My iPod battery won't hold it charge??

My iPod 4th generation won't hold it's charge it is only 15 months old

Just what battery life are you getting?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Likely that the battery is dead.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to confirm. Apple will replace the battery for this price:

  • I just purchased a new in factory sealed box ipod 5.5. I removed all from packaging and charged overnight. The battery won't hold a charge. How do I get a new battery under warranty for this NOS item?

I Just purchased a NOS ipod 5.5 brand new in factory sealed packaging from an apple dealer. I charged the unit overnight but the battery will not hold a charge. I read the Apple warranty and expect Apple to honor the warranty to the original end user purchaser (me). however I do not want to give up this iPod for a newer model because I love the sound from the Wolfson board. The newer iPods sound horrible and give me headaches. Does Apple still provide batteries for the 5.5 30 gb iPod? Or am I out of luck due to obsolescence? Thanks in advance!

I feel your angst, especially, knowing that Apple has become the most profitable company in the world, by selling us products that breaks down when the warranty run out, and crap service staff, who doesn't know anything about the iPod Classic, except offer to sell us refurbished iPod classic.
You can get the Battery replaced at 3rd Party store for less.
BTW, (most contributors might not agree with me) if  you recharged your iPod everyday, it will be dead just 2 months after the warranty expires. My logic, the iPod battery will last for about 400 recharge cycles according to Apple Specs listed below
    Charge Cycles
A properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles
So if your lifestyle is plugin in to car Audio dock, while driving, and plug in to home stereo while home, then it is 2-3 charge cycles per day.
But then you cant do anything about it, just switch to another media player.

  • Brand new ipod shuffles won't hold a charge

I've bought and returned 2 ipod 4th generation shuffles because they won't hold a charge for more than 1.5 hrs after I charged them overnight. Those were brand new ipods and I use them for the gym. Why aren't they holding a charge? Has anyone else had these problems? They are supposed to have a long battery charge.  I don't want to keep buying and returning ipod shuffles. My other ipod shuffles haven't lasted long either. The battery quality is very low. I might try a 3rd shot but I'm very frustrated.
Can anyone recommend another brand other than Apple?
    Thanks

When you are excercising with the Shuffle do you have it protected with a moisture resistant sleeve or case?  If not, there is a good possibility that moisture is making its way into the Shuffle and deteriotating its internal components including the battery.
You could test this out, by replacing the Shuffle a third time, charging it over night, and then seeing how long it lasts on a full charge without using it for exercise.

  • My iPod touch won't hold a charge since 1.1.3 update

After the 1.1.3 update, I purchased the iPhone apps for my iPod touch and also added 6 webpage addresses to my home screen. There is two pages on my homescreen. I also added two email accounts, one using yahoo, and one using msn, going through izymail. since the update, my iPod won't hold a charge at all. I haven't really used it yet, but once or twice during the day I check my mail, and other than that it is off. They battery constantly drains, If it is full, it will lose batter life in about a day, just sitting on my night stand turned off. No music or videos are left playing. Is something with the update or my iPod, can I fix it? Oh, I change it from an apple usb wall charger, and I got my iPod at christmas.
    Thanks

You say your turning it off does that mean you are holding in the sleep button and sliding the unit off or does it mean you are just locking the unit with the screen off?
If you have the Wifi enabled and only have the IPT in standby mode then this is why it's depleting the battery so quickly. Charge the unit till it's full with the little plug showing and then eject it and turn off wifi and leave the unit in standby overnight and see if the battery depletes at all.
I've noticed that Wifi really ***** the life out of the battery very quickly so give it a try and report back to us.

  • *new* 80GB, Battery won't hold a charge?

hey guys, i just got an 80gb and it won't hold a charge.
when it's plugged into my mac or the external charger it works fine but when i unplugged from either source it plays about 2 songs (showing full battery life) and then displays the low battery sign and then cuts off.
did i get a lemon? does it just need a new battery?
    please help if you can.

Not thinking there is a local handy apple store in iraq. Really thing I can suggest is you trying the five r's see here
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/. Not really much else at this point. Probably really is a service issue, but give the other a try. Maybe if you find somebody going back to the real world they can take it and have it serviced for you and send it back. Is there no way you can send it in using fpo/apo (not sure what they call it now adays) you can go online here and request service:http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or maybe send it back to a loved one they can exchange if for you and send it back. You can request service on line, use your home address and they will send the package to your home, then your family can send it into apple for you, or have them take it to 5th ave.
Sorry I can't be of more help and [b]thanks for what you are doing over there! Been there, done that, got the tshirt to prove it (viet nam 2nd rangers)

  • 80gb IPOD Video won't hold a charge.

