My iPod bricked itself

I installed the 2.0 firmware for the iPod Touch, and it seemed to work fine. Then the next time I synced with iTunes all the apps would just like start up but it would only display the loading screens, not the acutal app. Like it was frozen, none of the buttons worked. Then the apps would crash. I tried re-syncing and it didn't fix it. So I went to do a reset via Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Settings and Content durring which my iPod died (like the battery) and when I started it up it went into connect to ipod screen. iTunes said it needed restored so I said yes... downloaded file... extracted... and it fails. Says "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (20)." and it will only display the name iPod in the info page in iTunes, no software version or size so I'm pretty sure that it messed itself up a bit to much when I did the erase. How do I fix this, and do you know why the apps started to break on me?

ok this is basically it
1. try restore again
2. restart + new USB port (unplug all usb other than mouse keyboard)
3. restore again
4. try another user account
5. remove /Applications/iTunes.app
6. remove /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
7. remove /Library/Receipts/AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
8. go to apple.com/itunes
9. download and reinstall itunes
10. restore
to put ipod into recovery mode (needed for all steps) turn it off (hold sleep/wake + home till it force kills) then hold the home button, plug in USB cable and continue to hold home button until the connnect to itunes screen appears.
Also this is the order to try things in. quit after it works, the last few are very drastic and while I doubble checked the paths I take no responsibility. (oh and you will pry need to go to Finder > Go > Go to folder and type in those paths with slashes).
hope this helps people who have this problem and the apple support guy was great.

please help me to fix this i jave all of my 6 thousand plus music with some videos back onto my ipod touch this happened to me this year well a week ago or two last year and also the years before to with or without any backups but i have my other software for that saved all of my stuff thank gosh but now nothings playing so i love itunes its the best but when it doesn't play or find my lots of songs makes me mad sometimes but anyways thanks for any or all the help you can to fix this problem

I have a gen 3 ipod and can't get it into disk mode. In itunes it does not have the option and I cant figure out how to do it on the ipod touch itself. Any ideas?

IPod turns itself off in dock

I have a new iPod classic 160gb. From time to time, the iPod turns itself off while playing, but only while in a speaker dock. This has happened in two different docks, including the Bose SoundDock and the Griffin Journi. Somewhere midway through a song, the music stops, the backlight comes on, it goes into charging mode. If I hit play, it continues as if nothing has happened.
I don't have a problem listening through headphones, anyone else see this?

Along with the frustrating, well known and widely shared iTunes freezing issues, my (second, first one returned)silver 160GB classic also experiences this 'shutoff' in my iHome dock. I haven't had this issue with my DLO Homedock deluxe, but when in my iHome speaker dock playback starts fine but then just shuts off midway through a song when it feels like it, then like was said, goes to the charging battery screen. So, this new iPod has made iTunes, old video docks and now even my iHome dock worthless. I've really begun to question the intellegence of this 'upgrade'.

When playing a song, are the controls at the top of the screen there? (Genius, Shuffle, Loop?)
If not, tap the center of the page once to expose them
now keep tapping the circle on the left part of the exposed controls untill a one (1) appears...

Have you tried plugging the iPod in with a different USB sync cable to verify the issue is not with the cable? It might not also hurt to connect it to another USB port as well.
Otherwise, try manually placing the iPod into Disk Mode and then connecting it to your PC.

Solution for Ipod disconnecting itself.

I've been stressing over my video ipod disconnecting itself from the usb port for awhile now. Just the other day i went out and got a new usb2.0 pci card, and it works like it should/used to.

A computer with iTunes is not required
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You need the iPod and iPad conencted to the interned and FindMyiPod turned on on the iPod an the iPad need to have the FindMyiPhone app installed. That now requires iOS 7 on the device.
You can also wipe by on a computer/s browser, going to icloud.com>FindMyiPhone

My iPod switches itself on while the Hold button is on. It always switches on to the same album - Damien Rice - O. This obviously reduces battery life. Have not worked out yet whether it switches itself offf at the end of the last song on the album.

Why did my iPod reset itself when I was trying to watch a video?

Hi Everyone,
I was watching a video on my ipod and I got halfway through the video and the Ipod reset itself. My iPod is okay after it reset itself. I was wondering has this happened to anyone else and what can I do to fix it?

I personally haven't experiened this specific thing myself, by I have certainly read issues like your quite a few times on the Discussions.
When your iPod resets itself in this kind of case, this happens usually because, while you're playing a video on your iPod, it's not being able to continuouly load and play that video fast enough to actually play the video at a normal speed.
This can be caused by the iPod's battery.
How charged/discharged was your iPod around the time when your iPod reset itself? Try letting your iPod's battery fully die, then let it recharge for a full 3 hours, and see if this ever happens again.
Also, if this ever happens again, have you tried resetting your iPod several times? (holding the "Menu" and middle buttons together for 10 seconds)
Sometimes your iPod resetting itself can also be caused by your iPod's memory being highly used. For example, if you have a 60 GB iPod, and you've used up 54 GB of it already, this can sometimes somehow bog up the iPod, causing it to act strangely.
If this iPod-resetting-itself behavior recurrs, and resetting the iPod several times doesn't help, try restoring your iPod to factory settings -> How to restore your iPod

IPod restores itself every time it is plugged in

One day I plugged my iPod classic on my friends MacBook Pro for a quick charge and it deleted everything! Without even asking the iPod restored itself. Now everytime I plugg it in, no matter what computer, it restores itself. And even after it does that, after I put my music in and unplugg it, it is empty again. Any ideas?

Try resetting the iPod using the two-button combo, then connect it.

If that allows the iPod to connect without locking up the computer, run iTunes and use Restore to erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software.
