharge/recharge daily and its not on the charger at full charge for more than a couple hours and is never totally dead for more than a couple of hours.

  • IPod 4th gen thinks it is charging even if it's not

Hello, I have an iPod 4th gen, and it thinks it is being charged, all the time. It always displays "charging" icon and lights up its display all the time, and consequently gets drained quickly (when I really have to charge it). I have done all the basic steps, reset, reload firmware, restore. Still the same. What should I do, short of sending it back to Apple?

If the iPod is running a version of the iOS prior to 5.0, you need to update it from iTunes on a computer.

  • Ipod 4th gen affected by ios6

i have had my ipod 4th gen for 11 months and recently it had started to play up and so i went to the apple store who agreed and replaced it with a new one which i was unable to pick up until the day after the launch of the new iphone as they had run out of stock. when i went home with my new ipod and it installed the ios6 and i started having problems straight away, i could not access my game centre via my user name and login details, the app store was also giving me problems where it would log me out every time i would try and view a app that i was interested in. the ipod was also running extremely slow and so i went back to the store on monday this week 3 days after new launch. they agreed that there was a problem and replaced it with another new ipod 4th gen and so i went home again and found that i still could not access the game centre and the app store was shutting back to home screen every time. i then went back to the store againg on tuesday and the guy who i had my appointment with i started to go through this issue with the game centre and he said that it is probably needs to be restored to factory settings and i said that i had the issue with the app store and he said well the appointment is only for 10 minutes. i said that i have been in 4 times in 8 days and cannot afford to keep on coming in to the city every day and so he ended up helping by restoring back to factory settings which then allowed a app that was featured to download succesfully so he figured that the problems had been fixed. when i got home i discovered that the issue was still there and have also found that there is an issue with internet connection saying not connected when it is connected, unable to send imessages to previous contact and also the battery life has become extremely poor and has needed charging twice a day at least where as i was previously able to go through the whole day with only needing to charge overnight.
now i here that there are similar issues with the new iphone and ios6 and am wondering what i can do as this is so annoying and not good enough as i now only have a further 90 day warranty which could mean i could end up with a useless ipod which has been corrupt since the changeover from my 11 month old ipod

I solved it myself by dropping the iPod repeatedly, from a height of about 2 feet. I just hit it hard against a flat surface whenever the hard drive starts giving me the Click of Death. As crazy as this sounds, it's kept the thing running!

  • IPod 4th gen grayscale will not detect usb connection.

Hello everyone, I have a iPod 4th gen grayscale and I'm running Ubuntu, everything has worked well for about a year now, I have been syncing my iPod through VirtualBox with Windows XP for as long as I have been using Linux, though, for some reason, my iPod has stopped noticing my usb being connected, I know it's not the usb cable, or the usb ports, I have restarted my iPod and put it into disk mode, still no luck, restarted my computer, Linux will not detect anything plugged in, nor will Windows, though my iPod shows the battery charging when plugged in, but iTunes will not detect the iPod.
I have switched the hard drive of the iPod out seeing if that was the problem, still no luck, my car dock will pick up the iPod and play music, so will my other docks, I thought it might of been Linux at first, so I plugged it into my desktop with Vista, it also will not detect it.
Does anyone have an answer to this riddle?

A bad USB hub will cause the problem ... are you using it ??

  • IPod 4th Gen. Stuck on AC ADAPTER icon

So, I have a 20GB iPod 4th Gen and it was working fine. Haven't used it much over the last few years. However, all was operational. Recently pulled off old songs to transfer back to my Mac, everything was visible (hard drive and songs in iTunes) and it worked fine in the newest Bose SoundDock . . . battery was certainly weak by now I'm sure. Never had problems with it at all over the years . . .
Anyhow, went to restore it and upgrade the software and all seemed OK. Used the USB 2.0 cable to do that in iTunes. Looked good . . .
Went to go and plug it in with the original AC Adapter (which is only for FireWire) as instructed and got stuck with the AC Adapter icon and won't complete the operation (tried 2 FireWire cables). Tried resetting, no dice. AC icon appeared each time.
Now it has a battery charge Icon . . .
    I can't believe it's now seemingly bricked!
    So, I'm hoping it's 2 easy things:
    1.) Bad AC adapter
    2.) Bad battery
So annoyed, because I probably could have used it for years plugged into the SoundDock or USB adapter, had I left it alone.
    Any ideas?

Plugged into SoundDock, which must have charged it enough to now show the AC Adapter "plug-in" icon. Still no dice.
I know this is an old unit, but there has to be a logical solution. Any experience or solving advice appreciated.

  • IPod 4th gen's screen was glitching, now the screen is half white, but still works.

Hello everybody! I couldn't find the solution to my problem anywhere on Google so here I am and I really, really hope you guys can help me.
My iPod 4th gen has been acting up lately. Last night, the screen kept flickering and glitching. This happened the first week I got my iPod, but it stopped after a bit and it never happened again until now. I thought this glitching would stop after a bit, but this morning, I still found my iPod in the same state (if not, worse).
I think the problem is yesterday I plugged my iPod into my laptop and none of the USB ports could pick up my iPod so I plugged it into my ancient computer to see if there was something wrong with my cord, but my computer was able to pick up my iPod and so I left it there to charge. I also downloaded the latest version of iTunes onto that computer because the iTunes on that one was really old. After, I plugged it back into my laptop and it worked again. What I'm thinking is that maybe the computer did something faulty to my iPod and messed it up. I think that's what happened the first time also when my brother used my old iPod nano charger (had it for five years) to use it to charge my iTouch.
Anyways, my iPod now has a white screen in the middle and I can't see anything at the bottom, but the first half of the screen is still visible. Also, my iPod still works. I can click on apps, view photos, listen to music perfectly, it's just the screen is all messed up and everything is just super bright.
I've tried resetting it by holding onto the home and the on/off button but it doesn't do anything. I was hoping I wouldn't have to restore my iPod, but it looks like I have to maybe? Do you think I should let my battery completely drain and then plug into my laptop or something? Any suggestions besides dropping by the Apple store to check it?
    Thank you in advance.

I would restore the iPod. First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults.
If still have the problem then you have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod 4th gen not working???

basically i met my fave band and i took videos and stuff, then hours later my ipod 4th gen wouldnt switch on, i cant reset because my home button is jammed, what do i do? i really want the videos off i

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPod in recovery mode (which erase the iPod)
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