Ok so I finally decided to get a 80gb for myself to use on a trip to amsterdam. I ordered it at the end of july, get it on the 30th. I decided on the 5th generation because of the battery life.
I have it for a week and notice that it is not holding a charge. Friday before last I charge it all day and then I wake up on sunday and it is 100% dead. I called tech support and they informed there was nothing wrong with my IPOD, I jsut wasn't charging it correctly.
Ok, fine. I charge it all day sunday from 2pm till 11pm. I wake up tuesday to go to work to find it dead again. I called tech support again and they informed me I needed it replaced. So I go to the closet apple store, an hour and half away, to exchange it for a new one. They can't exchange it because I had it engraved.
I spend the next hour and half on the way back talking to tech support again to get it fixed. They finally send me a box, last thursday I mail it off and I get a email today stating NOTHING is wrong with my IPOD and they are sending the original back.
I wanted this IPOD for the battery life, 20 hours for music, 6 hours for movies, yet I can barely keep my charged a day with it off. Let alone on. So any one here have any ideas or did I blow almost 400 bux on junk?

Hey, I understand fully what your talking about as ipod batteries as a well discussed topic nowadays.
First off, there should be no reason why your battery is acting up like that after only a week (shouldn't even be doing that after a month). Apple should be able to send you a new one.
I had this similar issue with my apple laptop battery and they sent me a brand new one because it wasn't holding a charge.
But aside from that here are some helpful battery tips you should know and apply. Let me know if you have charged you ipod in this manner when you first got it.
    1. when you first purchase an ipod you should let it charge for 4 hrs or until it says battery charged
    2. you should completely drain the battery the first 3-4 times of use to program the internal memory in the battery (many people do not do this and wonder why there battery acts up. This is so important because you are basically telling the battery what is an empty and full charge. The battery will never know if you starting charging it at 50% full for ex.)
once that's done for the first 3-4 times you can do as you want
    3. you should not leave your battery plugged in for more than 5hrs. I know some will say that the battery just stops charging after it's full but actually, it continues to give it unessesary power and thus limiting it's battery life. The memory and components inside tend to overheat also and that doesn't help the ipod either.
Once you follow these battery protocols you will notice that the battery life in consistent to what apple claims (given that you aren't always manually fast forwarding, shipping songs and selecting artists all the time as this causes the hard drive to spin every time. The 20hr battery life is measured if you just let the ipod play the whole library without touching it.
I hope that helps. Some helpful things people should know about charging batteries but don't because apple barely gives any information in there instruction booklets (trying to save paper or something i dunno)
    Cheers,

  • 3rd Gen iPod Battery will not hold a charge

After fully charging my ipod I turn the unit off and lock the unit, the next day I only have about 2/3 battery power left, 2nd day 1/3 and the 3rd day the battery is fully discharged. I just had the battery replaced hoping this would fix the problem but no help

  • My ipod shuffle won't hold a charge...why?

I have a 2nd gen (i think) ipod shuffle, and i've only used it a few times, but the battery can't seem to hold a charge. any solutions? waaaay past warranty/apple care, is it a lost cause?

It's likely that given the age of the device and the long gaps between use that the battery has lost it's ability to retain a charge and is now shot. You'll need to have the iPod's battery serviced or you can start saving for a new one.

  • 3rd Generation iPod Touch battery won't hold a charge.

My 3rd Generation iPod touch has been very reliable for the past few years, but recently I've been noticing a decrease in its battery life. The battery will now, on a full charge, last about 4 hours on continuous usage. Is this normal? I recall it lasting longer before.
    Thanks!

Very likely that the barger is wearing out. That happens with time/charge/discharge cycles. 4 hours is standar for an old iPod like yurs.

I love my little E2, and it's served me well over the past 3 years. Unfortunately it would seem my battery's life is at an end. Is it possible to change the battery in this unit? And if so, how do I go about getting a replacement? I'm in Toronto Canada, are there any service dealers in my area?
